Crash and Burn

I've been away for a while, mostly due to christmaspreparations, but I've spent some time playing without having the energy to write.

Shortly after my departure from Kosice I signed with dutch Juliper Leauge side RCK. We were an anticipated to team, but my inexperienced side had trouble finding it's rythem during the start of the season. Once we found it though we were amongst the strongest teams in the leauge. Halfway thorugh the season we were only 2 points shy of a play-off spot, when suddenly, after a not all to embarrasing loss, the board decided it was time to let me go...

Wellwell, it's not the first time it's happened and I got a feeling I'll land on my feet again!

Breaking new grounds

This time I thought I'd try to keep you up to speed. After being fierd from RCK I decided not to go for any second division-sides (with the Championship being the exception to confirm the rule). Not so long after the departure from Holland a long awaited offer dropped into the mailbox... one from South Africa! The big clubs have strong finances, much due to the great arenas left behind from the WC, but the lack of interest from foreign players to go there still makes it a challange to creat a winning side.

The team who came with the offer was Maritzburg United. They were an anticipated midtable-team (7/16), surprisingly they weren't far behind that prediction (12th) when I was appointed. Maby it's an omen of what to expect from the chairman... well, I'm not one to back away from high pressure situations!

Arriving late December I had a chanse to use the good finances to find myself som gems during the January-transferwindow, however I decided to only get players for the positions I really needed to cover (for exampel I only had one LB with a starrating above one gold star).

This is what my squad looks like a couple of months into the job:

I've decided to adopt a attackingfootball making our games pure shootouts were the form of both teams strikers more often than not becomes the deciding factor. It may sound crazy and desperate, but we usually don't allow more than 1 ccc for the opposition and creat at least 3 ourselves, so I think it's an interesting experiment to carry on with. Thus far it's not been great reslut-wise as I have a 5-4-2 record thus far (W-L-D), but as I said I think I may be on to something here.

Looking towards the end of the season my focus will be at developing the tactic as well as working on a transferplan for this summer are quite a few changes will have to be made for us to be a contender next year.

Until then, merry christmas and for the love of god comment and read!
Great story so far! I love the fact that you didn't start with a big club. It's more realistic that way. Also, can I ask you a question? How many leagues have you selected? Thank you. :)

Well as it seems right now I need to start winning more trophies in order for me to find a team I'd settle for, otherwise I just won't gain the rep needed to be picked up by a big club. I've got a feeling that if my favourite team Liverpool hierd me I'd have a hard time leaving willingly, but you never know, the whole point of the story was to move around a bit and look for diffrent challanges... though I have to admit it hasn't gone that well yet :P

you did a good job while managing kosic(or wtv the name was :P), it has been a fun ride, keep it up :D
well yes, to be honest it's the only job I've had thus far where I'm truly satesfied with my accomplishments... though I must say I've got a great feeling about next season here at Maritzburg!

Gathering the troops

For the first time ever I've had a proper wallet at my disposal for the transferwindow... boy did I enjoy it !!!

As I mentioned in a previous post, this was a highly anticipated transferwindow on my behalf... I'm very satesfied with the strength of my squad and the only thing I might be missing is a striker that can truly lead the team. However my current squad should be enough to prove a solid base for a top teir team.

The main focus this year will be to see if my cowboytactic truly works now that I've summoned a squad good enough to carry it out as planned. I've set the expectations to a tophalf finish, something that won't be a problem assuming that the team preforms.

Lastly a little message to Sporting_23 who is trying to make fun of the level I'm at, no hate at all bro, but make no misstake, there are som sick players around here. This is my star:

not trying to make fun mate, but as it is a low reputation team and unknown teams and places, for me its weird, but you are doing well and that regen of yours sure is sweet :)
sure, but I still view the South African leauge as a middleweight... by no means up there with the top 5, but fighting under there!
