Tomislav Kiš continues playing spectacularly next to Ivan Džoni, as the 18 year old poacher scored another two fabulous goals.

"Tomislav Kiš is truly the ideal target man, when it comes to running on to the ball. Sure, Džoni can play in his position, but at this point, both boys are playing so well together in the position that they are in, that it would be pointless to try to switch things up. I'm so happy that we managed to tie the lads onto long-term contracts so that they have lots of chances to grow next to each other"

And, while Kiš was pulling all sorts of shenanigans on the counter (a true Pippo Inzaghi), Mijo ?aktaš was pulling them on the wing, getting two goals, while Andrijaševi? finished the job. Basel never looked like they were going to pull anything off, and, in the end, they didn't, because as soon as Hajduk scored in the 5th minute, Basel needed way too much to make it happen. All the more so, when Hajduk scored numbers 2 and 3, without reply.

Hajduk have one of the better draws of the unseeded teams, as they face Slovakian champions, MŠK Žilina, a team famous for having the largest ever home group-stage Champions League defeat (0-8 Bordeaux, 2011)

For every football fan in Europe, this was a shoe in. There was no one outside of Split who would bet money on this match, and it was the easiest bet in the world for those who did.

And yet, this morning, countless cups of coffee were spit all over the table in coffee shops all over Europe, as men and women alike flipped through the morning paper and saw this headline on the sports page:

Žilina scored only two goals, and both of them were nearly irrelevant. Hajduk took an early lead, yet again, as their long-balls are proving devastating in the Champions League, as Tomislav Kiš nearly got the opening goal. It got deflected off the bar though, only for Andrijaševi? to set Josip Radoševi? (both of whom are stalling for larger contracts) up for a glorious long shot, to open it in the 9th minute for Hajduk's ENTIRELY HOME-GROWN TEAM. Mijo ?aktaš accidentally headed a short corner into his own goal, but nothing else happened in the first half.

Hajduk then took theie game - which nearly got them a few more goals in the first half - to, not the next level, but the level after that. Džoni scored two goals in three minutes (50' and 52') before Mirko Oremuš hit 4-1. Then, Novak pulled one back for the Slovakians before Goran Milovi? just hit them right back, less then a minute later. And, while Žilina scored one more before the end, to bring it to 5-3, it was Tomislav Kiš to have the last word, FINALLY getting his goal in the 90th minute to demolish Žilina away from home.

Now for the home leg.

Hajduk consider the woes of the first division while dramatically over performing in the Champions League, dropping to 6th place after a 5 minute hattrick by Slaven Belupo frontman, Martin Saban. Tomislav Kiš opened the scoring in the 20th minute, continuing his clinical form in front of goal, but Saban upstaged him only 15 minutes later. All three scrappy goals came just before half-time, ruining Hajduk's chances for the win. Hajduk are still... thankfully, only 5 points off the pace, and still can make it up. The Champions League has to be a priority though...

IVAN DŽONI PACKS ŽILINA HOME

An assist and a goal from the 19 year old sent Žilina going home, with an aggregate score of 8-3, completely blowing the Slovakian Champions out of the water, and out of the cup. Džoni may be more concerned however, at what group Hajduk qualified for. See, Hajduk have qualified for the mythical group of Champions: as Bayern Münich nab the German title and the English Champions, Tottenham are the second seed. Twente FC, the Dutch champions are the third seed, while Hajduk land the fourth and final spot in Group C.

Josip Radoševi?, meanwhile, uses the added hype around him to organize and 8.5 million € move to Ajax at the end of the season. Bendiš does get to use him for the rest of the season, and the Champions League campaign. Fortunately, Franko Andrijaševi?, the vice captain, nabs a 5 year deal to stay at Hajduk.

A spectacular Hajduk finally showed off why the Croatian champions are playing in the Champions League with 6 stunning goals against Inter to go to 4th place. ?aktaš opened the scoring before Mili?evi? headed home his first Hajduk goal just before the half. Tomislav Kiš and Ivan Džoni both continued their great form, Kiš, picking up the 3rd goal, Džoni the 4th, and Kiš again with the 5th goal, before Franko Andrijaševi? picked up his reward for signing a new contract, and scoring a penalty.

Martin Saban leads the scoring charts with 7 goals, but Ivan Džoni and Tomislav Kiš aren't far behind. Džoni and Kramari? bring up 3rd place together with 5, while Kiš is the youngest of the players with 4.

Tottenham opened the tally in the opening match of the champions league, in the 2nd minute, with a lucky goal by Emmanuel Adebayor, before Gareth Bale scored one of his own, and then set up Sandro for a goal of his own.
Hajduk though... weren't down yet, and they staged a comeback in the second half. Goran Rubil scored the goal for 3-1 from a free-kick, before Steven Luštica scored from 30 meters in the top right corner to bring it close. It wasn't enough though, as Tottenham held on... it's going to be difficult for Tottenham in Split though...

A tough champs league draw mate but well done on almost getting the draw and maybe you'll get the win back in Split. League form should pick up soon

DINAMO DOWN HAJDUK BEFORE BAYERN MATCH

Bayern München come on Wednesday, which is Hajduk's only possible excuse for failing to find their European form at home, as Dinamo came away with the win. However, it is important to consider that, financially, Hajduk can come away with almost a million euros by winning a match in the group stage... which is really the prize, as no one thinks that Hajduk can take it to the next level.
Even though Dinamo got a red card, Hajduk could never grab control of the game, especially since Dinamo had both goals in before the 60th minute. Hajduk are currently in 5th place.

BAYERN DISPLAY DOMINANCE

Thomas Müller got two goals and the man of the match award as Hajduk struggle to compete with the biggest names of the competition. Tomislav Kiš got Hajduk's only chance of the match with a one-on-one with Manuel Neuer, but Neuer managed to stave off the 19 year old's shot. And, with Hajduk increasingly grasping at straws, Bayern simply finished it off, with an excellent move in the 80th minute.
To be honest, Hajduk never looked to qualify for the next rounds, but it could do with the financial benefits of a win or a draw. Hopefully the matches against Twente will provide some relief, and there is always Tottenham's visit to Croatia to look forward to.

HAJDUK CRUSH TWENTE TO GET BACK INTO THE GAME

After the Champions League's first round of matches, Hajduk ran into it's first "win" financial 'windfall' as they completely obliterated the Dutch defending champions 3-1. It was the captain, Franko Andrijaševi? who lead the team to victory, but it didn't look like that in the first half.

Hajduk's, and really... the game's, only attack of note, ended in a penalty kick in the 40th minute, where Andrijaševi? took the burden on his shoulders and promptly kicked the ball into the bottom right corner, where it was saved by the Twente keeper. A few lighter attacks went through before the half, but it was in the second that the Croatians finally caught their stride.

Andrijaševi?, nervous after the penalty miss, quickly got over it, and in the 51st thundered a drive from outside the box into the top right corner where the Twente keeper didn't have the chance, before getting on the end of a low cross to make it 2-0 in the 65th. Ivan Džoni nearly scored after a brilliant play by Tomislav Kiš (remember that duo?) but Jelle Vossen silenced Poljud in the 85th minute with a fine shot in the 85th.

Hajduk had the last laugh though, as 18 year old speed merchant, Ton?i Mujan broke the offside trap to score a pokey shot from the left and finish the game in the 93rd minute.

The result leaves Hajduk with 3 points, chasing Tottenham or Bayern (6 and 7 respectively) while Twente trail with a draw against Bayern Münich.

Nice win over FC Twente Can you get past Bayern and Spurs though?
