van Gaal praises Welbeck after sublime first month

New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has praised forward Danny Welbeck after a great start to the season.

With Robin van Persie injured in pre-season, United fans were worried that missing their star striker will deprive them of goals, but van Gaal gave English forward Danny Welbeck a chance to impress and the academy graduate showed just how lethal he can be in the Reds first Premier League game against Burnley, scoring all four goals.

Welbeck won the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month award for his showing against Burnley and van Gaal spoke highly about the pacey striker who has had his fair share of stick since moving up from the academy to the first team, with many fans suggesting that Welbeck is 'no where near Manchester United standard' but van Gaal believed in him and he has hit form right away.

"Danny is a great player and he showed that to the World against Burnley. He has proved to me what he can do and when Robin returns from injury, it will give me even more selection headaches as we have some talented attackers here. Danny has done himself proud and I hope he channels these good performances to even better ones for the remainder of the season".

Hernandez may get even less game time as Welbeck has hit form, with the Mexican linked to a move to Inter Milan

Welbeck's good form may also give England manager Roy Hodgson some thinking to do over his Euro 2016 qualifying team as there are now many young talented English players who are hitting form at the right team for their domestic clubs, and with some of the older players now declining or losing fitness, Welbeck may be a front runner for Hodgson's new England team.

van Gaal's praise should motivate Welbeck to perform even better in the next few months to give him more of a shout when van Persie returns from injury, but United fans and coaches will love it even more if Welbeck carries on scoring and helps United regain the Premier League title from rivals Manchester City.
Aww, I like Chicharito but it's gonna be hard to drop Danny because of his form!
Lol you know it's a game when Welbeck is scoring ;)

Couldn't have said that better myself :P

@Walt: Yeah, I like him too but his wages are pretty high.

@Neal: Ahaha agreed. ;)

@Joshie: Look at my response above.

@Pauks: Lel indeed.

Giggs: "van Persie may return earlier than expected"

Assistant manager Ryan Giggs has told MUTV that star striker Robin van Persie may return from injury earlier than expected.

The former United player and club legend has been monitoring van Persie's injury and believes that it's not as bad as first expected, with the player returning a month earlier if he gets back up to full fitness. van Persie has been working hard in training according to Giggs after picking up a horrid injury playing for Holland.

van Persie was a vital part of van Gaal's Holland side who finished third in Brazil and the experienced Dutch manager will undoubtedly start van Persie up front whenever he is available to start, fuelling yet more speculation to Mexican Javier Hernandez leaving the club as his playtime is going to be even more limited with van Persie returning sooner than expected.

van Gaal will have even more selection issues now with van Persie almost fit enough to come back, as Danny Welbeck had a great start to the season but van Persie and Rooney have built a great partnership leading the line for United as shown two seasons ago when United won their final title under Sir Alex Ferguson.

van Persie and Rooney had one of the most lethal partnerships in the 2012/13 season for Manchester United.

Giggs said the following about van Persie's injury on MUTV:

"Robin is progressing better than expected in all honesty. He sustained a broken foot during his World Cup duty but after assessing him in different aspects of fitness training, he seems to be much more fitter than he was a couple of days ago and he could even be back a month earlier if all goes to plan."

With United sat top of the table after the first month of the 2014/15 season, you would think that if van Persie does return earlier than predicted, United could well regain the Premier League title from rivals Manchester City due to the goal threat of their attacking players, and under van Gaal's new tactical system, they become the threat they were just two seasons ago.
Ooh, Welbeck, Chicharito now RvP?! You've got a big problem my friend :))
Good to see RVP coming back, but also awesome to see Welbeck playing well :)) Welbeck is my boy
@Walt: I have indeed. Chica needs to step his game up though.

@Tyler: Yeah, RvP is vital. Welbz is dat guy.
