Well done on winning the title and good update as well.
AaronHJFT96:Thank you very much. I am a little ahead of the story so I have been itching to share the good news!

Walter: Thank you very much. Let’s hope we can defend it next season.

Thank you. It will be an even bigger achievement if we retain it but it will be a tough challenge!

A Summer of Change...

I have to admit that the summer transfer window has got to be my favourite element of this game. I love coming to the end of the season and trying to become a wheeler and dealer or make that marquee signing who will win us every competition we take part in, by himself! I enjoy rebuilding a squad, no matter how successful they were the season prior in order to ensure continued success. I do feel that we overachieved last season and were fortunate to come away with the Premier League title, considering the gulf in quality between ourselves and others around us. This meant that while sticking to my principles of not paying overinflated wages, that the team was going to need to some new additions with some less than adequate players being shown the exit down.

Players Shown the Exit Door...

Thomas Carroll was never happy the moment I joined the club. His dispute was never with me but instead was with the previous manager, Tony Pullis. When I took over the club, Carroll felt it necessary to continue to long going feud he had with the club over game time. I had every intention of playing him, game in game out, until he decided to just bitch and moan at every opportunity. Eventually he found himself playing for the under 21 side on a regular basis and this lead to him not wishing to engage in conversation, which could have resulted in any differences being settled. The club had signed him for £2.7 million and in the four years he played for the club, he contributed very little. The club did have to suffer a loss as I took the decision to mutually terminate his contract, which he of course jumped at. He is now plying his trade at Norwich City and as of right now, he has not been registered in their Premier League squad.

Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is a tough one for me to get my head around. He hadn’t had the best of times before I joined the club with his performances being below par on a regular basis. With Jerome Sinclair taking the sole striker position in my team it was always going to be difficult for him to get on any kind of scoring streak, which would have made me reconsider not letting him go. He did go through a great period where everything he did was brilliant and he did get himself six goals come the end of the season. However, with Sinclair being in great form and with me looking to bring in another striker, there is no place for him at the club. He has since been given a free transfer and given £63k in compensation. He is unfortunately still without a club but does have a few interested in obtaining his services.

Nicolas Gaitain was another player who couldn’t get into the squad. With the introduction of Jack Grealish, his preferred left winger position was constantly taken up. This is just common sense though. Grealish is an unbelievable player who needs to continually have game time if he is going to continue to make the progress he is capable of. Gaitain, unlike Carroll, never moaned but instead seemed to understand that he wasn’t part of my plans. Instead he left the club on good terms and is now playing in his home country of Argentina for Arsenal De Sarandi. Miralem Pjanic has since left the club for £3.4 million and headed to Olympiakos. He wasn’t given much of a run in the team but instead his attacking midfielder position was taken up by Suso, who in turn has also left the club. Suso joined on a free transfer and we had gone against my principles and paid him over the top wages. This was having a crippling affect on the wage bill, which resulted in Suso being allowed to leave for his home country of Spain (for £3milion profit) where he now plays for Sevilla F.C., SAD.

The only departure I am gutted about is that of Mark O’Hara. Mark is fantastic young full back who, only at 25, has many great years ahead of him. Unfortunately, just like Thomas Carroll, he had fallen out with the previous manager and didn’t seem to want to sit down and resolve his issues. Once a bid came in and it was rejected, any chance of having a discussion about his future at Newcastle United went out the window; he simply wasn’t interested. O’Hara was frustrated at the lack of playing time, which is strange as he walked away with 22 appearances under his belt. He just wasn’t going to be pleased unless he moved club. He has since moved to Celtic for a fee of £5million. He is going to be difficult to replace but fortunately I already have some targets lined up.
awesome update james, thomas Carroll is a tough one, he becomes very good usually and very industrious great update though :)

He just became a pain in the arse to be honest. Not sad to see him leave and already found replacements :)

Continued Change...

With a number of players leaving the club and with pre-season fast approach, I felt it necessary to delve into the transfer market in order to sign replacements. Despite the club possessing excellent training facilities, the junior coaching side of the club is average. This means that the club is still yet to see any players come through the youth system with any real potential of breaking into the first team. I would quite happily play youngsters in my first team, even in big games, if they were up to the challenge but unfortunately they are not. This has caused concern for me as the chairman, David Evans, has come across as just as stingy as Mike Ashley was back in the day. This led me to believe that funds would not be made available for any transfer dealings.

Despite having made the club a reasonable £11.38 million from selling players, the board only inject forty percent of any sales back into the transfer and wage budget. This would be of greater concern if it hadn’t been for our success last season. Due to us winning the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history, the board decided to inject a reasonable amount of money into the kitty for me to spend under no restrictions...just what any manager wants to hear!

First port of call was to provide decent backup for Jerome Sinclair who was outstanding last season. Ricky Van Wolfswinkel has left the club and Alexandr Kokorin has never filled me with confidence when playing in the striker position despite scoring some important goals last season. This led me to Christos Mantalos. Signed for £2.3 million he boasts the potential of becoming a four star rated player and a leading striker for any Premier League club. I am confident he can achieve this as he will receive game time to Sinclair’s tendency to have an inconsistent period later in the season.

In order to fill the gap left by the moody Thomas Carroll, Tiziano Tulissi has been brought in for maybe the over inflated price of £16.5 million from Paris Saint-Germain. Tulissi had never broken into their first team squad but instead had spent a lot of time at Sampdoria on loan and he had a very successful time at Ajax. He has great ability and even better potential. I can see him slotting into the attacking midfielder role and not only providing goals but also scoring them.

I have rarely reached the point in save where I have to sign regen players; I have usually got bored of the save. This means that I am heading into the unknown. Marcelo has had four brilliant seasons for Castilla and has shown good potential. He has however been brought into the club under false pretences. He believes he will be getting game time on a regular basis but I can only promise him to be back up to the more experienced and better Tomas Kalas. This may cause issues between Marcelo and the club but having only signed him for £1.5 million, I am confident I could move him on for a profit.

Ibrahim Aurier has been brought in to provide solid back up for Jamaal Lascelles and Marcus Berglund who did start to tire towards the end of last season. After overcoming difficulties with his work permit, he has signed for us for £3.8 million. With him only being 21, and having signed a 5 year contract, he is with us for the foreseeable future. He will get game time and not just in cup competitions. Lascelles is my number one centre back and I will look to rotate Berglund and Aurier when it is needed. I am confident Aurier will prosper in a few seasons to come and I am looking forward to witnessing it.

Alexey Volkov may be another regen that I have paid over the odds for. However, last season we lacked backup players for the central midfielder positions. John Lundstram (now vice-captain) came in and did a great job but Suso spent a lot of the season injured and Thomas Carroll just wasn’t interested. The addition of Volkov now means the club boasts at least four central midfielders to choose from to fill two available positions. This provides good backup if we suffer injuries, which Volkov already has, and can still look to control the midfield which I like to do. In total £33.99 million has been spent on strengthening the squad and has left us with little money left in the budget. This means that unless I feel the need to add any more players the squad for the upcoming season is below:

Tulissi!!! My favorite wonderkid on this game and you bought him :') Such a good player!
WOW someone as stingy as Ashley. Also good signings particularly Tulussi and Mantalos and the write up is very detailed.
AaronHJFT96:He looks like he is going to be a great player. Already made a great start in pre-season!

cfcmarkt:I am very happy with the signings we have made and don't feel like we need improve anywhere else this season. I like stories with detail, hence mine being written like it is.

Hopes and Ambitions...

Pre-season is usually the part of the season that I am not interested in. I have previously seen it as a tedious part of the season, where my focus has wanted to be on transfer dealings as this is a much enjoyable element of the game in my opinion. However, for some reason during this save, pre-season has become of greater interest to me as I have wanted to support the club in embedding new players I have decided to bring in as well as trying out new formations and tactics. In previous saves I have left all of this, including training, to my assistant manager. I have done this in order to speed up the save to the first day of the actual league season. This save has been different though with me continuing to take the reins of the club and be in charge for the pre-season matches as well as choosing the training regime. This has been very beneficial with me getting a better insight into how the new players are gelling into the squad as well as sparking ideas about changes that could be made to help the club get better and better.

A training camp in U.S.A formed the basis for our pre-season, followed by a trip to Greece for two away games against Adana D.S. and Veroia. Both these sides didn’t put up much competition but instead gave my players the chance to show what they can offer the club this coming season. Nobody did this more than new signing Tiziano Tulissi who helped himself to four goals against Adana D.S. and racked up a performance rating of 9.9 (I’m not sure what else he could have done to have earned a 10.0 rating.) Yes it was against ‘lesser’ opposition but he really did prove that money had been well spent and that he was heading into the new season with confidence. This is something he is going to have to find and maintain quickly if he is going to perform at this level against ‘bigger’ and ‘more reputable’ clubs. I do have full belief in him and I can’t wait to see how he does.

Pre-season was finished off in great fashion with my second trophy with the club being added to the recently opened cabinet. It was a confident performance with who are possibly going to be our three main threats this season getting on the score sheet; Jack Grealish, Tiziano and Zeli Ismail. With these three players sat behind either Jerome Sinclair or Christos Mantalos, I can see us heading into any game with the confidence of out-scoring any opponent. As long as we remain responsible at the back and embed new players such as Marcelo and Ibrahim Aurier, then I can see us being a real force again this season and surprise many a footballer followers.

Player of Pre-Season – Tiziano Tulissi

Tulissi looks like a great signing! And although I hate to say it, you have a very strong squad :s
Looks pretty good, (Tulissi), and the signings + the pre-season.
ZapdosTheGreat:He has the potential to be an amazing midfielder and I think he will do well in the attacking midfielder position also. Can't wait to unleash him on the Premier League and Champions League.

Pauker:It is all going pretty well :)
