Garmash: I owe it all to Jamie
We today managed to get an exclusive interview with Liverpool and Ukraine midfielder
Denys Garmash. The 26-year-old has scored 6 goals in 6 appearances for the Merseyside club to propel them to the top of the league.
Stuart Kent: Hello Denys, how are you?
Denys Garmash: I'm, uh, good!
Stuart Kent: Brilliant, so let's get on with this interview then. Why have you suddenly improved so much? Is it something you are eating, or...?
Denys Garmash: Hahaha no no, I am not eating any energy bar or taking any drugs.
Stuart Kent: Of course!
Denys Garmash: It is actually all thanks to Jamie, Jamie Redknapp. He tweaked the formations a bit so now I can play in a changed role, and that's what led to me scoring so many goals.
Stuart Kent: Ah, yes, you play in a bit more of an attacking role now, am I right?
Denys Garmash: Yes, for Ukraine, Dynamo Kyiv, and Liverpool for the past two seasons, I always played in central midfield but I've seem to 'discovered' my 'true' position. I'm really enjoying it in attacking midfield and Jamie can tell I really excel in that position in training, so he's been putting me in that same exact position on the field and it's reaped rewards.
Stuart Kent: That's interesting! Are there any other factors?
Denys Garmash: Yeah, of course. The way he gives team talks is very inspiring and just makes me want to get out there and repay him for all he's done for me. He has admitted he thought of selling me once, back in my first few months in the Liverpool team where I could rarely get a game, and he said to me, 'it is better for you to play every week somewhere else than warm the bench here'. But he changed his mind in the end. He's put in a lot of faith in me.
Stuart Kent: Ah. So, we understand you recently got your 50th cap, Denys. How's it like, being an Ukrainian international and playing for Liverpool at the same time?
Denys Garmash: I just have to say, I'm a very very lucky person to be blessed with such footballing skills. Playing for Liverpool is such an honour and pleasure and playing for my own country is even more so. Reaching 50 caps is a milestone and my next aim is 100 caps. It is definitely an achievable target and one I would like to work towards. Hopefully I can keep playing for Liverpool and Ukraine.
