It is not a possession-based tactic; since it is an emulation, it is based on fast, vertical play, with the three attacking players ready to strike quickly, just as Lippi’s Juventus often did. That year, Juventus won the Scudetto and reached the Champions League final, which they lost on penalties against Milan.
I tested this formation in my first year at Roma in the 2030/2031 season (coming off a fourth-place finish in the previous season), winning the league with 93 points and scoring an impressive 106 goals. In the Champions League, we were knocked out only in the quarter-finals, losing to Bayern Munich, while we won the Coppa Italia by thrashing Juventus 5–0 in the final. We lost the Italian Super Cup against Inter.
I also made a video with all the goals scored and the results from the title-winning league campaign—enjoy watching!
