There was quite some anticipation among a number of clubs across Europe as UEFA drew the 8 groups for its annual UEFA Champions League. Last season's champions Inter Milan is faced with a relatively easy Group F consisting of Sevilla, Bayer Leverkusen, and Olympiakos. Arsenal, who fell in the final to the Nerazzurri, will play Valencia, Twente, and Red Star Belgrade in Group B.
There are no less than
two so-called 'groups of death' this year, an exciting prospect for football fans across Europe. In Group D, Barcelona, Juventus, Porto, and Rapid Wien will face off while Group H boasts the likes of Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray, and Lech Poznan. Real Madrid and Paris St.-Germain will also face each other in the group stages as they have both been drawn in Group E with Parma and FC Kobenhaven.
This year looks like it will be a very exciting season for all fans of European football. With the group stages set, the competition can finally begin. Can Inter be the first to retain their crown since AC Milan in 1990, or will there be a new giant to rise to the throne? There can only be one.
