Pre-Season

After a long few weeks off, both players and staff return to their clubs for the start of what possibly is some of the most painful weeks of their career, pre-season. This pre-season is an important one for Manchester United, as Louis van Gaal starts his reign as Manchester United manager in these many games before the season begins. United will start their pre-season with an intra-squad friendly against their under 21's, followed by CSKA, AZ, Sheffield United, Colorado, Columbus Crew, Seattle Sounders, Barcelona and AEK.

Game 1: Man United vs Man United U21's

Manchester United secured a routine 4-2 victory over their under 21's, with Danny Welbeck scoring the goal of the game. Wayne Rooney got the first goal of the match as he muscled Michael Keane off the ball and comfortably slotted the ball to the right past Perkins to make it 1-0. Young forward James Wilson however scored the equaliser just before half time, curling the ball past David de Gea after Smalling gave the ball away cheaply to the young English forward. Then Danny Welbeck came up with a bit of magic as he volleyed the ball from a Rafael cross up and over Perkins to put the senior team back in-front. Wayne Rooney then made it 3-1 as he headed in after a basic corner routine which the under 21's failed to deal with. However, two minutes later Bebe found himself in some space and passed the ball under de Gea to give the under 21's a shout going into the final few minutes. However, Danny Welbeck rounded off the game slotting in after a slick passing move lead by Ander Herrera. A decent but expected win from Louis van Gaal's side.

Game 2: CSKA vs Man United

The Red Devil's then travelled to Russia to face a good CSKA team who were certainly no pushovers. United were the dominate side throughout but the absence of van Persie hit them hard after many chances were wasted in the final third. CSKA caused the defence hardly any problems which led for a wasteful and dull game, with the result being the right one come the end of the match.

Game 3: AZ vs Man United

United then made their way to Holland to face Louis van Gaal's former club, AZ. Wayne Rooney scored another goal in this pre-season as he left the defender for dead and accurately finished past Esteban to give United a early but deserved lead. Then attacking full-back Rafael made it 2-0 after he ran the length of the pitch and cut the ball back to Hernandez, who waited for the Brazilian to run past him into the box and cushioned the ball through to the full back who finished like an accomplished striker. Wayne Rooney got his second and United's third as he smashed the ball towards Esteban's near post and the keeper wasn't strong enough to keep it from reaching the back of the net. AZ pulled a goal back after sloppy defending from United's back three allowed Teun Antonio to slot the ball past de Gea however it was only a consolation as United secured a good 3-1 victory.

Game 4: Sheffield United vs Man United

Louis van Gaal's men then arrived back in England to face League 1 side Sheffield United. United fielded a weaker team than usual, with some younger players like James Wilson and Reece James coming in. It was also the debuts of Paul Pogba, Daley Blind and Stefan de Vrij. The only goal of the game came when Pogba combined well with Blind and found Welbeck in an advanced position, who comfortably brought the ball down onto his right foot and tucked it away past Long in the Sheffield goal. United should have scored more but a win is a win.

Game 5: Colorado vs Man United

Manchester United then started their first of three games in America with a visit to Colorado. Flamboyant play-maker Juan Mata took the lead for United after he found himself with a good few yards of space and expertly pinpointed his shot into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0. Rafael soon made it 2-0 as again the Colorado players gave the full back lots of space to cut inside and curl a shot past Mace in between the sticks to double United's lead. Hernandez made it 3-0 three minutes later as the Mexican scored a usual poachers finish, gambling on Mace's mistake allowing for an easy finish. Welbeck added more misery to the Colorado fans as he beat the offside trap and calmly chipped the ball over Mace to show just how good United have been attacking wise. Maurice O'Connor managed to sneak a goal in after de Gea was caught off his line allowing the defensive midfielder to take a shot at goal which somehow ended up in the back of the net. A very dominant performance from LVG's men.

Game 6: Columbus vs Man United

United faced Columbus next in what was a very disappointing game. Like the CSKA match, van Gaal's men dominated the whole game from start to finish but they just couldn't get the ball into the back of the net. They defended well however which is really the only positive on a very poor and boring game in America.

Game 7: Seattle vs Man United

United's final game in America saw them face Seattle Sounders in which they dominated throughout. Wayne Rooney once again got the first goal of the game, combining well with Valencia on the right before firing low into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. Seattle then had more men behind the ball making it difficult for the United attackers to play through but later on in the second half, Mata found Welbeck who had enough space to turn and shoot into the top right corner to almost seal the win. Welbeck got his second and United's third and final goal after he used his pace to run through the Seattle defence and made finishing look easy as he confidently dinked the ball over the keeper to round off a very good win for Louis van Gaal's side.

Game 8: Man United vs Barcelona

The Red Devils were back at home this time to face Spanish giants, Barcelona, who also had Luis Suarez out through a ban, still fielded a strong team with the likes of Messi and Neymar. United took first blood as Welbeck's shot deflected heavily off new signing Inigo Martinez and fooled Claudio Bravo in between the sticks for Barcelona. Then later in the second half, United won a corner which Mata swung in towards the back post and Jonny Evans was able to cushion the ball back into the centre where Chris Smalling attacked the ball and watched it nestle into the net, United were playing like they did under Sir Alex Ferguson! Barcelona gave United a late scare as Neymar dribbled past Rafael and played it to Rafinha who curled the ball past de Gea but United held out for a memorable win at Old Trafford.

Game 9: AEK vs Man United

And finally the reds travelled to Greece to face AEK. Most of the first team were on international duty allowing van Gaal to bring many of his younger players into the first team squad to evaluate them better. Young fullback Reece James took the lead for United after he continued a lengthy run and put together a sublime finish right into the bottom corner of the AEK goal. Davide Petrucci got the second and final goal after he had enough space to sort out his angles and fire into the bottom right corner, rounding off a good display from the youngsters in Greece.

Conceding 2 to your Under 21's Josh, not lookin' good :))

Fans rejoice as Cleverley is finally sold

A day of joy has come to the red side of Manchester as Tom Cleverley has left the club for AS Monaco, who had a 5.5 million pound offer accepted for the midfielder.

They say playing for Manchester United is a dream come true for any footballer player, but for Tom Cleverley, it's been quite the opposite as the England midfielder has had more than his fair share of abuse whilst playing for The Red Devils, hence why he was delighted to move to AS Monaco to have a fresh start in his career.

Cleverley, 24, has told the media that he is delighted to have moved to Monaco as the club is 'going places'. The Ligue 1 club had a 5.5 million offer accepted in the early hours and Cleverley snatched the chance with both hands and immediately accepted his contract offer as it was 'too good to turn down'.

United fans have expressed their delight after hearing the news that Cleverley left the club stating that it was the right decision to sell him even for just 5.5 million. van Gaal left no comment on the sale of the 24 year old but many other media outlets suggest that van Gaal was 'less than impressed' with the midfielder after pre-season.

But how will Van Gaal get his team playing well without the Spanish style of Cleverley?!
What? y u do dis van Gaal?
Why get rid of the midfield maestro that is Tom Cleverly? :(
