Lyon starting XI – Vercoutre, Bisevac, Kone, Umtiti, Colazo, Mvuemba, Hughes, Gonalons, Giaccherini, Fierro, Lacazette
Subs Benzia, Briand,
Goals Fierro (34), Lacazette (41)
Montpellier are chasing us for that top spot and we knew we had to avoid defeat to keep the gap at the top at 8 points. The first half showed what we were all about and both strikers notched two goals. Unfortunately we couldn’t hold on to it and let Montpellier back in the game with 2 2nd half goals. A pretty nervy ending but a draw was probably a fair result.

We set up 3-5-2 and went all out against Nancy, who were 19th. We went in at half time 2-1 up and we knew if we won and Montpellier drew or lost against Brest the next day, we would win the title. I told the boys that at half time and in the 2nd half we scored another 2 goals to win the match. Now we could only wait and see.
I decided I would go to Montpellier after the game so I could watch their match the next day. I was nervous but I knew the possibility was great that we could win the Ligue 1 title that day. Brest obliged and won 1-0 away from home despite being under the cosh for the whole game, with ex Evertonian Magaye Gueye scoring a cheeky chip to hand us the title. After a few years of progressively finishing lower in the table than the previous year, we had done it!
