Viking announce friendly match against Aalborg

Earlier this morning Viking announced that they will play a friendly match against Danish Aalborg.

The match will be played on the 20th June, and will be a part of Aalborg's pre-season and will keep Viking in match-form.

Aalborg finished at 5th place in last season's Danish Superliga, and will be looking for an even better season this year.

Fredrikstad beat Vard Haugesund 1 - 0 yesterday, which means Viking will play against Fredrikstad in the 4th Round of the cup.

Transfer update

Fulham midfielder Kerim Frei has agreed to join Viking on a season long loan spell. Former Viking defender Brede Hangeland supports the transfer and wishes Frei good luck at his former club.

The transfer for Odd Grenland striker Torgeir Børven collapsed due to Viking not being able to pay the price for the Norwegian striker.

Norwegian striker Veton Berisha got promoted to the senior squad, and will be looking forward to playing with his older brother Valon Berisha.

The media prediction was 8th place, so I've played a lot better than the media thought. Before the season, they gave me 33-1 in winning the title :-)

June update

With two league matches and one cup match of importance, this was a very slow month. But now we are on top of the league!

Finally, The Battle of the West could take place. Both teams with hopes of winning. Both team's supporters with high expectations. Brann, the current league leader, versus Viking, who were coming from behind looking to close the gap of six points.

A high intensivly first half ended in Viking striker Erik Nevland being subbed off with an injury, to be replaced by Trond Olsen. This meant that Morten Nielsen, who started the match in a left winger position, was now the main striker. That payed off in the second half.

A well struck corner from substitute Trond Olsen met Nielsen's head and put Viking 1-0 ahead after 65 minutes. Nielsen doubled his money five minutes later after finishing a great attack.

Nielsen was named MotM after his two goals against bitter rivals Brann.

Viking could now say that they are "The Best in West".

Corners have been Viking's key to success, and once again a Viking goal came from a corner. And once again it was Danish striker Morten Nielsen who put the ball into the net.

Besides that, the match was really slow and not much to report.

Lars-Cristopher Vilsvik was named MotM after great defensive work on the right back position.

This cup tie was closer than anyone could have predicted. The match started for real when Henri Anier scored his 5th tournament goal after 12 minutes. Five minutes later, Johan Lædre Bjørdal makes a terrible challenge in the box and Alex Valencia is safe from the spot.

In the 69th minute, Alexander Ruud Tvedter shocks everyone to put Fredrikstad 2 - 1 ahead. Luckily for Viking, Morten Nielsen equalized just 8 minutes later.

Nothing interesting happened in extra-time, so it went down to a penalty shoot-out.

Steinnes recieves Manager of the Month award

Viking manager Henrik Steinnes was delighted today after recieving his Manager of the Month award for June. In an interview with the local newspaper he had this to say:

'I'm very honoured to be named Manager of the Month. This tells me that I'm on the right track with Viking. Being honest, this isn't my reward, but the players and the supporters reward. After all, it was them who made this possible.'

Henrik Steinnes's Viking are currently in first place in Tippeligaen and qualified for the quarter-finals in the Norwegian Cup

Can Brann get their revenge?

The quarter-finals was drawn today. Viking will face their bitter rivals Brann for an exciting cup clash in Stavanger. Their last meeting was in the beginning of June, a game Viking won 2 - 0 after two goals by Viking's Morten Nielsen.

The match will be played on the 19th August.

Berisha and Tveita extends their contracts

Viking could happily announce today that the two youngsters Veton Berisha and John Helge Tveita have extended their contracts. Berisha's contract now expires 31.12.16, and Tveita's contract expires 31.12.15.

Veton Berisha has played in six matches so far, and has scored three goals. John Helge Tveita hasn't played for the senior team yet.

Valon Berisha was sold to RB Salzburg recently, and Veton has scored 5 in 6 games which is pretty amazing for an 18 year old!

Erik Nevland has announced his retirement after this season :-( I even bought a Fulham-shirt with his name on the back when I was in London two years ago (eventhough I'm a Gooner)
