Carra Not Impressed By Luton Forward

Luton Town's Moussa Dembelé was runner-up to Arsenal's Fernando Umaña in last year's Barclays Premier League Golden Boot award, as Dembelé's 24 goals was beaten by the winning 26 goal tally. Dembelé has continued his goalscoring form in to this season by scoring three goals in his side's opening three games, however, Sky Sports' football analyst Jamie Carragher does not think that the French striker is a force to be reckoned with, despite Dembelé scoring 37 goals in all competitions for Luton Town last season.

Jamie Carragher: "Moussa Dembelé has an impressive scoring record but I don't think that it is spectacular. If you look at his shot conversion rate from last season, you wouldn't be all too impressed with Dembelé. Yes, he scored thirty-seven goals in all competitions last season but I think that he got so many chances created for him by Luton's outstanding midfield that his goal tally was quite flattering on him.

Luton's midfield which consists of Morgan, Meyer, Emerson, Simonov, Shelvey, Pearson, creates so many chances for Dembelé every game. Despite getting quality chances handed to him on a plate, he misses incredibly at times. I think that if Luton had a striker of a higher quality, they would be scoring maybe fifty goals a season with the quality of supply. I'm not being bad on Dembelé as I think he's a pretty good player but I don't think that he is the top-class goalscorer which every team needs to compete for the major trophies."

It was not just Dembelé's shot-conversion which Carragher had an opinion on, as he described the Hatter's all-round play.

"If you look back at some of Luton's former strikers like Daniel Sturridge and Angel Correa, they all contributed more to the team than goals. Now you look at Dembelé and he doesn't do much for the team. He doesn't get involved in the general play, he doesn't assist many goals, he doesn't close down defenders. I think he's a very limited striker and while he does score goals, he doesn't score enough and he doesn't contribute much else to the team either. In my opinion, Ryan Ferguson should look to bring in a quality striker who is closer to an all-round striker. If he can bring in a great striker who ticks all the boxes, Luton could be scoring maybe twenty or thirty more goals each season."
