Custom Vertical Tiki-Taka
Formation:
4-3-3 (2 Central Midfielders, 1 Ball-Winner DM, 2 Inverted Forwards, 1 Advanced Forward)
Mentality
Balanced (switch to Positive or Attacking against weaker teams or when chasing a result, drop to Cautious or Defensive late in games when holding a lead)
In Possession
Shorter Passing: Encourage quick, controlled play.
Pass Into Space: Utilize runs from wide players and fullbacks.
Hit Early Crosses: Take advantage of fast transitions.
Low Crosses: Play balls across the box for attackers to run onto.
Run At Defence: Wingers and advanced roles take on defenders.
Focus Play Down The Right: Overload stronger side or exploit a weak fullback.
Higher Tempo: Fast movement, constant pressure.
Narrow: Maintain tight passing lanes, reduce turnovers.
In Transition
Counter-Press: Win the ball back immediately when lost.
Counter: Attack at pace as soon as possession is regained.
Out of Possession
Much Higher Defensive Line: Squeeze space, push opposition back.
High Press (Higher Line of Engagement): Aggressive closing down.
More Often Pressing: Relentless pressure off the ball.
Prevent Short GK Distribution: Don’t let the opposition build from the back.
Get Stuck In: Add bite, disrupt rhythm (beware of cards).
Player Roles & Key Instructions
GK – Sweeper Keeper (Support)
Distribute quickly to fullbacks or centre-backs to start attacks.
DR/DL – Full-Back (Attack/Support)
Support attacks, overlap wingers, cross early and low.
Attack duty if more aggressive; Support if more balanced.
DCs – Ball-Playing Defender (Defend)
Play simple passes, break lines when possible.
Stay composed under pressure, focus on recycling possession.
DM – Ball Winning Midfielder (Support)
Shield the back four, win second balls, initiate transitions.
Aggressive pressing, break up play.
CM (Right/Left) – Central Midfielder (Support)
Link defence and attack, arrive late in the box.
Right CM can be more creative, left CM more box-to-box or vice versa.
Tweak to Deep-Lying Playmaker/Mezzala if squad strengths suit.
AML/AMR – Inside Forward (Support)
Cut inside onto stronger foot, create overloads.
Take on defenders, look for killer balls or shots.
ST – Advanced Forward (Attack)
Stretch the defence, exploit space behind, lead the press.
Must be quick, good off the ball, and clinical.
Set Pieces
Use mixed corners and free kicks to avoid predictability.
Assign tall defenders as targets at near/far post.
IFs and FBs lurk outside the box for rebounds.
Key Principles
Vertical Passing: Get the ball forward quickly, but never hoof—always keep purpose in build-up.
Wide Overlaps: Fullbacks drive forward, providing width when IFs cut inside.
Central Overloads: DM and CMs create numbers in midfield, dominate possession.
Aggressive Press: Constantly harass the opposition, force errors and quick turnovers.
Why It Works for Back-to-Back Promotions
Adaptable: Tweak mentality, tempo, and press intensity for each league as you rise.
Stable Core: Three midfielders and two BPDs create a strong spine.
Attack from All Angles: IFs and fullbacks give both width and cutting edge.
Defensive Solidity: DM shields against counters, pressing limits opposition time.
Extra Tips
Training: Focus on Team Cohesion, Attacking Movement, and Defensive Shape weekly.
Squad Rotation: Use all five subs; maintain high fitness, especially during promotion pushes.
Transfers: Prioritize athletic fullbacks, technical midfielders, and a fast, hard-working striker.
