Great start to the story, always interesting to see a Gary Lineker one. Good luck with Newcastle, they were Prem winners in around the 2015/16 season in my save. Hopefully by then in your save you would have won the Champions League

I agree entirely, at the moment I just want to write this story for enjoyment, to give me some drive. If I end up winning a SotM somewhere down the line (highly unlikely) then I will take it - but I am not aiming for it.

Also your Beckham story is what mostly inspired me (along with Justice's Vauxhall story) and probably many others on here, so to have to comment here means a lot

Kinnear announces a clear out!

Newcastle Director of Football Joe Kinnear has announced there is to be a major clear out this summer after the recent arrival of manager Gary Lineker. He said that "this is the best possible time to get rid of the 'deadwood' and transform Newcastle into the side we all want to see".

When asked if Gary Lineker had been consulted on the so-called 'deadwood' in the side, Kinnear replied harshly "I am the boss around here, you got that! If I want to sell any of my players I can - you hear that, my players! This is not Gary's team, this is my team and I am here to finish a job I started over four years ago. Gary is in charge of tactics, that is all. If he wants to play Ben Afri, he can... but if I want to sell Ben Afri, that is my decision."

With this recent encounter, we are beginning to wonder how long Lineker will be able to handle these unheard of working conditions before speaking out again.

Also, if anyone has any transfer suggestions please leave them here and I will take a look

The Toby Alderweireld Debacle

Gary Lineker was left fuming last night as Director of Football Joe Kinnear blocked his £8.75 million approach for Ajax center back Toby Alderweireld. Kinnear cited Alderweireld's poor fitness as reasoning for canceling the deal but ESPN can reveal there may be more to the story.
Kinnear's recent outburst to Sky Sports and some insider information from St James' Park lead us to believe that Kinnear pulled the plug out of spite.
This was Gary Lineker's first approach for a player as manager - and he went straight for a young semi-established Belgium international in Toby Alderweireld. Alderweireld was placed on the transfer list at Ajax after he handed in a transfer request and Newcastle fought off the likes of Arsenal and Milan for his signature on a £40k-per-week contract lasting until Jun 2016. This signalled intent, something power-crazy Kinnear couldn't handle. Kinnear canceled the deal claiming that a minor injury picked up just days earlier could jeopardize the deal, and so he pulled the plug.
Just hours after, and with Alderweireld unhappy at a club that would not play him after his transfer shenanigans, Lineker went straight to chairman Mike Ashley to try and salvage the deal.
Ashley agreed that if the two parties could agree on a deal now, that Alderweireld could spend one more season at Ajax, confirming his injury-free status and link up with Newcastle at the end of the season if he could pass his medical then. Alderweireld was so desperate just for a better European team that he agreed a cut price contract of only £21k-per-week.
When asked about the signing, Kinnear slyly stated, "He won't have the last laugh about this, now I am off for a kebab".

£25 million for Cabaye

Cabaye has been hot property at the moment, but manager Gary Lineker has attempted to put an end to speculation by slamming a £25 million price tag on arguably Newcastle's best player.
"It will take a large bid, maybe; something in the region on £25 million for him to leave. I have convinced him in a meeting to aid our quest for European football and will deliver on my promise with him at the club. Joe Kinnear thinks he can push me around, threaten me by forcing poor Yohan out - the dude doesn't even know his name! I have spoken with Mike Ashley and I have his full support on this matter, we both want this club to do well, not just win an argument.

The ability to pick out a pass is something long sought after for a manager like Gary Lineker. To build a world-beating flair squad you need a rock, an anchor; somebody to sit in the center of midfield and either lay a pass of the the wingers, play a lofted ball in for the center forward or even have a pop himself. Cabaye, with 16 caps for his country is hands down, Newcastle's best player of recent seasons. With a team build around him - this is his time to shine.
