Mexico - The Beginning
So I have been trying to implement the same type of
attacking football that we play at
Chelsea with the
National Mexican squad. It's not that easy to shuffle with these two assignments at once especially when I can't speak a word of mexican. Luckily a handful of the guys play or have played in England and are helping out with the language barrier and it's true what they say, football IS a universal language. My assistant manager,
Luis has been showing me around and is helping out too especially with the team talks, he along with the other coaches are all important in this Mexican setup. Alas I made it clear from day one that this is not a one man job and I am no
"Special One", they actually refer to me as
L'Anglo but they said that's what they call every Englishman.

What has surprised me is that everyone knows my story. I've only been in management for four, five years and most of the squad know what I've done at Chelsea and some of them were even rooting for us that night in Amsterdam when we pulled one over Barcelona & claimed that
Champions League trophy last year. Anyway, when I took over here with the national squad, they had just suffered a defeat in the
Copa America Final this year and they were 15th in the
World Rankings and have now dropped down to
16th for some reason. This isn't necessarily that bad I've been told, this ranking business is a bit crazy, again this is all new to me. My aim is to get the Mexican team up that ranking ladder as quick as I can and with the talent I have it looks possible. I have received another job offer from a country closer to home but decided to decline it and stick with these guys. My income isn't really an issue thanks to
Mr. Abramovich and
Turkey just haven't got the same class that this Mexico squad have. I have been to watch most of the guys with their clubs and had a good look through the squad and players available & it definitely looks like our main strength is up front in attack! I have pinpointed
Javier Hernandez as an excellent experienced forward as well as the youths
Erick Torres &
Carlos Fierro, who together should create a dangerous triangle upfront and to tell you the truth I am looking at deals for the latter two for a move to
London. They are good boys and
respect everything that I say, which is sometimes hard to find as I have learnt with some of my signings back home. So for now I'm concentrating on getting to know who can play where & also keeping an eye out for any new additions to the current group of players I already have looking on to our main target.
The World Cup 2018 in Russia.
