Atlético Madrid - Here I come

After taking a closer look at all offers, putting in balance the good things and the bad things, I decided that Atlético Madrid suits me best! And I am in Spain, maybe with some great performances I will have a chance at accomplishing my dreams, managing Real Madrid! We are 12th place in Liga BBVA and the objective is to qualify for Europa League, it will be hard, but we have some very good players!

Meeting the squad

We have some good players and some great prospects, I really can't understand why they are on 12th place. Sadly, we have 2 players injuried for a couple of months, Toby Alderweireld (CD) and Filipe (LB).
The first big change I did was naming Rui Patricio as a captain! I know what is he capable of, he is a great motivator! But the old captain, David Villa got upset so I gave him a lesson, he is transfer listed now!
We have a good team, I won't change anything until the summer, than will be a massive restructuration in the squad.I will also change the staff in the summer.

December: fixtures & results

Liga BBVA

Since I have been out in charge, we played 4 game sin Liga BBVA, 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat.
My first game was really good, teh plaeyrs got motibated, they wanted to show me how good they are and destroyed Almeria with a score of 5-2. Isaac Cuenca was our key player!
The second game was against Malaga, I would say that the draw isn't a bad result.
But the third game was very poor, we lost against Granada! I don't know what the last manager did here, but it is clear for me that the playerd don't have confidance in their abillities. We have to work at the mentals.
The last game in Liga BBVA this month was very good, we won 2-1 against Celta, good solid performance.
Overall a good month in Primera Division, we also managed to get higher in the league, we are now on 10th place and we started on 12th.

Champions League

A one last game remained for me to play in Champions League groups, but a very important one. If we lose, we are out of Champions League, if we win or draw, we qualify for the next stage.
A great performance by our youngster Alberto with a double. Thanks to him we managed to pull back from two behind and qualify for the next stage!


We got lucky at the draw I would say! We have to face Benfica. yes, they are a very good team, but I know them very well and the last games I had against them, I won them all!

Spanish Cup

We played 3 games in this competition.
First we had the second leg against Badalona. Atletico won the first leg 1-0. The performance was great, perfect performance! I don't know how, but our central defender, Miranda, scored 4 times in this game!
Then we had a double against Valencia. The first leg was away, and Valencia defeated us by 2-1 but home we managet to win 1-0 and qualify for the next round, thanks to the away goal.

Other things happened in December

It was my 100 game as a manager! A proud day for me, but sadly we lost the game against Granada.


I did my first transfer as a manager of Atletico, I selled Villa on a fee of 5 mln euros to Celta. Two main reasons for this: he got upset because I changed him as a captaind and second, because he has got a huge salary and we have financial problems. The other players with big wages will be selled in teh summer when we will reconstruct the team!

January: fixtures & results

Liga BBVA

It was a very busy month, but the players started to play well. We played 4 games in Liga BBVA: 2 draws and 2 wins.
We defeated Ponferradina and Getafe. Th victory against Getafe was more important because they were in front of us in the standings and we managed to get in front of them.
Then 2 draws, against the 3rd placed Sevilla and against 1st place Barcelona.
It was a good month, we got 2 places up in Primera Divison this month, now we are only 2 places away from an Europa league spot.

Spanish cup

First it was the double against Sporting, in the quarter finals. We won both games with 2-0 and qualified for the semifinals where we will meet Barca.
We lost the first leg against Barca 4-1, they are clearly better and superior to us this season. But we won the second leg.We didn't qualify in the next round, but I am very pleased with the performances of the players.

Other things happened in January

I have promoted a player from the youth, a very classy central defender, who has huge potential. He played some games this month, and he played very well.



The World player of the year award was won by Neymar.After 2 years of Messi dominance!

This month I signed the first player for Atletico. He will join us as free transfer at the end of his contract in the summer.

And finally, I recieved an offer for international management! I know it is a small team, with very small reputation, but this is a start, and from now on it would be easy for me to go to a better national squad. I also wanna thank mister president, Enrique Cerezo, for allowing me to be the Iceland's manager in the same time as Atletico's manager.

It was't the nest month..we made a lot of draws. From five games played this month in Primera Division, we won 2 and made 3 draws. Adrian is plaing very good, he scores a lot and now Aldeiweireld has come back from injury, Filipe will be 100% fit soon, so things are going good.

As i said earlier, I am not affraid of Benfica. I said that I know them very well and the score reflects that I was true. We won clearly with a 4-1 result. man of the match was Adrian who scored an hattrick!

This month also was El Clasico! I couldn't miss a great football show like this, so I attended the game. I am so glad to see that Real dominated the game and won without a problem!

March and April: fixtures & results

Liga BBVA

Two months almost perfect! The players are enjoying their time and are playing great football.
In March and May we played 8 games in Liga BBVA, % victories and 3 draws, no game lost.
I want to talk about one game, the derby of Madrid, Atletico Madrid - Real Madrid. It was a special game for us, the players love this games as much as the suporters. It was the biggest attendace of the season for us, 54,851 people camed to the stadium and made a great atmpsphere! They pushed us from behind and thanks to a red card recieved by Nacho(Real's central defender) we destroyed them! It was a proud day for us, we celebrated till the morning!

Champions League

Four games played in this competiton this month. Again, a great month!!
First, we los our second leg against Benfica, but the 4-1 win in the first leg qualified us to the next round.
We had massive luck on the draw, having to play Saint-Etienne! I was pretty sure that we will qualify further! We won the home game 4-2 and made a draw 2-2 away! Here we are, in the semi finals of Champions League! Again, we are making history!! The players are playing very well, maybe I won't sell a lot of players in the summer, it depends on teh finances.
But in the semifinals, we have to face PSG, we have to play against Ibrahimovic and Cavani, probably the best strikers in the world! But, here we are again! We won our away game at PSG with 3-2.
I can't belive how this players transformed! When I arrived at the team, they were poor! Theye were down with the morale, lack of confidance, poor performances..but in a couple of months I transformed them in a very solid team with great performances!

Other things happened in march and April

After the great win against PSG, Ranieri(PSG manager) has commented in press about me and our style of playing. It is such an honour to recieve positive comments from a managing legend like Mister Ranieri!
