Classic 4-4-2 Winning FM18 Tactic

I hadn't lost 6-0 in FM since FM16 in the third round of the FA Cup and so when I did in FM 18 away to Newcastle I decided something was wrong. It wasn't just the scoreline, it was the nature of the goals they scored, fast attacking through balls with knock downs between the two strikers for simple tap ins. I had become a fan of the computer. So i scouted them and picked the same 11 player roles and used a ruler to determine their mentality.



I replayed the same match as I was, hoping it was a fluke but secretly hoping to lose again and BINGO 5-1 to computer, five goals scored in the same way and great football. SO my mission began, i played them again and refused to continue the game until I had beaten them twice in a row with their own tactic.

The gap instantly went closer and then tweaks to player and team instructions finally mastered it. A 3-1 and a 2-1 victory meant I could continue on my way and two full seasons later two titles in the bag and a champions league.

The tactic uses The Tinkerman's 2015 corner tactic which seems to winning again this year so the rule is Left Back for left corners and Right Back for right corners which will be pulled back nicely for unmarked outside the box shots.

The only other rule is the Target Man - don't go worrying about finding a Crouch or Benteke here just a great striker will do with a bit of heading ability and the goals will flood in.

Season 1 - I changed mentality depending on the match so went for Control, Counter and a bit of Attacking but Season 2 I played Attacking every single game and reaped the rewards.

I play FM18 Touch (formally Classic) so everything is left to assistant manager and there are no OI s.
