Pre-season and Transfers
In my eyes pre-season is mainly about getting the squad match fit for the upcoming season. So while I get the transfer deals done I let my assistant take control of the friendlies , here is how the friendlies went:
Athletico Madrid 5-2 Athletico 'B'
Shenua 1-1 Athletico Madrid
Empoli 0-7 Athletico Madrid
Rayo Majadahonda 0-3 Athletico Madrid
We only had 4 friendlies due to us having to qualify for the Europa League , this is how the qualification campaign for that went:
3rd qualification round 1st leg : Athletico Madrid 1-2 Valerenga
3rd qualification round 2nd leg: Valerenga 0-2 Athletico Madrid
4th qualification round 1st leg : Athletico Madrid 0-0 Hearts
4th qualification round 2nd leg : Hearts 0-0 Athletico Madrid - Athletico Madrid win 4-3 on pens
As you can see we got very lucky in both rounds when really we should of eased through , but a win is a win and we are through to the group stages.
Transfers In
As we only got a budget of 5.5 million to spend we couldn't do too much to change the team , I also had a look at the loan list and seen some very good deals.
ST/AML-Mario Balotelli from Manchester City - Loan
CM/DM-Seydou Keita from Barcelona - £2.6 million
ST-Danny Welbeck from Manchester United - Loan
RB-Kyle Walker from Tottenham - Loan
DM/MC/AMC-Kyle Holzhauser from Stuttgart - £2.6 million
I brought in Seydou Keita because I thought we lacked a top quality CM and he brings that aswell as experience and also Kyle Holzhauser is an 18 year old who my scouts say will be as good as Seydou Keita so I thought it would be a good investment. Also I think I may have got Kyle Walker on loan for 2 seasons but im not sure!
There were no transfers out of the club but I did try to get rid of RB Cesar but no clubs were interested.
Tactics
I have set up 2 tactis for this season ; one is a 4-2-3-1 with 2 CM's , An AMC and 2 wingers.
The other is an Attacking 4-4-2 with 2 CM's , 2 advanced wingers and 2 ST's.
I will be doing updates every match for this story with a short match report each time , thanks for reading
