Moyes sentenced to life in prison

A 50-year-old Bearsden man was sentenced today to life in prison for the slaying of several members of the hacking group "Anonymous", prosecutors said.

David Moyes was convicted of first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in the slaying of the men aged between 19 and 32, of Manchester, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

The mothers of the victims, whose names shall not be released, fondly remember them in a victim impact statement as smart and kind young men.

“We all knew the boys was truly talented, with plans to move far beyond a college education,” the mother said.

English law calls for first-degree murder convicts to serve life without parole. But a UK Supreme Court decision last year declared it unconstitutional to sentence defendants under age 18 to life in prison without parole.

Manchester Superior Court Judge Linda Giles sentenced Moyes to life in prison. Moyes was also sentenced to an additional three to five years for his gun conviction, the statement said.

On July 30, 2013, Moyes, 50, approached an abandoned housing development in the South End. Moyes was a member of an Evertonian gang, rivals of a gang associated with the Liverpudlian development.

When the young men approached Moyes they asked him if he was “from over there.” Upon answering yes, Moyes shot them multiple times with a handgun, which he discarded in a dumpster after fleeing the scene, the statement said.

The men were pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

New Owners Found

The Glazer family have ended their 10-year stint as Manchester United owners by selling the club to the Red Horsemen; a large group of former Manchester United stars.

During their time in charge, the Glazer Family took United from strength to strength, sustaining their European success.

"It has been a pleasure and privilege to be chairman of Manchester United Football Club for 10 memorable years," they said.

Financial details of the takeover have yet to be officially disclosed, with media reports valuing the deal at between £1 and £1.5 billion.

A leading supporters group said the news represented an "exciting but uncertain time" for Manchester United, who finished last season as the Premier League winners.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a spokesperson for the group stated "Manchester United is the perfect club at the perfect time for us. I want to be clear, I do not view myself so much as the owner of
Manchester United, but a custodian of the club on behalf of its fans," he said.

"My priority is to ensure the club and Old Trafford each have a viable and sustainable Premier League and European future that fans of present and future generations can be proud of.

"We will manage the club's financial and operational affairs with prudence and care, with youth development and community programmes as fundamentally important elements of our clubs future."

In a statement the Glazers called the Red Horsemen "a living embodiment of the Manchester United success story" and said they met twice before completing the deal.

"I am now delighted to be passing this great and historic club into the care and stewardship of an outstanding group of people who have already achieved great things at this club, I am sure, take Manchester United on to even greater things," said the Glazers.

The members of the Red Horsemen group are yet to be announced, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the only member who has officially come out with a statement of intent.
