INTER LIFT FIFTH STRAIGHT SCUDETTO

When Giuseppe Bergomi took charge of Inter Milan in the summer of 2012, there was a definite optimism about the Nerazzurri faithful, but nobody expected such a quick and glorious return to an era reminiscent of the Golden Days of the 2000's.
Then, under managerial greats Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho, Inter Milan swept aside all competition, winning five straight Serie A championships, two Coppa Italia, four Supercoppa Italiana, and, of course, the crowning jewel, the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2010 that capped off the first ever treble in Italian football history.
A period of instability and financial woe followed those glorious days, until at last club legend Giuseppe Bergomi was handed the reigns, and from there the club never looked back.
Fast forward five years, and look back over the outstanding success Inter has enjoyed; yet another five consecutive Scudetti, five consecutive Coppa Italia, three Supercoppa Italiana, a Europa League triumph, and, of course, another UEFA Champions League crown in 2016.
This year's Serie A triumph, however, is different, in that Bergomi has shattered yet another record during his impressive reign over his beloved Nerazzurri. This year, it took only 30 matches to mathematically guarantee the title with 88 points, with second placed Juventus a full 25 points back on 63. This is the earliest ever Scudetto win, done before even April had begun.
Philippe Coutinho led the way to the title with 14 goals and 8 assists in 25 matches, picking up some of the goalscoring that was left empty without the help of Mattia Destro and Ademilson who suffered injury-strewn seasons. Defensively the Nerazzurri also looked strong with Gino Peruzzi and young Brazilian Emerson Luiz rated as the two best performing players in the league.
Inter secured the title at the Stadio Olimpico against Lazio thanks to an early Raheem Sterling goal that gave Giuseppe Bergomi's side a 1-0 win that ended in raucous celebrations from the rather large traveling contingent of fans.
"I am absolutely ecstatic. This has been a delightful season, and to win the Scudetto five times in a row is a downright historic achievement. Inter, as a club, have won ten of the last twelve, and if that doesn't make us the greatest club in Italian history, nothing will," said Giuseppe Bergomi.
The fiery Italian boss wasn't satisfied with his season just yet, though. "We've won four trophies already this season, but we can't rest on our laurels. We want to win the Coppa Italia, but the most important prize lays ahead; defending our Champions League crown. If we can do that, talk to me again then, and we'll crack open a bottle of wine."
