November's Goal of the Month
Medina finally won it!
Peruvian midfielder Miguel Medina win Dartford's Goal of the Month award for the first time since he joined the club in 2010. It was the 5th nomination for Dartford vice-captain and this time his strike from 30 yards out claimed an incredible 71% of the voices. It was against Chipstead in the 4-1 win in FA Trophy 3rd qualif. round.
The winner is Goal D
The Apurimac-born will receive is award on the 10th of December, just before the game against Dover, yet he is already with me for our traditional interview.
- Hi Miguel, congratulation on winning Goal of the Month.
- Hi Glenn, thanks.
- So finally. You win Goal of the Month, after being nominated 4 times without success was it something you were aiming to win?
- I won't say I dreamed every night about it but I'm always trying to win everything I can and it's always nice to being rewarded for a goal.
- The goal in question was a stunning strike against Chipstead. When you get the ball, you're 30 yard out and don't have many options, you can run into the box or try the long-range shoot. What was your vision of the situation?
- Before I received the ball from Tom [O'brien] I had decided to go straight in the box and try to create danger but I didn't expect his pass as he did. It was a hard ball to control and it forced to move toward the edge of the box. As I saw Hill was coming on me and I had no one to pass the ball to, I tried this shoot and, and I scored!
- The club will play Dover at the next round, do you think the team can go far in this competition? Did Alex fixed a objective?
- Yeah, we need to reach the second round. So winning against Dover is imperative, and as we got out early of the FA Cup, Alex will want us to go even further in the competition.
- Do you follow the Premier League?
- Yeah every week-end
- Since you came to England or did you already follow in Peru?
- I follow Premier League since the age of nine. In Peru it seen like the greatest league in the world.
- But how are seen the lower leagues?
- Nobody follow them. Premier League is the only thing that interest peoples.
- So you didn't know Dartford when you moved to England?
- Not at all, I didn't know the club. I didn't know the town. I didn't know they were my futur.
- Now you passed one year and a half in Dartford, what are your plans?
- Hum, we are doing well, I'm enjoying playing here and the team is really great. We also have some great fans, the home games I've played at Dartford were from far the best since I'm England. So yeah I would like continuing at Dartford, we have good project and we could be in Blue Square Bet Premier next seson
- Do you think we will win the league this season?
- Hum...yeah, we will!
- Thanks for speaking to us Miguel and good luck for the rest of the season.
- Thanks Glenn, bye.

I don't think Dartford have loads of journalist so I won't be changing for a while
November's Edition
The third edition of "Remember The Name", bring us down to Blue Square Bet South and to Boreham Wood. The team is currently 11 of the League, 4 points behind the 5th place. A lot of comments as been done on Boreham, telling that it was surprising to see them struggle in the league with so many talents in their squad, and the best one is surely their young Argentinean striker.
Marcelo Contreras, 22 years old, scored 7 goals this season. Five of them were winning goals and one other manage to bring one point to Wood!
Contreras joined Wood on free this summer after being released by Wigan, without an appearance in 3 years for them. "When I left Argentina for England and Wigan, I knew I was doing a big move. I was dreaming of Premier League, of Europe, of all that you see when you look at Premier League on Argentinean TV, told us Marcelo. But three years later I played only in reserves. I was benched something like three times in cup games but didn't come on, it was horrible.
Marcelo didn't receive a new contract and left at the end of the season. He was happy to leave Wigan but hoped he could have another chance in Premier League. "I shouldn't have gone to Wigan, when I joined them a lot of clubs in Spain, Germany, England, France were interested in me. Now everyone has forgotten about me and I didn't have a chance of staying at top level this season"
When asked if he regret leaving he regretted leaving his former Argentinean club, Club Atlético San Martín, he declared that he knew before going that his country, his town, his family and his club will missed him but he didn't regretted this decisions. "I always knew I made the right decision in joining Europe. The wrong decision was joining Wigan. I should never done this. It gave me hope just too break me now. I don't have enough money to move from England, my girlfriend left me when she knew I needed to move to Borehamwood, it was very hard for me. But I need to thanks Or, he is a great manager but also a great man. Now I'm back on track and fighting for Wood."
Marcelo Contreras seems to be enjoying football at Boreham Wood but if League football come back on is road he will take is chance. And several clubs are report to be interested in the talented South-American striker but the closest club to make a bid is told to be another Blue Square Bet South side, indeed league leaders Dartford have made this player their main target.
So remember the name and see you next month!

2013-04-27 22:06#95637 PaukerJ : Looks like Contreras is a good player. Why did Wigan leave him? Damnit
Lol, I invented his passed career so I don't think he was really at Wigan. As my game has only regens he clear all the history information excpect the cup and league palmares!
