ITALY SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR QUALIFIERS


If there's one thing to be said about FIFA's scheduling system on the international stage, there is no doubt that that thing is that it often makes no sense. Just a week ago, there was an international friendly break, and now there is another, this time with crucial World Cup Qualifiers.

The Italian national team sits pretty atop their group and will now play their 7th and 8th matches against Slovakia and Andorra expecting big wins in both. Should other results go against Israel, the Azzurri, led by Giuseppe Bergomi, could qualify for Russia 2018 with a full two match to spare.

Bergomi has of course chosen a very strong squad for the fixtures despite the gulf in class, and he will hope for strong performances from stars Mattia Destro and Andrea Poli as well as Leverkusen star and Italy captain Daniele De Rossi. The full squad is as follows:

The Slovaks never stood a chance, truth be told. Hamsik hampered our midfield at times, but we were thoroughly in cruise control throughout the match. Andrea Poli, Sebastian Giovinco, and Mattia Destro really impressed me, but the big talking point was Mario Balotelli. He's hardly turned up for me during my reign over the national team, but he made a strong impact of the bench. I hope this good form continues in the next match.

Review
Another excellent win, but this time I'm not too impressed, considering it was only Andorra. The poor souls came out bravely but we swept them aside with ease; Destro and Balotelli with Giovinco in behind was a nightmarishly brilliant attacking tandem and I can't wait to see them at the World Cup. Insigne and Borini have some work to do to get into this lineup.

ITALY QUALIFIES FOR THE WORLD CUP


A rampant Italian national team has become the first European nation to secure it's qualification for the World Cup in Russia this summer with a full 2 games to spare. 7-1-0 after 8 games, the lone draw coming in Paris against France, the Azzurri have scored 21 goals and conceded a meager 1 during this qualification run.

Mattia Destro has been the key goalscorer thus far with 7 goals in Group 3 play, continuing his prolific form for Italy. In merely 24 caps, the 26 year old two-time Serie A Golden Boot winner has scored a full 22 goals for his national side, an impressive tally. Others have said that the emergence of Lorenzo Crisetig and Andrea Poli in midfield have also been key to Bergomi's success at the international level.

France and Israel are all that remain for Italy in terms of competitive matches, and those will be meaningless thanks to De Rossi and his men's excellent first 8 games. After an excruciating 2nd place finish in the European Championships two summers ago, the Italians, under the management of World Cup winner Giuseppe Bergomi, will look to take home the world crown in a few months' time.

What a great way to kick off the new Serie A season! Good to see the new record signing get off the mark with a penalty, and Emerson Luiz had a brilliant brace, reminiscent of his magical comeback in the Champions League final last year. Poli and Rogerio have also struck up a very strong midfield partnership that I think could be the best in the world.

Review
As the home side, Cesena held out very strongly for the first half. However, after a heated half time team talk, I managed to get the boys fired up enough to hammer home three goal within fifteen minutes of the restart. Mattia Destro managed to find the net for the first time this league campaign, and I hope he can continue to score and reclaim the Golden Boot!

I'm a little annoyed that we allowed them to score, but we've opened up our defense of our Champions League title very strongly. Just a handful of seconds in, Rogerio scored, and we knew that we were going to walk away with another strong win. Rogerio, Ranocchia, and Sterling have all been in great form, and I'm pleased they've continued to score goals!

COMING UP NEXT!

Now that we've opened up the season with three straight wins and sit tied atop the Serie A and UEFA Champions League group tables, we are ready to storm through what may be my final season in charge. Up next is a daunting away match against Juventus, our perennial runners up, and we hope to put them in their place with a strong win!

INJURIES HARDLY DISTURB INTER'S DOMINANCE


Early season injuries always seem to be a small problem for Inter, and yet every year the Nerazzurri hardly feel the loss of players considered very important at the club. This year, the same curse has fallen once again, with Gino Peruzzi and Adam Maher having missed the first few weeks of the season already and set to miss a few more.

Dutch midfield maestro Adam Maher had picked up a twisted knee in early September and missed the next few fixtures and is targeting a return against Vicenza or Celtic in early October. After a strong campaign last season in which he scored 13 goals, many people expected Maher to solidify his role in midfield, but now thanks to injury and the emergence of superstar Rogerio, Maher may find playing time hard to come by.

Argentinian right back Gino Peruzzi has also been bitten by the injury bug. Having torn his hamstring in preseason, the hardworking fullback has been out for a full seven weeks and is set to miss at least another month. A return in December or early January is the current target, but until then Chilean starlet Omar Carrasco has taken the starting role. The 19 year old has duly impressed, and Peruzzi may be hard-pressed to win back his spot in the XI.

"With every cloud there's a silver lining," said Inter manager Giuseppe Bergomi. "Of course it's difficult to cope without players of the world class quality of Adam and Gino, but it's given chances to younger players like Ignazio [Milici] and Omar [Carrasco]."

The return of Maher and Peruzzi in a few weeks' time will be a welcome boost to Inter Milan's title credentials, but even without them, expect Bergomi's Nerazzurri to storm through the league anyway.
