Adam Lallana named as new England captain

The FA and Roy Hodgson have appointed Adam Lallana as the new England captain for the upcoming Euro 2016 campaign.

The Southampton captain will be replacing the recently retired Steven Gerrard as the new England captain because the attacking midfielder possesses 'incredible leadership qualities' according to Roy Hodgson, in which he quoted in a recent press conference concerning Adam Lallana's new captaincy role.

Lallana revealed that he was 'lost for words' when the news broke that he'd become the new England captain, and the Southampton star man has said that he 'can't wait to get started' and hopes that' the team will perform like they did in Brazil for the World Cup'.

Lallana has been one of Hodgson's key players throughout the World Cup and the Euro 2016 qualifying stages, scoring 6 goals in 21 appearances, but also getting a very good 11 assists in his time as a current England player, and a former England great David Beckham has backed Lallana to become 'one of the best players ever seen in an England shirt'.

Lallana has been very important to Southampton, getting 7 goals and 4 assists in 20 appearances this current domestic season.

Lallana's first game as England captain will be against Finland who are battling for a qualification place and are currently 2nd in group, however Lallana has said that England will 'be able to defeat Finland if we play with enough passion and quality like we have done throughout our qualification campaign'

Wayne Rooney has also been appointed assistant captain but the Manchester United legend is already considering retirement, however the striker is only 30 years old and the media have criticized the striker for considering retirement 'too early'.
Nice choice! Lallana is a player i've always admired!
For some reason he reminds me a lot of Arsene Wenger in the top picture :/

England finish qualification stages on a high

http://whatculture.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/hodg.jpg

England finished off their remaining qualification games on a high as they defeated Finland, Slovenia, San Marino and Lithuania to finish top of their group.

After defeating Greece, England had qualified for Euro 2016, but they still had a few more games to play to determine where they'd finish in Group B, and Hodgson's men did not lie down as they defeated all of their opponents to finish 1st in Group B.

Finland 0 - 2 England

Goals from Arsenal's Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere ensured a vital three points for England against second placed Finland at the Olympiastadion in Helsinki.

Theo Walcott got the first goal within 45 seconds when Theo Walcott showed just how fast he is as he accelerated past Lampi at right full-back and had enough time to measure up his shot before placing it past Hradecky to make it 1-0 England.

Pukki had a great chance before the break but he couldn't keep his shot down after he was sent through but the forward took little care and swung his foot right underneath the ball and it was sent all the way into row Z.

Wilshere got England's second goal after half-time as he was involved in a great passing move starting from Steven Caulker from the back and moving it all the way forward to Danny Welbeck, who slid the ball past the Finish defence for Wilshere to chip the ball over the goalkeeper and make it 2-0 England.

Finland tried to respond but couldn't find a goal and the match eventually finished 2-0 to England which gives them huge hope on finishing in top spot come the end of the qualification stages.

Player of the Match

Jack Wilshere

The England midfield was very sharp throughout the game and ultimately got England's second goal to finish off Finland. He was calm and composed in midfield and made a few good attacking moves whilst being solid defensively.

England 2 - 0 Slovenia

A Daniel Sturridge master-class helped England get another three points to almost cement top spot in Group B.

Phil Jones was able to put England in-front after getting the ball from Jordan Henderson and striking it sweetly from 15 yards into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 England just before half-time after a few good chances had been wasted.

Slovenia had a free-kick before half-time and almost levelled but Joe Hart was able to push away Krhin's dipping effort to maintain England's 1-0 lead going into half-time.

Then Daniel Sturridge scored an absolute beauty as he moved the ball past a couple of defenders and struck the ball 30 yards from goal which flew right past Handanovic and give England a two goal lead going into the closing stages of the game.

England held on two secure a good 2-0 victory and keep their winning streak going with two more games to play against San Marino and Lithuania which on paper both look like comfortable victories for Hodgson's men.

Player of the Match

Daniel Sturridge

The Liverpool forward was perhaps England's most key player as he held up play well and scored a truly spectacular goal to help England get yet another three points in Group B. His work-rate was second to none as he tracked back when needed to help out his midfield.

San Marino 0 - 4 England

A brace from Danny Welbeck and new England captain Adam Lallana ensured that England would finish in first place against San Marino.

Danny Welbeck scored the first goal as he weaved past the whole of the San Marino defence and was one-on-one with Simoncini and the Manchester United striker added another goal to his record as he slid the ball beneath the keeper to make it 1-0 England.

Adam Lallana then got the second three minutes after Welbeck as he linked up nicely with Phil Jones before powering the ball straight into the top corner from 20 yards out to give the attacking midfielder his first goal as captain.

In the second half Lallana got his second from a free-kick from 25 yards out, and the Southampton star man curled the ball around the wall and into the back of the net to give England a three goal lead against San Marino.

And Danny Welbeck finished the job for England as he was played onside by Albani, went round Simoncini and tapped the ball into the middle of the empty net to finish the game with England winning but 4 goals to nil.

Player of the Match

Adam Lallana

The England captain was the key to winning as he scored a brace and helped set up Welbeck's second goal. Lallana was very calm in midfield and passed the ball to his team-mates very accurately and defended well when needed.

Lithuania 0 - 3 England

Two goals from Theo Walcott ensured England winning every single game in Group B after he cruised past Lithuania 3-0.

Theo Walcott got the first goal within 2 minutes as he ran through on goal after poor defending from Lithuania and simply placed the ball to Karcemarkas's left to make it 1-0 England and give Hodgson's men a huge lift.

Lithuania continued to struggle but they had a chance when Sirgedas had enough space to take a shot but Joe Hart had it covered and easily palmed the shot away towards Leighton Baines who played it towards his back four.

Baines then got England's second before half-time as Wilshere touched the ball forward towards the advancing Baines and the Everton left-back smashed it across the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 England.

Then Walcott finished off Lithuania in the second half as he headed the ball into the back of the net from a Lallana cross to make it 3-0 England and for England to break a record with the most wins recorded in a qualification group.

Player of the Match

Theo Walcott

The Arsenal winger scored two goals and did some exceptional work on the right for his country, dribbling past countless players and drilling in some delightful crosses. He tracked back well and helped out his full-back to mark a great performance for England.

As I mentioned before, I will do my best to carry on, but it'll be a big ask due to important events coming up in my life. I'll say it again, I'm sorry if this does have to stop, as much as I don't want it to stop, it will have to at some point.

TAT

Yep you're right. Lallana is a great player who has really hit form for me. It made sense to make him our new captain due to his experience of being a captain at Southampton and he always has a positive attitude. :)

Neal

Haha I see what you mean xD:

Justice

Yeah, we've been on a roll! And as you said, we've been keeping a lot of clean sheets which is very encouraging. :)

England draw easy group for Euro 2016

Roy Hodgson's England have drawn a relatively easy Euro 2016 group on paper, with Croatia being the biggest threat in their group.

After a successful qualifying campaign, Roy Hodgson and a few England players headed out to France to discover what kind of group they would have come the start of Euro 2016, with the hope of an easy group to help them progress quicker, and that's just what they got:

England were lucky and missed out on some of the 'bigger' teams like Germany and Spain, however Croatia will not be a simple task for Hodgson's men and they will need to perform to their very best to beat Croatia in their group.

Croatia have some very good individuals, such as Real Madrid's Luka Modric and Liverpool's Ivan Rakitic, but also the emergence of Mateo Kovacic, who can really help Croatia mount a firm challenge of coming first in Group E.

Mateo Kovacic has been very impressive for Inter Milan, scoring 4 goals and getting 9 assists in 26 appearances.

England will also be facing Bulgaria and Norway who on paper look like instant wins for England, however both teams did very well to qualify for the tournament and will prove to be no pushovers when England or Croatia lock horns with them.

It will be interesting to see what kind of team Roy Hodgson selects, however it will prove to be a very tough task with the amount of English players making that vital break-through and giving Hodgson more selection issues similar to what he had calling up the World Cup squad.
Looks like quite an easy group! :)

Yep, but looks can be deceiving. ;)

Hodgson announces Euro 2016 England squad

Roy Hodgson has announced his 23 man squad to compete in France for Euro 2016, with one surprise inclusion within the team.

Hodgson had selection headaches when selecting his World Cup squad, and will now have a migraine with the amount of English talent available to him for his Euro 2016 squad selection. Hodgson picked the right squad for Brazil, can he do the same for France?

Goalkeepers

Alex McCarthy - Joe Hart - Jack Butland

Hodgson has decided to once again opt for Joe Hart to be his number one goalkeeper, however this time Alex McCarthy replaces John Ruddy, Jack Butland retains his place from the World Cup squad.

Defenders

Nathaniel Clyne - John Stones - Luke Shaw - Phil Jones - Phil Jagielka - Gary Cahill - Steven Caulker - Leighton Baines

Hodgson has called upon the services of Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka and Steven Caulker again for centre half, and has called up John Stones after an impressive qualification campaign. Clyne replaces the injured Kyle Walker and Luke Shaw earns another call-up after performing well in the league for Southampton.

Midfielders

Michael Carrick - Jordan Henderson - Ross Barkley - James Ward-Prowse - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - Nick Powell - Adam Lallana - Raheem Sterling - Theo Walcott

Hodgson named a couple of experienced heads in the England midfield with Michael Carrick and Theo Walcott getting the nod. Jordan Henderson continues to get picked after a remarkable World Cup, Sterling, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ward-Prowse all receive another call-up and there is a first call-up and a possible debut for Manchester United wonderkid Nick Powell, who has really made an impression this season.

Strikers

Daniel Sturridge - Wayne Rooney - Danny Welbeck

Hodgson names the same strikers who were so impressive in Brazil, with Wayne Rooney retaining his place after being left out of some qualifiers. Daniel Sturridge has been struggling for goals lately but Hodgson believes his finishing and pace can really help win games. Danny Welbeck gets another call-up after scoring the most goals out of any player in the qualification campaign.
