It has been a summer of change for Bordeaux once again under Conor McDonald, amassing 31 signings throughout all of their squads, mainly in the youth teams.
Bordeaux have spent €191million this summer whilst selling €145million-worth of talent in a big revamp intended to push the club further into Ligue 1 title contention after falling seven points short of Paris Saint-Germain.

After Ricardo Moric handed in his transfer request, he moved for a €29,000,000 fee to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg after keeping 17 clean sheets last season.
French goalkeeper Stefan Bajic has joined as Moric’s replacement in a €6,000,000 transfer from fellow Ligue 1 team Angers after he helped his team to a 9th placed finish last season.
Former Cobh Ramblers goalkeeper Josef Perrin will remain as the back up to Bajic since joining in January.

Following the departures of two centre-backs in Krystian Bielik and Stanley Nsoki to Millwall and Brescia Calcio respectively, McDonald initially brought in three first-team transfers for the defence.
Bordeaux activated Matheus Chiatti’s €24,000,000 release clause at Athletico Paranaense and signed a five-year deal at Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux and takes the number 2 shirt.
Faycal Benahmed also returned to Bordeaux for his second season on loan from Liverpool after a very impressive debut campaign in Ligue 1.
Jordan Koenig’s loan move from Inter has now been thrown into doubt after youth academy product Scott Teggart rose through from the Under-19s and he looks set to be sent back to his parent club within the month.
Giancarlo Pesce also joined on a free transfer at the end of his contract with Italian Serie B side Parma.
With Teggart and Sauvage, Bordeaux now have two of their own academy graduates in the first-team.

Midfield was a big part of Bordeaux’s summer recruitment this season with seven new first-team signings in the center and on the wings.
Stéphane Pruvost finally made his return to Bordeaux permanent with a €12,000,000 move from Chelsea after two consecutively successful loan spells. With Pruvost coming through the academy, he adds to McDonald’s homegrown tally at the club.
Luis Pina’s release clause at Sochaux-Montbéliard was triggered after their relegation to Ligue 2. The central midfielder made 55 first-team appearances for his boyhood club before signing for €28,000,000.
Kingsley Shagari is the next player to join Bordeaux on a season loan spell. The attacking midfielder started his career with Toulouse before joining Manchester City for £3million last summer. He spent last season on loan at Spanish second tier outfit Alavés which turned out to be a successful period, increasing his valuation by City.
Left-winger Esteban Garofalo joined from River Plate this summer for €6,500,000 and does not add to Ligue 1’s tight restrictions on non-EU players registered due to his dual nationality with Italy.
Central midfielder Jacopo Mavrici was transfer listed by Chievo Verona for €2.8million and Bordeaux was ahead of the rest of the chasing pack to confirming his signature with a €7,000 per week contract until June 2031.
Marko Bubalo was the latest addition to McDonald’s ever-growing list of Serbian players at Bordeaux as the left-winger joined for €1,300,000 from SuperLiga side Cukaricki Stanckom after making 39 appearances last season. He signed one of the lowest wages in the league with €775 per week for the next three years.

Bordeaux were forced into fully reforming their front line after the outstanding season from both Juan Manuel González and Darren Wright last year. Wright was the Ligue 1 top scorer with 26 goals in 38 games.
Wright was sold to fellow Ligue 1 rivals Monaco following a transfer request in a deal costing just under €30,000,000. González was then sold to Sporting for €22,000,000 after complaints about a lack of starts.
As a replacement, Manchester City striker Abdelkader Cheraitia joins his teammate Shagari to take the number 9 shirt. Starting his career at Toulouse before joining City, he has been on four consecutive loan spells away from England since with his most recent spell at Sporting ending with 12 goals in 26 games.
Luigi Quarta saw out the remainder of his contract with his boyhood club Venezia after refusing to sign a new contract. A rush to sign the 21-year-old ensued in July but Bordeaux were ahead with a €16,000 per week pay packet until 2032.
With Léo Marguet the only attacker remaining from last season’s efforts, Brazilian striker Geraldo Szpilman finally broke the club’s record deal with a €33,500,000 deal taking him from Sao Paulo – his Brazilian home city – to France. Szpilman Has made 10 first-team appearances in his career and has scored 6 times in the Série A.
In the youth teams, McDonald spent big to improve the strike force with a combined €30million being spent on Juan José Romero and Josep Antoni González.

Scott: Indeed, the UCL is valuable but any trophy is much more valuable in my opinion. As for Wright, he was initially angered when I rejected Monaco's first approach so unfortunately he had to go for much less than I wanted.
