Alan Pardew has announced his resignation from the Newcastle FC post after winning the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Year award in the 2011/12 season. The resignation has come as a huge shock to Newcastle supporters and the club staff who said they were unaware of the possible departure of Pardew.

Alan Pardew decided to announce the news at a full press conference where he answered many questions about the reasoning of leaving. Pardew raced out of the press conference after giving this final briefing, "I know this decision may come as a shock to the public but I hope there are no hard feelings towards myself from the club and supporters especially. I discussed the possibility of resigning with my family and have not decided whether I will continue to pursue management or take a break for some time. I feel the year and a half I spent at Newcastle has been very successful and have provided the club with a firm ground to build upon. I wish them the best for the upcoming season and of course many seasons to come."

Newcastle will now look for another head manager with the season coming close to resuming. They have not spoken about who they are looking to hire but owner Mike Ashley said to media "We will be looking at all possible options from here and know of many managers who have already expressed interest in the post and a decision will be made in the near future. Thank you"

Newcastle United board have announced the signing of a relatively unknown Australian/Portuguese manager, Josh Vella. Josh was introduced to journalists and fans this morning at St. James' Park in what was seen as a complete surprise to many.

The new magpie manager played his junior football in Portugal before moving across to Australia in the mid 2000's at the ripe age of 19. He then shifted his focus to management and managed small Australian clubs before contacting many European & English clubs for a breakthrough. The 25 year old was shocked when he was given the opportunity for a face to face meeting with Newcastle Chairman Mike Ashley.

After jumping on the next flight from Australia to England Vella soon found himself shaking hands with the Newcastle Board after being told he has the drive, passion and focus that Newcastle are looking for in a manager. "This is a dream come true for myself, it really does feel surreal." Vella told media after the announcement was made. "I could not believe that I was trusted with such a high profile job at such a fantastic club in arguably the biggest football league in the world."

Mike Ashley told media that he trusted Vella with the position although he is extremely young and quite inexperienced. "I understand that Vella is at the young age of 25 but he impressed me beyond words in our interview process. I trust that he will do everything possible to achieve success at Newcastle and although he is relatively unknown, I can tell he has what it takes to be here."

The Press Conference

I took my seat at the press conference table alongside Mike Ashley in wait for journalists to start rapidly asking questions

"On behalf of everyone, welcome to St. James' Park, Josh."

"Thanks very much, my complete honour to be here."

"What are your short and long term plans here at Newcastle? Do you see yourself as contenders immediately?"

"In the short term I do believe it might take a few weeks to months before I am settled in here in England, but I do believe in the squad there is enough quality to finish in at least a 6th to 9th kind of position on the table. In the long term I hope to build the club and squad into a force to be reckoned with who can consistently finish in European placings."

"Do you think the team will suffer with the fact you may take some time to become settled into the new management role?"

"Look, I hope not. But like any player that might come from another country it does take some time to get settled in, especially since this is my first time in England. Fortunately for me however, my first language is English so it should not take to long to become familiar with the running of things here in Newcastle. I also believe we have enough quality in the squad to get the season started in a strong manner."

"What kind of football will you be bringing to your new club?"

"As many managers would say, I would love to play some exciting, attacking football for the fans. I do feel however in circumstances I can adapt to different situations and if that gets the team wins, then I suppose that's something the fans would want."

"People say that you are too young and inexperienced to manage such a prestigious club, what do you have to say to that?"

"I completely understand why people would say that, however I will show why I have been appointed as the Newcastle manager. I believe I have the football brain and enthusiasm to manage Newcastle and will prove my worth."

"Have you decided who will be playing in your first team and who will not as of yet?"

"Not really, no. I will give everyone the chance to show me why they deserve a spot in the team. I have followed the Premier League in depth over many years however so I do have an idea of the quality many of the players bring."

"What will you be looking to bring to the team in the transfer market?"

"As of yet I am not completely sure, however I may look to bring quality wingers in if possible."

"Do you have anything to say to those Newcastle supporters that may be unsure if you deserve to be sitting here right now?"

"I say stick with me. I will do everything I can to bring success to Newcastle and believe I can. I am over the moon Ashley has trusted me with this position and I plan on hitting he ground running and showing why he has."

"Thanks very much for answering our questions and good luck for the future"

"Thanks very much guys, see you soon."

The Squad

I arrived at the training ground and was greeted very well by the players, the reception was fantastic as all players made a effort to meet me. I felt more star struck then any of the players would have been for sure.

I sent the players away for a training session and by the end I had a good idea of the players who would be in my starting team for the first games of the season.

Tim Krul
An outstanding goalkeeper. Tim Krul has the reflexes of a cat, fantastic aerial ability and is great in one on one situations. Having a keeper like him between the sticks gives the team a sense of security.


Fabricio Coloccini
A rock down back with fantastic positioning and tackling. Coloccini will definitely be a first team player in the CB position and surely will have big impacts on the result of a match.


Yohan Cabaye
The chief playmaker in the centre of midfield. The passing and creativity of Cabaye will be key in helping the team achieve a high finish in the league. Unfortunately Cabaye will be out for 2 months early in the season after a injury.


Hatem Ben Arfa
Ben Arfa possesses game changing attributes in many aspects of a match, with his acceleration, first touch, dribbling and flair, Ben Arfa will be hard to stop when in form and tucking in behind the striker.


Papiss Cisse'
With the departure of Demba Ba, Cisse will have to pick up the goal scoring responsibility this season and with a fantastic touch and lethal finishing infront of goal, that is very possible if he receives enough opportunity.

To be honest I don't have incredible high aims for the first season. I would like to finish in the top half of the table for sure, as I said in the interview I'm looking to finish somewhere around that 6th-8th place. I think Cisse will be carrying alot of the load up forward however!

Vella's Managerial Debut - Newcastle vs Everton

Martin Tyler: The Premier League is back for another year. This match between Newcastle & Everton marks what is hopefully a long and illustrious managerial career for Vella. It will be a very interesting clash between two teams both predicted by the media to finish just outside the European qualification positions. A fairly long term injury to Cabaye in the centre of midfield will definitely cause Vella a few headaches going into the new campaign. With Newcastle getting away to a sloppy start and failing to score in the two friendlies played over the past weeks it remains to be seen whether Ashley will regret his trust in his young manager. All will be revealed in what is hopefully a fantastic battle.

1' - The clash is underway with Everton kicking off! An electrifying feel around St. James' Park now that the new season is finally underway!

12' - GOAL - A huge defensive error by Colloccini with a failed attempt at a header back to his keeper results in Jelavic running onto the ball and opening the scoring for the away side! 1-0!

15' - Anita hobbles off with a knock, he is able to continue however. Not the brightest of starts for new manager Vella.

31' - Distin hits the upright from a well whipped in set piece by Baines! Newcastle escape going a second goal down!

32' - Moussa Sissoko booked for a challenge on Jagielka.

42' - GOAL - A fantastic cross from left wing by Jelavic sets up Leon Osman with a tap in at the back post! Everton take a 2-0 lead.

45' - HT: A great start for Everton making the most of the 6 chances the have had at goal, scoring 2 of them. Newcastle manager Vella already looking in trouble with major problems in midfield and up front. Possession stats are fairly even but Vella's boys are not going forward with any conviction.

45' - Vella makes an attacking substitute before the start of the second half. Gouffran has replaced Anita and goes straight into the right wing position whilst Ben Arfa tucks in behind Cisse in attacking midfield.

55' - GOAL Pienaar slips in behind the Newcastle defence and puts the game beyond doubt with Everton's 3rd of the match. 3-0

83' - Ryan Taylor is sent off for a dangerous challenge on Oviedo. The frustration of the Newcastle players is coming to the boil now with the game well and truly beyond doubt.

86' - Shola Ameobi hits the post off the bench! Frustration continues for Newcastle.

90' - FT: Newcastle 0 - 3 Everton. The Newcastle boys are put out of their misery with the full time whistle. I'm sure more questions were raised tonight then answers produced by Vella. Jelavic and Pienaar absolutely run Newcastle ragged today and it reflected on the scoreboard.
