FM 2018 Fantasy Scenarios - FM 2018 Competitions of Old: UEFA Revival 1.5
Hi all! Back for another season with my UEFA Revival project, with quite a list of updates from where I left off in Football Manager 2017.

INTRODUCTION

This is a project that I've been plugging away at, on and off, dating back to Football Manager 2013. It originally started out as a throwback to the 1999-2003 format of the UEFA Champions League which contained 2 group stages, and has since progressed into a full structure where I've managed to find room to bring back the UEFA Intertoto Cup & the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. New from the 6 options available last year, there are now 25 separate UEFA files so you can choose whether you'd like to use the UEFA Europa League, revert back to the UEFA Cup, reinstate the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, play a knockout-only version of the tournaments, or choose between 1 or 2 group stages in the UEFA Champions League. Plenty of choice for all.

Additionally, the AFC Champions League has been added as a separate option, and uses the same 2 group stage format as the UEFA Champions League. The AFC Cup also mirrors the UEFA Cup format of 5 teams playing 1 round of matches in the group stage.

**UPDATES**

13/05/2018

- Quick update to one file. Fixed a fate error which prevented the Champions League scheduling in the 2018/19 season
*UEFA Revival - Winners Recalled - Champions League & Europa League (1 Group)*

22/04/2018

- New files galore! 8 new files added to the project
- 2 files are a retro version of the UEFA Champions League (featuring domestic league champions only). 1 is a straight knockout format from the last 32, while the other contains a group stage for the final 8 teams (2 group winners face off in final)
NOTE: These 2 files contain qualifying rounds, one of which consists of a group stage, in order to accommodate all 54 nations in the competition rather than just the top 32 nations
- Additionally there are 6 new files which now allow for competition winners to automatically qualify for the Champions League & UEFA Cup/Europa League in the following season
NOTE: Champions League winners and UEFA Cup/Europa League winners qualify for the Champions League (differing stages), while the Cup Winners' Cup winner qualifies for the UEFA Cup/Europa League
- Amended the disciplinary rules for all files. Yellow card suspensions now occur after 5 bookings (and every 2 thereafter), as opposed to 2/3/4
- Corrected a fate error with the final 16 of the AFC Cup

04/01/2018

- Fixed a fate error in the Third Qualifying Round of the UEFA Champions League
*UEFA Cup & Champions League (Knockouts & Dropouts)*
- Added 7 new UEFA files to the project with a tweaked UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. The new CWC format features 2 qualifying rounds throughout July/August, in order to accommodate nations 33-54

11/12/2017

- Added a new format option to the project, which contains a knockout-only tournament for both the UEFA Cup & UEFA Champions League
NOTE: This still includes seeded rounds, teams dropping in to the UEFA Cup, and also includes the Intertoto Cup winner getting a UEFA Cup place
- Fixed the issue 100% where the UEFA Champions League won't progress any further than the Group Stage
*Europa League (1 Group Stage) & Champions League (1 Group Stage)*

07/12/2017

- Fixed the Team conditions so stage 4 of the UEFA Champions League will now grab the winners/runners-up of the Group Stage for the Round of 16
*Europa League (1 Group Stage) & Champions League (1 Group Stage)*
*Europa League (2 Group Stages) & Champions League (1 Group Stage)*

18/11/2017

- Added Kosovo to the UEFA rankings, taking the total up to 54 nations
- Added 3 new files, which allow for a 1 Group Stage version of the UEFA Champions League (These all contain the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup)
- Adjusted the UEFA Intertoto Cup fixture dates to avoid international matches in mid-June
- Adjusted UEFA Champions League fixture dates to avoid international matches in mid-November and late March
- Adjusted UEFA Europa League fixture dates to avoid international matches in mid-November and late March
- Adjusted UEFA Cup fixture dates to avoid international matches in mid-November and late March
- Adjusted UEFA Cup Winners' Cup fixture dates to avoid international matches in mid-November and late March
- Adjusted AFC Champions League fixture dates to avoid international matches in mid-November and late March
- Adjusted AFC Cup fixture dates to avoid international matches in mid-November and late March

**NOTES**

- If you are starting a new game and controlling a team that is competing in the UEFA Intertoto Cup, you will have to add France as a playable nation, as it allows you to start the game at June 12th.

- The nation rankings are slightly customized to allocate qualification spots, so a couple of teams have been moved up/down in the rankings for personal preference. You can always change the order in your editor ahead of starting a new game if you wish.

- *AVOID* activating Northern Ireland as a playable nation, unless you have a custom league structure for it. Their domestic playoffs have an issue when calling the correct teams and their season doesn't finish. As a result, no teams qualify for the UEFA competitions when the nation is activated and playable.

- If your game is displaying the default names for the competitions (i.e. Champions Cup or EURO VASE etc), try downloading the 'FM18 Real Names License Fix'.

@nijode999: The dates will need changed because they mess up in translation. I'll basically be changing them to dates that work around the new international fixtures throughout the season.
  • nijode999's avatar
Any idea of there is a version that would work already without changing dates. So that I can use one from FM 2018
  • Carlito_85's avatar
@nijode999: I'll be releasing all files together, but I'm hoping the only thing I'll need to do is correct the fixture dates once I've converted everything to the 2019 editor. Hopefully it shouldn't take too long to get through.
  • nijode999's avatar
@Carlito_85 so everything would be released after a few weeks. I play with this database because I hate the financial fair play. Is it also possible for example to release one file: Champions and Europa League 1 stages in a week?
  • Carlito_85's avatar
@phoenixc: Yeah I experienced the same problem, which is what caused me to start updating the fixture dates. It's something to do with the Netherlands end of season playoffs finishing too close to the season renewal date for the UEFA competitions.

To fix that issue, you can change the Intertoto renewal date to something like a week later than what it is (I forget the date I changed to but it worked). Just make sure your renewal date doesn't overlap with the first draw/fixture date. I think that's also why the Champions League won't be scheduling, so fixing that would require a restart unfortunately.
  • phoenixc's avatar
Meant to say I also noticed Barcelona got called into the inter toto cup after winning the champs league. From looking at other threads it could be the Netherlands issue
  • phoenixc's avatar
@Carlito_85 thanks for the reply and sorry to ask. Must drive you nuts now :) I'm not using Ireland but I do have Netherlands as a playable nation. It's the 1 group for champs league and Europa League version (54 nations) winners recalled one. Is there anything I can do my end? Such as remove Netherlands as a playable nation? Or will I need to restart. I'll finish the season and see if it resets next season
  • Carlito_85's avatar
@phoenixc: Thanks for the heads up.

Can you let me know which file it is you're using, whether or not Ireland and Netherlands are active, and if you're using any other custom files with mine? I'm in the process of trying to correct a few fixture dates right now so that could be of some help.

Hello @carlito_85. I have been running your file in my FM18 save and just started the third season. The first 2 seasons ran perfectly. However, started noticing problems at the start of season 3. The CL won't schedule for another year and the Europa League does not progress past the second qualifying round. Cup winners cup and inter toto are running ok. Not sure what caused it now 3 seasons in? I didn't add or remove any nations and I don't have Northern Ireland active. Sorry about this, just wanted to let you know because I am loving this otherwise :)

@nijode999: Yeah I've definitely got plans to release this for FM19.

However as seems to be the norm it may take me a few weeks once the game is released to get everything that I currently have for FM18 converted over properly, such as fixture dates etc.
  • nijode999's avatar
@Carlito_85 Are you planning to release for FM 19 and how long will it take
  • Carlito_85's avatar
    @phoenixc: Thanks a lot. Much appreciated :)

In order for this to work you will need to start a new save, yes.
  • phoenixc's avatar
Hello, This is amazing work :) just what I have been looking for. I was curious though. Do i need to start a new game for this to work? or can i add it to my current save?

@legendof88 No problem bud. Good to see you make the jump to FM18. You're more than welcome to use one of my files as a base.

I'm actually going to put a more detailed guide on each file for my next update, just to remove a bit of the confusion from the file names.

As for the dropouts question, yeah, dropouts just means Champions League teams will drop into the UEFA Cup.
  • legendof88's avatar
Hey Man, thanks for all your help on FM 16 file. I have however decided to upgrade it to FM 18, so what I am going to do is use on of your files as a starting point. Would that be an issue if I edited one of your files, in terms of it working?

Secondly, in regards to which of the 26 files to pick, likely going for "UEFA Revival - Winners Recalled - UEFA Cup & Champions League (Knockouts & Dropouts).fmf" by dropouts do you mean that if a team gets knockout first round of Champions League say for example then tey dropout into the UEFA Cup?
  • legendof88's avatar
Okay thanks, but I believe I have done that already, and still having the issue. I will DM to see if you can see where I went wrong.
  • Carlito_85's avatar
If you wanted to change it so that it works with your custom merged nations file, you'd have to reconfigure the eligible nations, and then the seeding process my file.

To do this you'd have to merge any nations you want to merge in my file so that they can be selected in the eligible nations. Following that you'd have to redo the seeding from scratch for each competition so that everything adds up mathematically.

It's definitely possible to do, just a bit time-consuming.
  • legendof88's avatar
or is this why you said you do the contential rules under the 'edited rules' option. Are you able to explain (ideally, with instructions) how you start the rules in this manor?
  • legendof88's avatar
Okay, so if that is the case is there a fix? And I am not if that necessary is it, as I have edited the competitions to only take from 32 nations and the competitions have been set take set amount teams from each nation. So there shouldnt be any blanks to fill.
  • Carlito_85's avatar
Oh ok I think I know what the problem is.

If you've merged nations together it'll result in teams missing, hence why Bayern etc get called into the competition.

If I remember right there are 54 nations involved in my UEFA Structure, so if you have less it'll start calling in teams from the top nations to fill in the blanks.
  • legendof88's avatar
Thanks for your reply and your offer for help, I really appreciate it as I am really stuck with this one. Okay, I will try a couple of your suggestions you made in your reply and test and see. If not I might DM for some more help.

Some of your points are interesting, this is a huge database ive merged a few nations together (e.g All Nordic Nation, Soviet Union, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia), so it is a bit muddled when it comes to European competition, however, ive tested the international competitions and they seem to be all working. Just seems this one issue from testing that is a concern.

But like I said will give your suggestions a try and will let you know how I go. Thanks again.
  • Carlito_85's avatar
@legendof88: The way I did it was I created my entire structure under the 'Edited Rules' option. This meant it overwrote the entire UEFA structure rather than merging with it and causing issues.

Additionally it requires quite a bit of testing to make sure the fixture dates are all placed correctly etc. Make sure to set all match priorities in each stage to 'Highest'.

Bayern may have been called in to replace a team from a nation that didn't get called into the competition. This could be down to seeding issues, round fates, which teams are called to the current round etc. It can be quite complex.

If you need any more in-depth help feel free to drop me a DM and I'll see what I can do.
  • legendof88's avatar
I have a question from the editing stand point. I did a version of this on FM 16, retained the Cup Winners Cup and created a Uefa Cup instead of a Europa League. What has happened though is some teams (e.g Bayern Munich) played in one season in both the Champions League and the Uefa Cup, why would something like that happen? How can you set it to make sure one team only qualifes for one competition?
  • Carlito_85's avatar
@Erwann: No need to worry about the "Unregistered" box. All you need to do is select your squad as normal for each game and it will automatically register them when you start the match day.

It's due to a recurring club registration glitch in the editor that this happens.
  • Erwann's avatar
Hey, My players can't play in the UEFA Champions league. (Except U21)
There is a red box with "NL" written. I can't register them for the game. Help me please
