Jónsson wins football elections
16 May 2014

Yesterday the football department of the club held their presidental elections. This year it was between the incumbent Almar Guðmundsson and long time supporter Ingvar Jónsson. He won on a wide margin with 65% of the votes going for him. Jónsson won on the platform of keeping everything ran as it is and not to make outlandish promises.

I thank everyone for voting me in and I promise to help continue the club grow."- Ingvar Jónsson

Jónsson also stated that there are no plans to provide the club with any investment at this stage. As part of the change in leadership, a bank loan of $330K has been taken out with pre-existing debts and aid the day-to-day running of the club.

The first home match of the 2014 Úrvalsdeild is this upcoming Sunday when the club takes on Fylkir. New President Jónsson will be unveiled at half time.
May
After the disappointing end to the Deildabikar we were now ready to take on the league. Before everything started I gave the boys a few days off to rest before the season starts. On May first everyone returned and practice was continued. Overall it was a good month with just one little bump in the road. We played a total of four matches against various clubs and this is how it went down................

Valur 2-7 Stjarnan
My my my I could not ask for a better start to the season. Yes they are not the best team but i was really pleased with the way the club played. Everything from teamwork to discipline was 100%. Befre the match I gave the guys five goals for the match and they were able to pass each and every one. The man of the match was Veigar Páll Gunnarsson with four goals.

Stjarnan 2-2 Flykir
Matchday two was our first home match of the season and the fans could not be happier. It was also the first day for our new club president so it was an interesting day. This match was not what we wanted but I will still take the points. A 2-2 draw was not bad but for such an important day it sucked. Gunnarsson was our hero again, this match he scored the only two goals for the team.

Fjölnir 0-4 Stjarnan
Matchday three was a great day as we traveled to play Fjölnir. It was a pretty easy game like the scoreline indicates. Having a clean sheet rally made my day. Garðar Jóhannsson was the man of the match as he netted in two goals. It was a great game for the 34 year old, crazy that he still can be this productive at this age. Oh Gunnarsson scored again.

Stjarnan 1-2 ÍBV
In matchday four we finally got beat after three great games. ÍBV was a tough team to play. I give my boys credit for the 90 and am not too upset, they worked hard and kept going by never giving up. It was sad to see them score both goals in the second half but that happens. Gunnarsson was the only scorer for us giving him 8 goals in the month.

Bikarkeppni Fourth Round Draw

(Write up of the third round will be in the June update)
Struggling to keep up with all your stories :)
Just kidding, this is going fantastic. Your updates are very detailed and well written. Also, you have had some great results!

@ Pompey thanks!! It gets bad from here lol
June
Ended last month with a loss and started this month with a loss. What can I say it was not the best month but I will still sort of take it. Out of the five league matches we went 2-1-2. Lots of problems and I can not quite figure out why our performance dropped significantly. probably the brightest spot was our win in the Bikarkeppni. Gunnarsson is once again named our man of the month.

Stjarnan 2-3 Fram
Matchday five was not what I wanted. Seeing us drop a very easy game was super frustrating. We worked hard but it was not hard enough. I told the guys that they needed to change something since two loses in a row is a no no for me.

Þróttur 2-4 Stjarnan(Bikarkeppni)
Our first match in the 2014 Bikarkeppi was a very delightful one. Even though they are a 1. deild club I told the guys not to underestimate them. Even though this was only a cup match I was pleased to get a win. A few days later we drew 1. deild club Haukar in the fourth round. In the two previous meetings we won both with a total scoreline of 8-3.

Keflavík 3-4 Stjarnan
Matchday six gave us another win in the league. This was the hardest fought victory so far. Thanks to Ólafur Karl Finsen's goal in the 85th minute we were able to take back the lead and get a crucial victory. No telling how angry I would be after the scored three unanswered goals on us.

Vikingur 2-0 Stjarnan
.
Matchday seven was a disaster. Where the hell was everyone at?? No other comments.

FH 2-2 Stjarnan
.
Matchday eight was another so so result for the club. Honestly at this point I am starting to panic due to a bad string of results. What was worse was that we could have had three points if it wasn't for our defense giving up an easy goal in the 83rd. At this point two draws and three loses is not good. I do not want to be stuck in the mid table especially after telling everyone we would win the league. Hopefully this result is just the start to a better year.

Stjarnan 4-2 Þór Akureyri
.
matchday nine was the final match for June. Boy am I glad that was over. A 4-2 victory was what I really was looking for and they delivered. Halldor orrii björnsson was the main player of the match due to his two goals. The best part about the win was it was at home and it felt good to be back after four straight away matches. I can't wait for July.

You should organize a team-meeting, to raise the morale, and ask them what the heck is going. Hopefully by the end of the season you'll get top spot! Good luck!

Letter from the president

Dear, Stjarnan

Hope all is going well for everyone. This is my first letter for you all and I hope you will enjoy. I will be talking about a few things including a new uniform supplier for all of our clubs sports, a welcoming to a few new players and a few other items that will be interest.

A few days ago American Company Under Armour and Stjarnan agreed to a five year deal for all sport clubs under the Stjarnan name. We will not be wearing Under Armour until the offseason but our basketball and handball clubs will start waeing them for their 2014-15 seasons. This will be a grand opportunity to get exposure for the club. As of right now we are in the process of getting UA to make authentic uniforms available for purchase.

Next on the agenda is to welcome a few players to the team. They all arrived on the first day of the window on the 15th. The first person we signed was GK Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson from KR, he is the son of ex Iceland international and current KR manager Rúnar Kristinsson. Next we signed free agent defender Hroar Sigurdsson. Before being released Hroar played for KR.

The final thing I would like to discuss is the rumors about a disagreement between me and Gunnar. A few media sources said our relationship is not working out and he wants to quit That is absolutely not true. At first when I was elected we did have some differences but nothing too bad. Things have changed for the better and we are now working together. Currently I am on the verge of giving him a contract extension sometime by the end of the year.

Thank you,
Ingvar Jónsson

Stjarnan return to final after two goal comeback!!

Stjarnan's match against Fram will have been a meaningful one for Haukur Baldvinnsson as he was able to celebrate a victory over his former club. "It was a great feeling playing them and winning"-Haukur Baldvinnsson

Stjarnan captain Daniel Laxdal gave the stars the lead with an incisive finish from 14 meters in the 20th minute. Experienced striker Garðar Jóhannsson doubled Stjarnan's lead with a shot witch was assisted by the post in the 35th minute.

Almarr Ormarsson pulled one back for Fram after 50 with a powerful shot. Later on Garðar Jóhannsson added his second goal of the game with a beautiful header from point blank in the 77th minute.

It was looking like a Stjarnan victory until Fram's Hólmbert Friðjónsson gave Fram supporters a glimmer of hope. He scored a header one minute later in the 78th. Stjarnan supporters were in hock and even manager Gunnar Stahl could not believe it. It went from bad to worse for Stjarnan as Fram's Alen Sutej then equalized in the 85th minute from close range.

At this point the stadium became quiet as a comeback was going on. Both sides could not believe what was happening. It is the end of regulation, the score is tied at three to three, what would happen in extratime? Could Fram mount a massive comeback and shock Stjarnan leaving the fans distraught? Find out below!!

A minute into extratime Fram's Halldór Hermann Jónsson gave Fram the lead with a beautiful goal that seemed to fake out the Stjarnan keeper. Now the score was 3-4, was Fram about to score more??? You could see Stahl start flipping out as he threw the gatoraide cooler and smashed a clip board.

Later on midfielder Ólafur Karl Finsen scored the game tying goal in the 9th minute with a placed shot. Finally Jóhannsson would complete his hatrick in the 98th minute with a well timed close range finish. This would be the final goal in the match leading to a Stjarnan victory.

With the 5-4 victory over Fram, Stjarnan will now be in their third straight final. During their last two trips they lost to KR in 2012 and Fram in last years. They have never won the competition and are looking to win their first this year. Stjarnan faced Þróttur (4-2),Haukar (3-1), KR (5-4) and Fram (e5-4) to advance to the final. They will be playing ÍBV

For ÍBV this will be their first appearence int he final since 2000 when they lost to ÍA. Unlike Stjarnan they have won the competion a few times (1968,1969,1972,1998 and 1981). Their path to the final goes like this, ÍH (4-1), Þór Akureyri (e2-1),Njarðvík (4-2) and KA (2-1)

The final will be played at the Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavik on Saturday 16th August 2014.

BOXSCORE
5-4 in extra time, what a match :O

July
Things looked really good after the end of last month, I was hoping that we would keep the run going on. I was totally right about that. With both league and cup competitions we went 6-2-0. A few stumbling blocks but honestly no big deal. As of right now we are fourth place with a match behind due to the cup. Speaking about that towards the end of the month we played three straight cup matches and won, now we are onto the final!!! There will be no report on the three cup matches since I just wrote about it in the previous post. Also there are two more months to go.

Stjarnan 4-0 Breiðablik
Matchday ten was a good one to kick the month off. A 4-0 victory is a great way to kick off the month. Garðar Jóhannsson was our main man as he scored two goals.

Stjarnan 2-2 KR
Matchday eleven, we hosted one of the biggest clubs in the country is never an easy task. We drew 2-2 and i am not too upset at that since KR is second. Garðar Jóhannsson scored again. Also recent signing Jean Stephane Yao Yao scored his first goal. For that we have him the game ball.

Stjarnan 4-3 Valur
Matchday twelve saw us win again. So far this is our fifth straight game without a loss. If you ask me what my opinion was about the game it would not have been good at all. Honestly we are so lucky to have Garðar Jóhannsson on this club because without him we could have lost. He scored another two.

Stjarnan 2-2 Fjölnir
.
Matchday thirteen was the final match for the July 2014 edition of the Úrvalsdeild. We had the pleasure of meeting recently promoted and last years 1. deild champions Fjölnir. This match saw me destroy a clipboard, we were so damn lucky to survive. Honestly giving up two goals in the second half is a no no here at Stjarnan. Jóhannsson and Gunnarsson were our two goal scorers.

Prelude to the final
8/8/14

This match between Stjarnan and ÍBV would be highly watched by football fans here in Iceland, the reason this is a warmup match for the two before the 2014 Bikarkeppni Final. The two clubs were held to a draw in an extremely close and hard fought match.

Striker Aziz Kemba gave ÍBV the lead with a well placed shot in the 19th minute. Later on former England NT and Portsmouth goalkeeper had a moment he will quickly want to forget. It around the 24th minute when he contrived to put the ball into his own net.

Winger Haukur Baldvinsson then put Stjarnan in front after 48 minute with a nasty looking chip over the keeper from about 25 meters. For ÍBV midfielder Gunnar Þorsteinsson scored a supurb long range strike during the 58th minute. This would be the final goal of the match.

After the match both sides seemed pretty pleased and they look ready for their cup final in a week. On the 11th Stjarnan will travel to face Keflavík and on the 10th ÍBV will play host to Fram.
