J – Journalist

RK – Robbie Keane

J – Hi Robbie, welcome back to Ireland. How does it feel to be back?

RK – Well, I’m feeling great at the moment. I loved playing for Ireland at international level, and I grew up here as well, so it’s just great to be back.

J – Do you think it’s fair to say that you aren’t really who the fans were expecting to see?

RK – Yes, I’d agree with that. I’ve only just retired a couple of weeks ago, and definitely didn’t expect to get a job as soon as I did. If I had got a job, I’d have thought it would be low-league somewhere.

J – How far do you think Ireland can go?

RK – Well obviously, with the country being the size that it is, people won’t be expecting us to do anything great, ever. But honestly, I think, in a few years, maybe 10 or 15, we can win the World Cup.

J – And do you think you’re the right man to take them there?

RK – Well, we’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we? The FA trusted me with this position, and now I have to try and fulfil it.

J – What kind of tactics do you think you’ll be aiming for?

RK – Well, I can’t tell you really. Not only because I don’t want rival teams to find them out, but because I’ll be changing them based on what players we have available. I wouldn’t say we have a set range of tactics.

J – Ok, that’s all we’ve got time for. Good luck for your time in Ireland, Robbie.

Squad Report - Key Players

Shane Long is the standout player there for me. If we want to qualify for the World Cup, he'll be a massive part of our side, and thankfully so. We also have Jonathan Walters and Simon Cox as well if we need them. It's just a shame we don't have me any more.

I looked at the squad report my new assistant had sent me, and smiled as I remembered working with all these players when I was still playing. I was really looking forward to working with them again, and pushing on towards the World Cup.

Great start, as expected from a Blue story.

I sincerely hope this doesn't distract you from your Matthaus story but knowing you, you'll be able to juggle both saves/stories at the same time

Guys, I had a bit of a scare earlier, because going to the Captains page made my FM crash. This was due to a problem with the editor data I used when I removed Keane from the game, but I didn't remove him from captaincy positions. A big thanks to RandydeB for fixing this for me. I have had to now make a new save, meaning my first match will now be against Estonia, not Peru. This is a small price to pay for continuing this story.

I will have more updates soon, including announcing my new captain.
