SSC NAPOLI

SSC Napoli: The Frimpong Fantasy

Napoli are a club who could be about to change Serie A and Italian Football. Following the sale of some big stars, their numerous buys seem to put Napoli as possible favourites to be up there with Juventus, Milan and Inter. Because of this, I thought it would be interesting to take them on and see how they do against the big teams under my management.

Editing

Obviously this save has undergone some editing in order to work with their new signings and sales. I am using Pr0's transfer update, but also edited a few players myself, who signed or were sold after the latest release. However, I have only moved the players, and not edited the CA and PA which will have happened to some player on Pr0's update.

The Manager

You may be able to tell by the title, but if not, you will find out soon!

BENITEZ ANNOUNCES DEPARTURES

Rafa Benitez has announced the departure of three players from the club, with one sure to upset many fans, losing a player who many consider to be the key player within the squad. Despite the anger arousing from some fans, Benitez has stated he is happy with the sales, especially for the fee, something the fans cannot complain about.

The first to leave, and the reason behind the anger from many, was Edinson Cavani. Cavani joined the Azzurri in 2010, and scored 78 goals in 104 games, a very respectable figure. The transfer fee only came to £13.75 million, signing from Palermo, so the £55 million Benitez has received for the Uruguayan will certainly please the club. Cavani will now head off to France to play for current champions Paris Saint-Germain, a club known recently for their spending.

At the press conference in Paris unveiling the new star, Cavani did mention his time with Napoli, thanking the club for all they had done for him. Cavani told French journalist Pierre Baguette:

"I cannot hide from what Napoli have done for me. Without them, I wouldn't be playing for PSG now, they have developed me, trained me, and helped me so much. I would especially like to thank Walter [Mazzarri] as he was the man to really help me. He signed me and worked so hard with me, giving up so much to help me. Thank you Walter, and thank you Napoli."

The next player to leave was Hugo Campagnaro. The 32-year-old defender left on a free to join fellow Italian side Inter Milan. Campagnaro managed to score 4 times over 117 games, starting in 2009 after signing from Sampdoria. Campagnaro thanked Napoli for their help during the time of his accident which killed one of the passengers in his SUV and two people in the other car involved in the incident in the summer of 2011, saying they would be in his heart forever.

The final player to leave the Stadio San Paolo was Luca Cigarini, who played just 28 games over 4 years for Napoli. The club paid over £9 million for the player who failed to settle into the club. After spending two years on loan to Atlanta, the two clubs agreed a co-ownership deal for the Italian, who will play for Atlanta next season rather than Napoli. Luca stated he didn't want to leave for good as he felt he still had something to give to the club and would want to do so very soon.

The club wished all three players the very best in the future, but will now be looking to bring in new players to help the side push to the title in the upcoming season.
Superb update, really in depth!

NAPOLI SIGN EIGHT PLAYERS

Following the sales of Edinson Cavani, Hugo Campagnaro and Luca Cigarini, Napoli manager Rafa Benitez hasn't been afraid to splash the cash. The former Liverpool boss spent around £35 million boosting his squad with eight players, thanks to the large transfer income, mainly from the sale of striker Cavani. Benitez unveiled all eight players at once, saying every player will be as important as the other, and that a strong connection is needed for the team to be a success.

The first signing was Raúl Albiol, a centre back who signed from Real Madrid for a fee estimated to be around the £10 million mark. He is joined by fellow Real Madrid star Jose Callejon, who signed for a slightly cheaper fee believed to be £8 million. Albiol managed to feature over 80 times for Los Galacticos, and his experience could help Napoli a lot throughout the season.

Joining them are two new keepers. Rafael, costing £4.5 million, signed from Santos. Having already lost Neymar to Barcelona, Santos parted with their goalkeeper after 114 games, who will battle with Spaniard Jose Reina for the number one shirt. Reina is joining from Liverpool on loan, following the arrival of Simon Mignolet. Competition will be fierce between the two, which could see Reina sign permanently once the loan deal is complete.

Dries Mertens, previously of PSV, decided to bolster the wide midfielders by joining for a fee of around £8.5 million, and is expected to become a key player throughout the season for Napoli. Keeping Mertens on his toes will be Pablo Armero, signing from Udinese for £3.5 million. Armero is somewhat of a versatile player, being able to play in defence and midfield when needed.

And finally both Emanuele Calaio and Josip Radosevic joined from AC Siena and HNK Hadjuk Split respectively. With a combined fee of £1.8 million, it is unlikely the duo will make much of an impact in the starting eleven, but will certainly help improve squad depth.

Rafa Benitez will now be looking at his new men to help Napoli reach new heights as a club.
Another superb update. The one question on everyone's lips is how is Benitez going to get sacked?
