NAPOLI SIGN EIGHT PLAYERS
Following the sales of Edinson Cavani, Hugo Campagnaro and Luca Cigarini, Napoli manager Rafa Benitez hasn't been afraid to splash the cash. The former Liverpool boss spent around £35 million boosting his squad with eight players, thanks to the large transfer income, mainly from the sale of striker Cavani. Benitez unveiled all eight players at once, saying every player will be as important as the other, and that a strong connection is needed for the team to be a success.
The first signing was
Raúl Albiol, a centre back who signed from Real Madrid for a fee estimated to be around the £10 million mark. He is joined by fellow Real Madrid star
Jose Callejon, who signed for a slightly cheaper fee believed to be £8 million. Albiol managed to feature over 80 times for Los Galacticos, and his experience could help Napoli a lot throughout the season.
Joining them are two new keepers.
Rafael, costing £4.5 million, signed from Santos. Having already lost Neymar to Barcelona, Santos parted with their goalkeeper after 114 games, who will battle with Spaniard
Jose Reina for the number one shirt. Reina is joining from Liverpool on loan, following the arrival of Simon Mignolet. Competition will be fierce between the two, which could see Reina sign permanently once the loan deal is complete.
Dries Mertens, previously of PSV, decided to bolster the wide midfielders by joining for a fee of around £8.5 million, and is expected to become a key player throughout the season for Napoli. Keeping Mertens on his toes will be
Pablo Armero, signing from Udinese for £3.5 million. Armero is somewhat of a versatile player, being able to play in defence and midfield when needed.
And finally both
Emanuele Calaio and
Josip Radosevic joined from AC Siena and HNK Hadjuk Split respectively. With a combined fee of £1.8 million, it is unlikely the duo will make much of an impact in the starting eleven, but will certainly help improve squad depth.
Rafa Benitez will now be looking at his new men to help Napoli reach new heights as a club.
