Hello, and welcome back to another issue of FM Story Weekly. Yes, you guessed it, its pompeyblue returning once again to round-up all the best Football Manager stories on the site that didn’t qualify for a Story of the Month nomination. So, let’s get going with the round-up of the 22nd-27th July 2014.

This week’s featured stories:

Josh_MU’s Manchester United - The Dutch Revolution
fzemdegs’ Doing It Down Under!
Kippax’s A.S. Roma - Unico Grande Amore
brownymcfc’s Manchester City - Don't Look Back in Anger
ollyewest’s David Albelda: New Beginnings

#1. Manchester United - The Dutch Revolution

After leading Holland to a successful 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil, which resulted in a 3rd place finish in the tournament, experienced manager Louis van Gaal has joined Manchester United. Already having won many trophies in his career, the Dutchman will be looking to add the Premier League to the list, while rebuilding and transforming the team back into the giant they were under Sir Alex Ferguson. With Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera already signing, there will most likely be plenty more new faces joining too, as the Red Devils put behind them the season of misery under David Moyes and move onto a new era.

Josh_MU is well known for being a talented writer, with his stories never failing to impress. Although his latest venture with Manchester United, has only just begun, you can already tell from the quality of the updates that this is going to be another great read. Not only is his writing very immersive for the reader, it is detailed and his updates are always very neatly presented. His graphical work is good too, as can be seen with his lovely banner, and I am sure we will see plenty more of this in future updates. This story most definitely will be fighting for a SOTM title, sometime relatively soon, and personally I believe can become one of the best around.

#2. Doing It Down Under!

With Sean-Paul Lodovico in charge of the club now, Newcastle Jets are looking to go all the way. Become the greatest team in Australia, conquer all they face, and most importantly bring trophies to the club. Lots of them. With legend Emile Heskey leading the line fans are optimistic, but things haven’t quite gone to plan so far. The Jets sit in a disappointing 8th place in the A-League, a far cry from the success the club has ambitions for. With pressure on the man in charge and big bad Emile out for a couple of weeks, change is needed…..and quickly.

fzemdegs brings us his first ever FM14 story with Newcastle Jets his chosen club. Inspired by ‘trendsetter’ Walter, he has decided to use the exact same team and story title 2 FM editions in a row. So far, it’s been a good start too, with his presentation and graphics particularly impressing. It would be nice to see him go into a little more depth on some updates but this has still been a good read to date. Anyhow, considering it is his first story on this version of the game, I’m sure the story will continue to develop as it progresses and we will see the author himself get even better at writing too.

#3. A.S. Roma - Unico Grande Amore

With Rudi Garcia sadly stepping down as AS Roma manger due to ill health, a replacement was needed swiftly, to lead the club forward. Marco Delvecchio, a legend around Rome, was the man appointed with the aim of a return to Europe. The ex-striker has been quick to make changes in the transfer market too, already looking to make the dream a reality. Talents such as Roberto Pereyra and Alessio Cerci have made the move to the Giallorossi, and surely there will be more on their way too.

With a highly successful Roma story on the site courtesy of story writing legend Neal, Kippax has a hard task replicating a similar kind of success both on the save and with the story itself. It is still in early days, but is already looking like this could become relatively popular too. It is solid in virtually all aspects with the writing, content and presentation all fairly good however graphic use does let it down. As I mentioned, this story has a very solid base and foundations which the author can definitely work on and progress this into a good story indeed. It should be interesting to see what happens in the future, as I believe this is one to keep an eye out for.

#4. Manchester City – Don’t Look Back In Anger

After Roberto Mancini’s departure from the Etihad Stadium, many Manchester City fans were expecting an experienced manager with the knowhow of winning trophies, to take charge of the club. However, with a standstill in negotiations with Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini and favoured managerial option Jose Mourinho opting for a return to Stamford Bridge, City turned to pop icon Noel Gallagher in what was very much a hugely shocking appointment. The diehard City fan may seem inexperienced when it comes to managing a football club, but he hasn’t done a bad job so far, with City just coming off the back of a fantastic 3-0 triumph against Liverpool still early on in the season. The future looks bright for the blue side of Manchester.

After a long, long break brownymcfc is to continue his story with supported club Manchester City. Although there aren’t too many updates just yet, with Noel Gallagher just coming to the end of his second month in charge of the club, the presentation has been very good as has the writing. He makes very good use of BBCodes and screenshots, and in general the story has good content too. I would like to see him make use of some graphics, but maybe this just is not his speciality, nonetheless this is an aspect which could really enhance it. I will definitely be keeping an eye over this story in the future, as it definitely is good enough to challenge for SoTM sometime in the future.

#5. David Albelda: New Beginnings

Nobody would have seen this coming, David Albelda appointed as Calcio Catania’s new manager. Unacquainted with Italian football, having neither played nor managed in it and being unable to speak the language as well as being without any previous history as a manager, this was certainly a big risk taken by the board. But, it has proven to be one which has paid dividends after the end of Albeda’s first season in charge. The unbelievable, unpredictable actually happened. Catania won the Serie A title. Now, the question is…what next?

ollyewest may be a new member on the site, and a new story writer but he has already shown signs of potential in his updates so far. With him being a new member, his writing nor updates are by no means the finished article however that is the same with all new members and he will most definitely improve significantly as he becomes more accustomed to the familiarities of writing and the site itself. He has made a decent start in all honest with his writing a positive, but he does need to work on detail, aspects of presentation and graphic use to take it that level further. I wish him all the best, but knowing FM Scout as I do, it’s only a matter of time before his story does take flight.

So that is our round-up of FM Stories for this week. I hope that you enjoyed this and if your story was included take any feedback on board, as to how you can improve your technique. I am by no means saying I am a good story writer myself and instead am just offering some advice, so don’t take it badly if you feel against what I have said as remember it is not anyone else’s opinion it is just mine. We all enjoy reading these stories and plenty of others, as they are all good for their own reasons. Be sure to keep writing, working hard and your story will also be included in FMSW and maybe even might get a future Story of the Month nomination!
