December
December started with the last group stage game of the Europa League. FC Halifax would face Belgian side Standard Liege who, so far, had been the whipping boys of the group without even a point to their name. A short trip across the North Sea saw the Shaymen finish their group in style, a televised match away from home.
Scott Wooton rose above all opposition to head the ball home in the 11th minute and despite the frenzied attempts from the home side to try and secure at least one point from their European campaign the play would go all Halifax's way. A rare goal from defensive midfielder Vadis Odjidja half way through the second half confirmed the result and the Shaymen's progression was achieved with only two points dropped. Having only scored seven goals in the six games, it wouldn't be the most memorable European group stage but the combined efforts of Fraser Forster and Sam Johnstone meant that with only one goal conceded the Shaymen would progress with the best goal difference as well.
Euro've Got To Be Kidding!
Alex T has done it again! In two consecutive seasons he has lead his low division side through the group stages of the Europa League. The reigning Champions still stand a chance of defending their title. Could it be two in two for the West Yorkshire up and comers.
Here at the Sun we think so, since joining the club five years ago there are only three possible trophies that the Shaymen haven't won. While a lot of that is down to the sheer amount of effort put in by the players, many reports state that the man known as 'The Tinkerer' encourages the levels of creativity that have so far brought such success to the Halifax trophy room.

Playing catch up when you are several games behind is never easy. FC Halifax would face nine league matches this month, including some tricky fixtures against teams like Bolton, Leeds United and QPR.
First up was ex-affiliated team Sheffield Wednesday. It was the first time Joe Nwankwo would face the club that so enjoyed having him on loan. He was greeted by the Halifax fans as one of their own and even when he scored to equalise for the visitors, after Odjidja's professionally finished effort had put the home side ahead, there was a low round of applause from the admiring Halifax faithful. The match would end a draw but was considered a fair result by all.
Next Halifax would host past season rivals Nottingham Forest, one of the few clubs to have beaten the Shaymen since Alex T took over so long ago. It was looking like a grim repeat of history when the Shaymen went 1-0 down only 15 minutes into the match, but true to form, and after a half time talk in the traditional Alex T fury style, FC Halifax took control. David Mellor, Apostolos Vellios and defender Lee Addy all found the back of the net to secure yet another glorious comeback for their side.
The Shaymen went into the next match with the knowledge that a win would put them top of the league for the first time this season. Despite their impressive run of form, the sheer amount of matches they have in hand had kept them from the top spot thus far. All that stood in their way was Burnley, but not for long. It took Vellios less than one minute to score the opening goal. He would go on to score a hat-trick by the 57th minute without any sign of a reply from Burnley who had, in truth, controlled the match. They would eventually score a conciliation goal but a fourth goal for Halifax from young winger Adria put the final nail in the coffin. Even with the lions share of the possession, Burnley simply couldn't make it count and FC Halifax found themselves topping the table at last.

Halifax would travel West to Bolton next to pay a visit to ex-player and fan favourite Nick Townsend. The Keeper having been controversially sold due to a release clause in his contract. Keen to greet him in the only way they know how, the Shaymen would have to wait until nearly half time before Lee Addy found himself on the end of a saved shot, despite proving his reflexes already there was nothing Nick Townsend could do to stop the rebound from being powered home by the Ghanaian defender.
Michael West would make it 2-0 shortly after half time and Bolton's only response was a late goal from Andrews. The Shaymen would march onwards once more.
A local derby is always a fan favourite, never more so when it is two teams like Leeds United and FC Halifax. Leeds, whose fall from grace has been well documented over the years would play host to their up and coming neighbours. This match had been a real treat in the first match of the season and would prove to be so once more. There was a real improvement on the overall cohesion of the Shaymen this time around however and they dominated on the shots front. Despite this they would only find the net twice, both times through superb movement from Apostolos Vellios. Showing that quality is always better than quantity Leeds United took possession throughout and despite having half the number of shots, overall and on target, they would find the net twice as well.

Never ones to let a draw stall their momentum the Shaymen played host to Watford and Leicester within the next week. Watford put up a brave fight but could only leave defeated with a 2-1 result. It would be worse for Leicester however, they would feel that they could well have won at least a point from the match if not for a disastrous own goal by Danny Drinkwater, attempting to head the ball off his own line he could only direct it up into the top netting.
FC Halifax were playing with real confidence now and they headed South to meet QPR next. In a match that everyone expected to end in a draw it came as some surprise when the Shaymen demolished the ex-premiership side 4-0. Adria scoring after only 5 minutes set the scene for the rest of the game and another own goal, the second in favour of Halifax in two games, increased their lead just before half time. The second half followed suit as David Mellor and Apostolos Vellios finished the rout on manager Alex T's birthday, the perfect present.
The final match of the month, indeed the final match of the calendar year, Derby would head to the Shay to meet the non-stop points gathering machine of Halifax. Keen to seal the deal, Lee Addy put the home side in front from a well rehearsed corner in the 4th minute. Derby threw everything they could at the Shaymen but it wouldn't do them any good. Matty Done put in a rare appearance and showed his worth with a goal in the 58th minute.
FC Halifax Take-Over Latest
With speculation rife about the potential take-over of FC Halifax by local businessman Liam Palmer, Sky Sports can exclusively reveal that he has taken control today after a successful £13.25M bid.
Fans and staff alike were waiting with baited breath for this announcement and it should see the end to the recent Transfer Embargo put in place by a cautious Halifax board, just in time for the January window.
Previous Chairman David Bosomworth spoke to us about the take-over:
"We were keen to get t'deal done as soon as possible. T'club and t'fans were getting anxious about missing out on t'transfer window and hopefully t'extra funds that Liam can bring to the Shay will help it t'achieve t'goals everyone is starting t'expect."
He went on to issue his thanks:
"I want t'thank t'fans for all of their support over the years, we've seen good times and bad but t'roller coaster has been climbing high for a few seasons now and I feel that t'club needs more than I can offer. I'll miss everyone but I'll still be there, just in t'stands from now on. Alex T and I remain firm friends and I will certainly be watching his career with interest."
Shortly after this interview, David left the Shay for the last time and we got to speak to the new Chairman, Liam Palmer, who had made his fortune in the haulage industry, he told us:
"I've supported FC Halifax for as long as I can remember so when I heard that David was looking to sell the club I simply couldn't refuse. The past few seasons have been amazing and to be part of that is quite possibly the best thing I can think of doing with my money. I'd like to apologise to the fans and staff for the stress that a pending take-over can put on people, but that should all be behind us now. While I aren't looking to provide any direct investment at this stage that shouldn't dissuade us from planning for the future, whatever it may bring."
December Review
In a month when Leicester have been deducted 10 points for going into administration, finance has never been a more important issue. The takeover of FC Halifax Town will help keep the wolves at bay but it is essential that the Shaymen continue their winning ways to prevent the coffers from emptying rapidly.
On the field things couldn't be going better, a 77% win rate in the nine games meant that Alex T was awarded the Manager of the Month award for the first time this season. Merry Christmas everyone.
