SUMMING UP THE TRANSFERS

September 2, 2014
The transfer window closed yesterday evening, after the match against Genoa, that we played awfully. I am pretty satisfied with what we achieved during the market, that was very busy with 5 players entering the squad, and more than 10 leaving for other places… I had a really large amount of money to spend, 101M€ given me by the board with the aim of winning again the league and to arrive in the UCL semifinals… But I didn’t use that much, I felt my squad was fit for those objectives!

THE JOB OFFER...

The day before the transfer window opened, I received a call by David Gill, Man Utd’s Managing Director. He proposed me a job at his side: a 3,7M€ contract with a transfer budget of 72M€. It was almost a million more than what I am paid by Milan, but it was not a matter of money, but a matter of heart! I’ve always been a Milan’s supporter and I am not interested in leaving this bench now that I am sit on that! Then, I kindly turned down the man’s offer…

TRANSFERS IN.

Michael Essien on the left, Nuri Sahin on the right.

After the arrivals of Mattia Perin, Fabio and Denys Garmash, already signed before the beginning of the window, I decided to bargain with Chelsea the definitive purchase of Michael Essien after the good season he played with us last year: with Massimo Ambrosini having decide to retire from football, I needed an experienced man in the midfield and I could sign him for only 1,1M€, despite the buy-clause I set up with Chelsea was of 4,3M€.

In the middle of July, I received news that Real Madrid had decided to sell Nuri Sahin out. I had always admired that midfielder, since he was a Dortmund player, than I decided to loan him in my team, setting up a 9M€ buy-clause for the next season.

TRANSFERS OUT

Philippe Mexes on the left, Nigel de Jong on the right.

After the departure of Balotelli, Nocerino and Adrian, I decided that the squad still remained too large for me. Then, I transfer listed many players, the most important of which was Philippe Mexes, that left our side to go back to his country to join Monaco in a 4,7M€ deal. Other nine men left the team definitively. Among the others, Bartosz Salamon joined Catania in a 6M€ deal, Riccardo Saponara joined Cesena for 3,4M€, while Nigel de Jong was the one I decided to sell to leave space to Sahin: I was getting tired of his rude way of playing and Spanish Real Sociedad came to my door with an 18M€ offer that I couldn’t really turn down.

The large number of 24 players left the team on loan all over the world to gain some first team experience, the most important to notice being Lyes Chiha (Nancy), Valiant Virgili (Fiorentina), Markus Muller (Kaiserslautern), Amedeo La Rosa (Pisa), Carlo Malizia (Real Sociedad) and Mirsad Bakovic (Parma).

LOOKING BACK TO THE TRANSFER MARKET

September 4, 2014
The last minutes of the transfer market has just passed and I think that I did a nice work, well preparing the squad for the next season. An hard work was needed to do that and I passed my days between the pitch, for the pre-season, and the phone, for the market. The improved financial status of the team give the board the possibility to give me a good budget, 8M€ at my disposal, that I used mainly for some interesting youth I planned to block for the next season.

TRANSFERS IN

From left to right, Gomes, Sebastian Boenisch and Lucas Romero.

Eleven players joined our side during this transfer window. I needed an expertized goalie and I found Gomes in the free transfer list: the former Tottenham goalie can be a good add to the squad due to his first division experience and can be a good example for Ahmetaj.

I add four elements in the defense roles. Three of them came from the free transfer list: the 26yo Argentinian center back Leonardo Sigali has played a lot of matches in his country’s first division and can add a lot to the team; José Maria is a man for the future, he has 19yo and had to grow up before being ready for the first team; Amedeo Benedetti is a 22yo left back with good potential and can be a good backup for my new first 11 man in that role, Sebastian Boenisch, that I signed from Leverkusen for 1.1M€, a good deal I think for this good left back.

Another five men joined our side in the midfield part. Lucas Romero has the skills to be a key player in the center of our midfield for this season, while Bruno Zuculini and Goran Crnigoj will challenge for a place in the starting line-up. I signed the first two for free, while I loaned the third from Basel, agreeing a 2M€ buy-clause with them. The last two, Quique Lara and Carlos, are definitely players for the future as they are less than 17yo.

The last one to have joined us is Adrian, that I signed for 0.7M€ from my brother’s side, A.C. Milan, and can become a first 11 man for our team, challenging his place with Issa Yameogo and Diego Cervero.

TRANSFERS OUT

From left to right, Manu, Francesco Renzetti and Aitor Sanz.

I had to take hard decisions on the players who had to leave our side this season, men that I felt not ready to play in a first division league. They were eight and their departures helped also to improve the economic health of the team.

The arrival of Gomes made me possible to sell Manu: the Spanish goalie was not in my plan and was subject of the interest of Deportivo, where he had played two seasons, that paid me 1.5M€ for a player that I signed for free last season.

Four entered the defense and three left it. Elvedin Dzinic asked some months ago to leave as he had never had enough space and I sold him to Havre, that paid 450K€. The two Italian left back, Simone Sini and Francesco Renzetti left both our side and will be replaced by Benedetti and Boenisch: Sini came back to Italy, being signed by Reggina for 155K€, while Renzetti is going to stay in Spain having joined Racing for 2.8M€. A great deal for me as I paid him nothing!

Dealing with the midfield, the worst goodbye regarded Aitor Sanz: the guy loved Oviedo and I had great respect to him, but had not the skills to play in a first division in my opinion. I preferred to sell him to Havre for 100K€, where I hope he will find space. Alejandro Gagliardi left us without any sign for his performances: he joined Russian Rostov in a 200K€ deal. Finally, after having actively participated in our two promotions, the young Brazilian Lucas Mendes left us to join Gimnastic in a 600K€ deal.

The unique striker to leave us wasLeo Aro: I thought that this Brazilian could be a good man for us, but he showed he cannot be even in a second division, then I sold him to Ascoli for 110K€.

Finally, eight youngsters were loaned to other teams all over Spain to achieve some experience, the most important of which being Borja Goni and Nyon Blaze, who joined Real Madrid second team, José Maria who joined Eibar, and Pau, who joined Salamanca.

FUTURE TRANSFERS

The largest amount of money I spent was devoted to sign two young South American hot prospects, two that may become world class in my opinion and are going to join us next season.

The first is the young Argentinian striker David Solari, that I paid him 3M€ to Instituto, a guy with great finalizing and heading skills. The second is a Paraguayan left back named Hugo Flores that I paid 3.5M€ to Libertad, but in perspective he can become one of the greatest in his position in the world.

I really hope! I love the way that guy plays... Or better, played when he was in Dortmund! :D Thanks for commenting mate!
A ‘FAMILIAR’ FRIENDLY

July 24, 2014
It has been really strange to sit on my bench in Nuevo Carlos Tartiere, looking at my team playing hard against their opponents, with my brother sat just few meters far on the other bench… I had never thought that this could happen, even in a friendly match. But I was there and brothers or not, I wanted to play the best match I could against the European champions!

We had not the best start ever: after 4 minutes we were down cause of a goal by Stevan Jovetic. At that moment, one could think that it was the beginning of a bad day… Instead, my players work hard and managed to close the half time only one goal down: a great result for us!

The half time seemed more the one of an amateur match among friends, with the players sat in the middle of the field speaking to each others. My brother came to me and said “Wow, not bad bro! Your players are fighting really hard!” I replied “They are good lads, and playing against the European champions is a great moment for all of them.”

Both of us changed completely the line-up for the second half, that was mostly dominated by them. But they couldn’t score and the match ended 0-1. And ended in a party, with all the players exchanging their shirts and complimenting each other in the middle of the pitch… In particular with my players fighting for having the ones of Falcao, Jovetic, Albiol, and so on! My bro hugged me, saying it was really proud of what I did here. I was far more of him than it was of me! We also exchanged a ball with all the autographs of the team players on it… The funny thing was that I was receiving a ball autographed by my brother, and viceversa…

It was a really great moment! At the end of the match, the Sky troupe came with our friend, Gianluca Di Marzio, interviewing us (Stefano (me), Andrea, Gianluca).

G - “Well guys, Sky couldn’t have been here for this great moment: the brothers’ match! What are your feelings?”
A - “It was a great emotion to see my brother sat on the other bench. And I got really impressed for the work he has done here: his team is really difficult to face and we could hardly win against them!”
S - “Well, I agree with my brother: it was a great emotion! I am proud of my guys that could play so great against a wonderful team such as my brother’s one. I hope one day we will face them in a real match…”
A - “I am really looking forward for that moment too! Stefano is doing a great job, and I think this will happen soon!”

OK, he is my little brother, but being complimented by the European champions’ manager still remains a great moment for the manager of a little team like Oviedo… Little compared to Milan, of course…

Some great updates mate good transfers in to both Milan and Oviedo

Nice transfer update. Can't believe you got Gomes though haha. Didn't Milan have anyone available on loan instead? Can't wait for the season to restart again :)
Kr1ups: thanks mate! :)

Paddy: I know that Gomes is not the best, but I needed an expertized goalie and Milan has only a 17yo one on loan. My first choice was Kameni, but he wanted a 700K€ wage and I couldn't pay him! :/ Fortunately, Gomes is doing his job till now... ;)

An Analysis of A.C. Milan

September 3, 2014
The market has just closed in Italy and the break for National teams matches give us time to give a review of the Italian teams. We start from the actual holders of both the Serie A and Champions League trophies: A.C. Milan.

Goalies: Fraser FORSTER, Mattia PERIN.
Forster is a certainty for Gagliardo, having led the team to all the trophies won so far. Perin keep Abbiati’s heritage and will be the backup of the more experienced English goalie, trying to lear as much as possible from him.

Defenders: Ignazio ABATE, Raul ALBIOL, Luca ANTONINI, Mattia DE SCIGLIO, FABIO, Tonny HENDRIKS, Lisandro LOPEZ, Nicolas NKOULOU, Ahmed TRAORE, Christian TRASCH
The starting line-up will not change, with De Sciglio and Abate wide, Nkoulou and Lopez in the middle. The other one will fight for having space during the season, with the two youngs, Hendriks and Traoré, that will have the possibility to grow up near world class players.

Midfielders: Kevin-Prince BOATENG, Michael ESSIEN, Denys GARMASH, Maxime GONALONS, Leon GORETZKA, Ricardo MONTOLIVO, Nuri SAHIN
Maxime Gonalons will be the one to have the key role of the midfield in front of the defense, with Essien being his backup. Boateng, Garmash and Montolivo will fight from the beginning for the two places in the midfield, but the other ones are immediately on their back looking for taking their places during the season. Pay attention to Sahin: Gagliardo loves him and thinks he can play in all the three positions…

Wingers: Stephan EL SHAARAWY, Stevan JOVETIC, Mbaye NIANG, Tarek TRABELSI
The Little Pharaoh is the star among the wingers: he has grown up a lot in the last two season with Gagliardo and will play a key role in his mind. Jovetic will be the regular on the left side, but Trabelsi is going to fight for his place.

Strikers: FALCAO, Carlos FIERRO, Giampaolo PAZZINI
Obviously, the star cannot be no one else than Falcao: with 40 goals scored last season, he will certainly be the key player of the team. Fierro had a good season on loan to Palermo last year and will be a good backup together with Pazzini.

Youngsters: Mirsad BAKOVIC, Lyes CHIHA, Carlo MALIZIA, Markus MULLER, Valiant VIRGILI, Natale VISCIGLIA
Visciglia is probably the best Italian prospect of the last 2-3 years and will stay in the U20 squad at least for the first six months. Gagliardo is certainly going to call him for the Coppa Italia matches to test him once again in the first team. The other ones are very good prospect and can be really useful to Gagliardo in a near future: for this reason, the Rossoneri’s manager decided to loan them to other teams, to let them achieve that experience that will be needed in their future with the side’s shirt.

A LOOK AT THE SQUAD

September 7, 2014
Being in the first division also means that you have some breaks during the season due to the international duties of the players. I decided to take advantage of this time to analyze a bit my team role by role.

THE GOAL

Both Gomes and Albi are good lads. I think the Brazilian will be my regular most of the times due to his greater experience, with Albi that can learn a lot from him in order to be a good regular for the next seasons.

THE DEFENSE

Not a bad defense for a just promoted team. Anis has shown he is a good wide, both on the right and on the left, and will be my regular on the right side, with Wei fighting for his place. On the left, the experience of Boenisch makes him my first choice, with Benedetti as his backup. In the middle, Dzikamai is untouchable despite his 19yo, with Wellington fighting with Sigali for the second place: the Brazilian has been great last season, but Sigali is more experienced in first division matches having played many seasons with Godoy Cruz first team. The young Papp is going to have his space to continue his growing: he showed great skills last season and he can become a regular in the next years.
Among the youngsters, the ones with the most shining future seem to be Lorenzo and José Maria, but they need some more time to show that.

THE MIDFIELD

I think Lucas Romero is going to be our key player: he is only 20, but he has a good experience in first division matches and great skills to be our best midfielder. Osuji and Zuculini will fight for a place at his side, while Marcinho and Serge will claim some place during the season, with the second playing with the U19 team in the meanwhile. The wings will be given to Fabio Henrique and Crnigoj at the beginning, with the Brazilian that is going to be the regular for all the season with Alvarez growing up after him, while Ganchozo will fight for some place on the left.. Guberti is my jolly player, having the possibility to play on both the sides.
Among the youngsters, Carlos and Borja Goni are definitely the ones with the most shining future. I am particularly interested in the first one, that I think can become a world class player in the next years, hopefully with Oviedo’s shirt.

THE ATTACK

Three players for two places: Diego, Issa and Adrian. The last one did great in the pre-season scoring 6 times and showing his great skills, but the Captain and the young English has shown their love for the side’s shirt last season and will fight for a place. Villalobos will be their backup, with Vera that is going to leave the team in January to join Racing, as he asked me to leave for playing more.
The most interesting prospect is for sure Nyron Blaze: I am thinking of recalling him from his loan when Vera will leave the team…
Stefano Gagliardo
Looks like some quality signings.

But be careful. Remember that you can only have 3 foreign players in the 25 man squad.
Another Spanish team might have burned themselves on that. X-(

I paid attentio to that: except from Sigali, the other have two nationalities! I have exactly three non-EU men (Wellington, Xu Wei and Sigali)... ;)

Thanks for commenting mate! :D

THE SEASON START

THE SUPER CUPS

The first matches of the year were devoted to the Super Cups, the Italian and the UEFA ones. Before the ending of August, we had already achieved two trophies! A stunning result for us!

San Siro, Milano, August 08, 2014 - Final
MILAN - Catania 2 - 0

The guys gifted my the Italian Super Cup in the day of my 37th birthday. A completely dominated match, closed in the first half by a double by Falcao.

Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff, August 29, 2014 - Final
MILAN - Montpellier 4 - 2

A really crazy match! We were two goals down after 20 minutes, conceding two goals in 3 mins. I was furious! We were playing against Montpellier, that is not the greatest team on Earth! Falcao scored before the end of the half, but we were still down… I shouted against my team for 15 mins and I obtained what I aimed. In three minutes we were leading thanks to another two goals by Radamel. After 54 mins we were 4-2 thanks to a goal by El Shaarawy. The double was completed! After the match, Gonalons credited my furious talk in the half time as the changing point of the match… A great point to my leadership on the group!

SERIE A
We had not a great start in the league, partially caused by the draw against Genoa, but mainly by the really bad defeat against Juventus. Fans were really upset from that, but I am even more than them! They showed to be superior to us, but they are not! But apart from that, we had ups and downs, not playing our standards with continuity. Not a good point…

San Siro, Milano, August 23, 2014 - Day 1
MILAN - Empoli 4 - 0

Luigi Ferraris, Genova, September 1, 2014 - Day 2
Genoa - MILAN 1 - 1

San Siro, Milano, August 23, 2014 - Day 3
MILAN - Chievo 2 - 1

Friuli, Udine, September 21, 2014 - Day 4
Udinese - MILAN 0 - 2

Juventus Stadium, Torino, September 24, 2014 - Day 5
Juventus - MILAN 2 - 0

San Siro, Milano, September 27, 2014 - Day 6
MILAN - Palermo 3 - 0

We ended the month in the third place, 5 points beyond Juventus and 3 beyond Parma. We have to increase that table as soon as possible…

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The group draws was not good to us: we were put in Group F together with PSG, Tottenham and Fenerbache, maybe the worst team to draw in every box…

Parc de Princes, Paris, September 17, 2014 - Group F, Match 1
Paris Saint-Germain - MILAN 1 - 1

A tough match. We were underdogs at their home, but we managed to draw thanks to a wonderful goal scored by Stephan. Unfortunately, the first goal was scored by the wrong Da Silva brother, Rafael

San Siro, Milano, September 30, 2014 - Group F, Match 2
MILAN - Tottenham 2 - 0

A solid win against a difficult opponent like the Spurs, with Stephan scoring his second goal in two matches of the UCL.

After two matches, the table says that we are in the first place with 4 points together with PSG, but over them thanks to the G.D.

MAN OF THE MONTH

FALCAO

More than one of the guys was worth of mention, but when you score 8 goals in 7 apps, leading your team to win two trophies with your goals… well… you are the one to be highlighted!

CONFIDENCE AND NEXT MONTH

The board was of course very pleased with what we obtained so far, as well as the fans who were only complaining for the bad defeat against Juventus… And I perfectly understand them!

A not very busy month the one that is waiting us, due to the international duties of the players. The most important match will be the one against Parma, that are above us at this very time.

Great transfers mate and a good start at AC except for the loss to Juve mate. A good draw to P$G and a nice win against Spurs! That isn't the easiest CL group though!
