October Review

Porto 2-0 FC Kobenhavn
Christian Benteke (59,90+2)

Our first game of the month was in the Champions League, against a team who we should be beating. The lads did not disappoint as we ran away 2-0 winners, with striker Christian Benteke scoring both goals. This win sees us go top of our group, and puts us in prime position to qualify in 1st place.

Porto 2-0 Belenenses
Christian Beneke (3), Marat Izmailov (40)

One of only two league games this season, saw us destroy the opposition, despite what the average score line suggests. We had 14 shots, in reply to their 2, and had around 20% more possession. The goals came from Benteke early on, and Izmailov, who had a cracking game, just before the break. We kept our cool in the second half, to get all 3 points.

Porto 2-0 Vit. Setubal
Hector Herrera (19) Alex Sandro (40)

The third round in the Taca de Portugal saw us play against Setubal, lurking in mid table in the Primeira Liga. I initially planned to rest some key players, but after several injuries in the international break, I was forced to play some of them. After a horrible injury to Jackson Martinez, Benteke led the line, but for once he was not on the score sheet. The goals came from Hector Herrera and left back Alex Sandro, who has already scored 3 goals this season.

Porto 2-1 Marseille
Silvestre Varela (4), Chrstian Benteke (90+1)- Alaixys Romao (79)

Our biggest test of the month came against OM in the Champions League. We started off well and got an early goal through winger Varela. We continued to press, but the game was full of stops, with both sides committing lots of fouls. After a lapse in concentration by our defence, Marseille midfielder Romao got in behind our defence and scored. At this point I changed to a more attacking style, to try and get the points. This paid off, as at the very end, our star striker Christian Benteke managed to head home a winner.

Estoril 0-2 Porto
Valentin Stocker (71) Christian Benteke (80)

The last game of the month was surprisingly the only away game against Estoril. We played well, despite fielding a younger team, but it took us a long time to get on the board, with Valentin Stocker, scoring a neat finish. The second game came from a reliable source, with Christian Benteke firing in to seal the deal.

Month Review

A great month, with 5 wins out of 5, including two wins in the Champions league, to put us top of our group. We still have an unbeaten record in the league, and are looking good contenders for the title. Despite only playing 2 games in the league, we are level on points with Benfica at the top.

Player of the Month

There was only one person who could ever win this award. For the third month running, Christian Benteke will take the crown, after scoring in every game apart from one, including a double against Kobenhavn, and a late winner against Marseille.

Interview with....Christian Benteke

http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/AEkQOksk-Xw/hqdefault.jpg

Today marks the beginning of a new series here on The Portuguese Chronicle, where we have an interview with some of the new and old faces in Porto FC. Today, we will start off with a man, who just recently joined the club for a large fee, and has already began to show his worth with 6 goals in the league already. Christian Benteke!

Interviewer- Welcome, Christian. How has it been settling into a new country, with a new club and new teammates?

Benteke- Well, that was one of my primary issues when I made the move here, as I spoke no Portuguese, and I worried I wouldn't fit in. But, as soon as I got here, I was welcomed with open arms and my worries instantly went away. The lads were really nice, and lots of them even spoke English.

Interviewer- Who is your best friend at the club?

Benteke- I think Steven Defour is one of my best friends at the club, as we new each other before, as we both were part of the Belgium national team, so were already new each other. Also, Hector Herrera has been really nice to me, and we are becoming very close friends.

Interviewer- After your superb start in Porto colours, do you feel that it will be difficult for you to keep this up throughout the entire season?

Benteke- Obviously it will be hard, but if I stay injury-free, I see no reason why not. The support I get here is great, so without them, I would be nothing.

Interviewer- Speaking of injuries, Jackson Martinez has recently succumbed to a horrible injury that could keep him out for two months. How will this affect the team?

Benteke- Jackson is one of the most talented players in the team, so losing him is a bitter blow to our chances. He really leads us, and I enjoy playing alongside him very much.

Interviewer- Finally, how do you rate your teams chances this year?

Benteke- If we keep this early season form going, we should be the favourites for the title. However, In football, you never know, so we have to be at our best for the entire season.

Interviewer- Thanks for your time, Christian, I wish you the best of luck for the rest of the season.
Did the interviewer ask him why he still wears the Aston Villa trainer?
Nice update there mate :P
Quality Updates. Very good story :)
@Akash Are you questioning Benteke's fabulous fashion choice? Great comment as always :P

An Unexpected Call

http://anchorwebsite.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/PhoneOld.jpg

Another day's training over. I walked slowly, but confidently back towards the reception, eagerly anticipating a night out. As I walked past the door, Lisa, a thin Portuguese lady who worked as a receptionist stopped me to say I had a call from someone important. Casually, I shrugged it off, asking Lisa to call them back tomorrow, but she was adamant.

'You don't understand, boss, the guy seemed quite serious.'

'Seriously, Lisa, not now. Unless it was the bloody Prime Minister, I don't want to talk to them today'

The pale women seemed in two minds about her next words. She sighed and began talking again.

'He said that if you didn't listen, to give you a message.'

'Fine, tell me the message, and let me be on my way!'

'The message was two words, but I have no idea what they mean. I think-

'JUST SPIT IT OUT!'

She bit her lip, as she gently whispered, 'Cleaners Limited'.
