@Aaron and @joe: Thank you very much guys! And Joe, I hope we can get promotion this year, not going to look for a title victory though, we kinda got lucky last season

Valdes: "I Almost Joined Rochdale"

Victor Valdes recently claimed that he was offered a contract to play at Rochdale AFC. The former Barcelona and Spain shot-stopper was released from his Barcelona contract at the end of last season and high-flying Justin Credible reportedly sent three representives of Rochdale AFC to Spain to open contract negotiations. However, Valdes -- who currently plays for FK Austria Wien -- and Rochdale, failed to come to terms and the visit to Spain was fruitless.

Justin Credible and David Beckham on the other hand however, have quashed all rumours that Victor Valdes was even a target for Rochdale and they were "perfectly happy" with the goalkeepers that they have. Video evidence suggests that three men 'representing' Rochdale (also known as the Three Musketeers) visited the home of Victor Valdes in order to push through the move but failed to do so. The identities of these three men remain anonymous, but Credible has stressed that he would like to know who these men were so he could "show 'em who's the boss around here".

@NVDTahir I have to admit I have enjoyed reading your story. I particularly like that for the first two years you have done links on the very first post. This made navigating your story very quick, easy, and enjoyable, and I would love to see this brought back in for ease of following your story.

I also would like to mention that personally I preferred your style and layout for the first two years than what has been used more recently. For me the earlier format was very clear, gave a great insight of the two months of game time, with the added flair for the special games, such as your Cup game against Cardiff. I find that the new format doesn't seem to capture and draw me into the story as well.

Overall though, I am thoroughly enjoying reading your story.

August Update

Surprisingly enough, we are doing well above expectations once again in the Championship (only second due to goal difference), although I am still expecting us to go down against teams like Blackburn, West Ham etc, which may get us ending up further down the league table:

Transfers

IN

OUT

Shocking news. Ashley Eastham was sold to Rangers in Scotland for a huge fee of £875k, which was too good to turn down. He was a rock in our defence last season after I gave him the chance to shine, but sadly we needed the money for younger players. He will be sorely missed. Bastien Héry and Vitalijs Maksimenko were loaned out to other clubs on a short-term basis due to being informed that they might not get as playing time as they did in previous seasons.

It has been an amazing month so far this month, but we've still had our ups and downs:

Rochdale AFC 0-1 Wolverhampton (H)

Sky Bet Championship

Kevin Doyle (59')

Grant Hall (Wolverhampton)

Match Review
This game was a very poor opener into uncharted territory, with us being favourites to win against an injury-strucken Wolverhampton Wanderers side at Spotland. Despite this, we found ourselves on the end of a 1-0 defeat which sent us straight to 19th on the league table.

Rochdale AFC 2-0 Northampton (H)

Capital One Cup 1st Round

Reece Brown (7')
Scott Hogan (88')

Nigel Marples (Northampton)

Match Review
Reece Brown sent us off to a flyer in the 7th minute with a stunning header from outside the box to give us the lead against old foe Northampton, and Scott Hogan ensured they sunk with a late effort from inside the penalty area. A good, solid victory overall which was expected of them, but the quality of possession was kinda poor throughout the game.

MK Dons 0-1 Rochdale AFC (A)

Sky Bet Championship

Matthew Lund (pen) (33')

Dean Lewington (MK Dons)

Match Review
We were slight favourites against fellow promotioners MK Dons, and we narrowly edged it through a Matthew Lund penalty.

Rochdale AFC 2-0 Charlton Athletic (H)

Sky Bet Championship

Scott Hogan (83')
Brian Graham (90+4')

Brian Graham (Rochdale)

Match Review
An intensive 2-0 victory over favourites Charlton, who were outplayed by my new 4-4-2 tactic. They had expected my usual formation, but we changed it and caught them completely off guard, and it's nice to take home three points in front of our own fans.

Rochdale AFC 1-0 Millwall (H)

Sky Bet Championship

Scott Hogan (9')

Nadjim Abdou (Millwall)

Match Review
This is a game where I can safely say we were the luckiest team ever. They didn't have their two main keepers due to injury, and also were missing their main striker, so it was their third pick keeper who made a poor clearance which allowed Scott Hogan to pounce and score. Needless to say we then protected this unexpected lead by changing our style of play to retaining possession.

Rochdale AFC 1-3 Cardiff (H)

Capital One Cup 2nd Round

Brian Graham (18')
Gary Mackay-Steven (30')
Andreas Cornelius (48')
Joe Mason (81')

Andreas Cornelius (Rochdale)

Match Review
We were finally put in our places by Cardiff whom we had sumptuously beaten 4-1 last season on the same ground. We were leading 1-0 until then 30th minute when complacency caught up to us and we blew our chances of progressing further in this cup which is a shame really, but it gives us more time to focus on our main priorities which is to achieve a top-half finish in the Championship. However, this did not stop our fans from chanting "4-1" to the Cardiff stands... something which I really appreciate.

Blackpool 2-3 Rochdale AFC (A)

Sky Bet Championship

Scott Hogan (14')
Korey Smith (22')
Esteban Lopez (45+1')
Steven Poole (58')
Jamie Murphy (65')

Esteban Lopez (Rochdale AFC)

Match Review
We completely outclassed Blackpool at Bloomfield Road 3-2. We took the lead through yet another early Scott Hogan goal, but they equalised in the 22nd minute. We again took the lead just before half-time via an Esteban Lopez volley, and then Steven Poole added another. Blackpool got a glimmer of hope when they scored soon after in the 65th minute, but I quickly changed my tactics to retain possesion and we didn't concede anymore. This is my best win yet this season.

Player of the Month

Scoring 4 goals in 7 appearances in the league, Scott Hogan is set to shine in the third league since I joined the club (the first two being League 2 and League 1, in which he was the top scorer both times). He currently has an average rating of 6.94 in the past 5 games so far.

Here are the fixtures for next month:

We're doing really well up until now, and I hope Lady Luck shines once more so it stays this way.
