REAL MADRID SAVES DRAMATIC THREE POINTS AT PACKED POLJUD
HAJDUK 3-3 REAL MADRID R. VARANE O.G., T. KIŠ, M. LJUBI?I? - C. RONALDO, PEPE, K. BENZEMA
A magnificent Poljud cheered it's hometown hero's on, but it almost looked like it would be in vain, as Steven Luštica conceded a weak penalty for Hajduk to go down 1-0 early on in the first half. It was devastating, as it looked like Hajduk were closing Real Madrid down very well. But it wasn't long before Tomi Kiš forced an own goal by Raphael Varane. An otherwise very good Iker Casillas just barely missed a cross before Varane got on the end of it, bumbling the ball over goal. He attempted to save it, but only succeeded in blasting into the top of the net.
Hajduk (somehow) managed to hold onto the result until the end of the first half, and came out excited to play more. Pepe was having other ideas though, and after Goran Blaževi? managed to tip out a corner kick, the defender was waiting on the other side, and hit a fantastic header into the other side of the box, which Goran Jozinovi? just missed the clearance of. 2-1.
Tomi Kiš, again, wasn't having it. The 20 year old dashed up the pitch, and shot, before Iker Casillas pulled a massive save out of his hat. It rebounded to Pepe, who didn't manage to hold onto the ball for long enough, because Kiš snuck around and got to the ball, this time putting it far out of reach from Casillas. This, however, injured him a bit, and the striker went off in the 70th minute to be replaced by 17 year old wonderkid, Mario Ljubi?i?, the man who scores in every game.
Mijo ?aktaš, also nursing a knock, ran up the left before cutting inside, then cutting outside again in the 87th minute, looking for all three points. Hajduk was playing on Real's level now, but they wanted it more... oh they wanted it so much more. And, with that, ?aktaš finally tricked Varane right, before making it left, and floated a beautiful cross into the path of the 17 year old Mario Ljubi?i?, who, calmed it down on his chest before ricocheting the ball into the top right corner. Mario Ljubi?i?, in three games (all as a sub) has not failed to score for Hajduk since his arrival from Slaven Belupo, and this one, his latest and greatest, prompted Bendiš to run down the touchline, screaming from excitement. Hajduk lead 3-2.
It was a simple mistake from Hajduk's back line that brought Bendiš back to earth, as Karim Benzema got a lucky shot in, but at the press conference Mourinho conceded that Hajduk had been the better team, and Bendiš, who had been going through a bit of a tough time, couldn't stop smiling.
And after the match Bendiš was at his café... and, well... it didn't even close last night...
