Gabilondo to Retire

Igor Gabilondo has confirmed that he will retire once the season comes to an end. The 35 year-old left-winger has played at Racing for the past 2 seasons, which includes an impressive 67 official appearances, with much more to add. The former Athletic Bilbao player has also been a pivotal player in his stay at El Sardinero, as he has scored 31 goals, whilst assisting a further 20, an impressive statistic for a veteran.

Igor Gabilondo

Soon to Retire: The left-winger has been impressive during his stay at Racing.

Igor Gabilondo said,”I didn’t want to wait until the end of the season, because there was a possibility of Racing not renewing my contract. Even though I do have that 25 or more matches extension clause, I feel that now is the best time.” Gabilondo continued by saying,”Hopefully I can stay at the club in the staff capacity. Myself and Raul will speak about it, especially because my family and I are more than comfortable at Santander.”

With a further 19 matches to go in the Liga Adelante, Gabilondo will be hoping to add more appearances and more goals at his stay at Racing. Racing’s last match of the season will be at El Sardinero, on June 7th, 2014.

Shame to see him retire! He's been great for you!
He's been a great servant to the club!
@Josh: He's surprised me with such contribution he has made, just an all-round incredible player.

@Walter: ^, what a great player, on and off the pitch :P

Some good results there Pauks! Unlucky loss against Sociedad... (GOD DAMN YOU NEAL -.-)
Some fantastic results but some unlucky as well. It was a shame you couldn't go further in the Copa del Rey but you played a tough team. All seems to be going good in the league. Good update Pauks bae
Flying on top of the table, keep it up mate :D
Some good results their and a couple of disappointing one's too but you are top of the league still which is great!
Very unlucky against Sociedad though, but you can go and beat them next year in La Liga ;)
@Josh: YH, fk u neal

@Jack: Thanks mate, I was this close to getting to the semi's!

@Walter: Hell yeah B)

@Pompeyblue: January is always a tough time.
You've got to be confused by those results. A confident win away to Sevilla, but a loss at home to Las Palmas? Either way you're still doing great, unfortunately not in the cup though :/ Bloody penalties >.<
@Rablador: Injuries and my first-team starters were tired for the Las Palmas match, which is why Imoh Ezekiel started (change of tactic, to one with a striker). About the Sociedad match, as soon the 120 minutes were off, I knew we were going to lose. We had awful penalty takers, and I had already subbed out the best ones. Either way, it was a great way to show that we are no push-overs, whatsoever.
Hehe Real Sociedad ;)
@Neal: Fk u, k?
