Together Stronger - Welsh Fantasy Leagues

A Welsh born multi multi Billionaire Oil Tycoon has a dying wish to bring Welsh football up to the same standard as English. He has no family to pass his riches on to so he donates it all to the FAW for the purpose of fulfilling his wish.

The ball got rolling around 5 years ago when his cash injection was granted to provide every club in the new Welsh League system (to begin season 2016/17) with funds to improve facilities including state of the art upgrades to their stadiums. All completed for the first season of the new system.

Money was available to improve youth scouting and now to start this season every club has better squads full of fresh new players .

A big condition of this wish was that Swansea, Cardiff, Newport, Wrexham, Merthyr and Colwyn Bay all agreed to leave the English League to be a part of this. All agreed and 2016/17 will also be their first season in the Welsh League. Their conditions were that they be installed into the highest tier which was agreed.The only drawback was they had to leave their current squads behind to be eligible for the improvement grants.

The new 6 tier setup sees the Cymru Alliance Leagues and Southern Welsh League divisons merged, but keeping names and entries to not over complicate things.

As Welsh Industries are beginning to thrive and more houses are being built in Wales, the country is seeing a sharp rise in population. This with the recent successes of the national team and the excitement surrounding this investment, the interest is extremely high and games throughout the divisions are expected to be well attended. This should be sustainable as long as the league provides the excitement needed.

Big TV and Sponsorship deals have been able to ensure these teams have the funds to make their mark on the continental stage. Teams must represent well to make sure the continental spots increase over time.
