Review

I don’t think I could have asked for a better pre-season. We won all our friendly games, including wins over Liverpool and Juventus. Pazzini has been on fire so far, and looks like he could challenge Balotelli for that starting place. We weren’t being clinical enough at the start of pre-season, but that improved as the summer went on. At one point we scored 13 in two games, and overall in pre-season we scored 24 goals in 7 games.

We also signed three very good youth prospects from abroad for a combined fee of £1.9m. Of course all three were foreign and don’t speak the language, so there may be some early worries, but I think they’ll be fine in the end. Maybe in January if the season isn’t going great we will need to start looking at players ready for the first team, but for now we’re fine.

Transfer Update

Mattia De Sciglio has joined Spanish side Espanyol on loan for the rest of the season. He wouldn’t get any game time at Milan this season, so it is good he has gone somewhere he’ll play. We aren’t being paid anything, but we do have a recall option if we need it.

Monthly Review

There isn’t much to comment on this month if I’m honest. We played one game, against Siena, where we grinded out a 3-2 win with a late goal. It was a pretty poor performance in truth, although Pazzini looked good when he came on, and in the end it is the result that matters, not the performance. We have been handed an easy Champions League group, and I expect us to win the group easily, with at least four wins.

We sit fourth, but after 1 game it is hardly relevant. Interestingly there was only one draw in the first round of matches in Serie A.

Seedorf’s Diary – Maldini The Greatest

Let me get something straight right from the start. Paulo Maldini is the greatest player I ever played with in my 20 year career. I played at some of the best clubs in Europe, with some of the best players of the time. But not one of them can surpass Maldini.

I played here for I Rossoneri for ten years, which is a very long time, and I loved every minute. That shows massive loyalty to stay at one club for ten years. Maldini played here for twenty-four years. That is nearly quarter of a century. That is the biggest sign of loyalty ever. I was lucky enough to play with Paulo for seven of my ten years at Milan, and what an honour it was to line up with such a legend. I will never forget it.

He played for Milan until he was 41, and it is a testament to how good he was, and how loved he was here that in his last season of his career, 2008-09, he played 30 league games for the club. That’s a great total for anyone playing outfield at a big club, but for someone at the age he was is fantastic. In all competitions throughout his career he played a massive 902 games, and won more than 25 trophies in his career.

His attitude as well was brilliant. He always fought for the win every game, for his entire career. You could scour the world of football now, and struggle to find many players like him. He’s a true legend of the club, and football in general. No one can deny that, and if they do they don’t know what they’re saying. Hopefully his two sons will be as big as him, as they’re both playing here for Milan.
