Robbie Keane Retires
Robbie Keane has announced that he has decided to retire from professional football due to a serious injury sustained in training. He has now spoken of his desire to pursue a management career back in Europe.
Keane, who has spent the last year playing in the MLS, for Los Angeles Galaxy, sustained the injury in an ordinary training session. There has been no official word from the club what the injury is, but sources inside the club say that the Ireland international has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, which would have put him out until the end of the American season anyway. Keane is the all-time leading scorer for the Irish national team, and has been captain since 2006. Since then, he has captained Ireland to the 2012 European Championships, where they went out at the Group Stage, after scoring only one goal. He has only been back for a matter of weeks, before this injury ended his career. Irish fans are said to be in mourning for losing such a huge talent.
Several clubs in England are said to be interested in offering Keane his first managerial role. The 32-year-old is allegedly interested in joining Swindon, Oldham, or Coventry, who all play in the nPower League 1, and all have vacant jobs. They are all confident that he would do well in the role.
