July/August 2021

31st July

The bookies have us as fourth favourites for promotion to the football league, promising.

What a way to start the season! A dominant 4-0 win sends us to the top of the National League table.

31st July

Brad Burton ruled out for 4 weeks - 2 months with a twisted ankle

Another 4-0 win, this time away at Aldershot with Aaron Ramsey bagging a hat-trick. He's like a lower league....Aaron Ramsey xD

4th August

Striker Johnny McMurray signs on a free transfer.

It wasn't quite as convincing as the first two games but two first-half goals meant we beat Solihull by two goals to one to take home all three points.

It took us a penalty but we finally managed to break the deadlock to beat Dover by a single goal to keep up our winning run. Happy with that result.

16th August

Adam Curry joins Plymouth for a fee of 20.5k.

Not our finest outing but the lads showed tremendous heart to bounce back from 1-3 down to get a draw.

I feared the worst when we went 2-0 down early on but once again we battled back well to claim a draw. This group of players just doesn't give up and it's so pleasing to see.

Another draw but given Notts County are top and were massive favourites, I'll happily take it.

September 2021

3rd September

Defender Ash Taylor signs on a free transfer.

A very good performance and back to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Guiseley.

7th September

Striker Mark Cullen signs on a free transfer.

Another fine 3-0 win and it was great to see Mark Cullen get a goal on his debut.

We were poor in the first half but after some words, we came out a lot better in the second and managed to record a pleasing 2-0 win to stay top of the National League table.

This hurts. We battered them and they scored with their only shot on target. I guess it's what we get for not taking our chances.

Wow. We were awful for 75 minutes then played like Brazil for the last 15. Bizarre but I'll happily take the three points.

October 2021

A superb comeback to win by three goals to one at Barnet. A pleasing result.

3rd October

Tom Clayton signs for Queen of the South for a fee of 29.5k. He started kicking off because he hadn't played in the first 6 games and handed in a transer request so it is what it is. Can't complain with a bit of profit.

4th October

Southport to host Nuneaton in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round.

5th October

Fantastic news as the board offer me a new deal which I've gladly accepted.

Get In! It was a rubbish game before Tom Heardman came off the bench to steal us all three points. We'll definitely play better and lose in the future. It was great to see young Charlie Bulmer score his first goal too, that kid has a bright future believe me.

Thank god. When Altricham pulled a goal back I thought we were in for a nervy last 15 minutes but a hat-trick from sub Tom Heardman saw us to a comfortable three points in the end.

11th October

Goalkeeper Jake Turner signs on a free transfer. With the money from the Tom Clayton deal, this signing was a no brainer. Turner is miles better than both our current goalkeepers.

We made hard work of that! I can't believe it took us until the 95th minute to score. At least we're through.

18th October

Southport to travel to Oldham in the FA Cup 1st Round.

Another win, this time against Dulwich Hamlet. The scoreline suggests the game was tight but it wasn't, we dominated including hitting the woodwork three times.

That was complete and utter *****. A totally unacceptable performance.

26th October

Jake Kenyon ruled out for 5-6 weeks with a twisted ankle.

29th October

Jack Bainbridge signs for York for a fee of 6.75k.

I don't know what to say. We dominated for 85 minutes then forgot how to defend for the last 5. Fuming.

A real shame that you couldn't make it a three-point gap had you not bottled that Boreham Wood game ;) Still sitting pretty though!

I think 'bottled' is putting it nicely.

November 2021

Get the **** in! After the shambles that was the last two games, I switched us to a 4231 for the Oldham game in the cup and it worked as we came away with an unexpected 2-1 win.

8th November

Southport to travel to Sunderland or Salford in the FA Cup 2nd Round.

A solid win really, that's all that needs to be said.

17th November

After completing my Continental A license, the board has allowed me to take a course to gain my Continental Pro License.

22nd November

Southport to travel to Altrincham in the FA Trophy Third Round.

A disappointing loss but we only have ourselves to blame after missing so many chances. Frustrating.

What an earth have I just witnessed? We destroyed League One Salford in their own back yard to book our place in round three. I still can't quite believe it.

29th November

Southport to host Premier League side Bournemouth in the FA Cup Third Round.

I don't understand us at the moment. How can we go from putting six past a League One side to not being able to beat bottom of the table. It boggles the mind.

December 2021

Good to get back to winning ways in the league, especially scoring 3.

This could be a huge result when it comes down to the end of the season. A really pleasing win against top of the league Bradford meaning we're only a point behind now.

I made a whole host of changes for our FA Trophy game as the league is my priority but I was pleasantly surprised to see us progress into the next round.

13th December

Southport to travel to Dag & Red in the FA Trophy 4th Round.

A really good dominant performance to win all three points. Happy days.

A 2-0 win, back to the top of the table, job done.

Another pleasing 2-0 win. We seem to be back to our old selves now.

A bit disappointing to concede two but the three points are the main thing.

January 2022

1st January

Johnny McMurray signs for Linfield for 16.25k. For a guy who hasn't played, I just couldn't turn this down.

Absolutely incredible from the lads. We've taken a Premier League side to a replay. That's just unbelievable.

I wouldn't say we were that good against Torquay but we were clinical and that got us the three points. Great to see.

5th January

Midfielder Ryan East joins on loan from Crewe.

I once again rotated the team for the FA Trophy but the lads managed to go through winning 3-2 after being 2-0 down. A superb effort.

10th January

Laurence Maguire joins Exeter for a fee of 17k.

Basiru Mbye joins Cheltenham for a fee of 7k.

Southport to host Braintree in the FA Trophy 5th Round.

Yes, we did actually take the lead at Bournemouth! Incredible. We then did proceed to get the pasting that was expected but the lads did themselves proud.

15th January

Full-back Ryan McLaughlin signs on a free transfer.

18th January

Lamin Jagne signs for York for a fee of 12k.

21st January

Midfielder Jacob Mellis joins on a free transfer.

A great performance and a comfortable 3-0 win. Very happy with that.

29th January

This is our third home game in a row that has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Worrying.

31st January

Finlay Armstrong joins Portsmouth for a fee of 15k. We've really done well this season with transfer profit.

Looking good. Momentum seems to be building and a great effort against Bournemouth to boot. Some pretty tidy signings lately too which will only help boost upon what is already, obviously, a good group of players.

We've certainly been lucky with the signings we've been able to make, the squad is looking strong.
