Seedorf To Give Youngsters A Chance
New manager Clarence Seedorf has told journalists that younger players will be given chances in the first team, and that no one can rest on their laurels. The Dutch icon also revealed his new Head of Youth Development, Luiz Fernando Moraes.
The likes of Gegê, Octavio and Jeferson will all get their chances in the first team, according to Dutch legend Seedorf. He also warned senior and youth players today, saying they could not afford to become complacent on the training field.
"The match day squad will be picked by the players training performance," Seedorf, 37, just said. "If someone doesn't put in, they won't get the reward. I am looking for hard working players as well as technically able ones."
To help recruit and develop players into the Botafogo first team, the player-manager brought in Luiz Fernando Moraes, who will be given the role of Head of Youth Development. His contract reportedly lasts until 2016.
"[Moraes] is very good with youngsters. As well as being able to spot talent, he can nurture it," said Seedorf. "He will have the freedom to develop these players into athletes we can work with for years to come."
In other news, the Rio club also announced two extra friendlies for preseason. The club will play Bangu and São Cristovão on the 2nd and 6th of January. This is said to give the youngsters a chance to impress and also help the local clubs in Rio de Janeiro.
