Van Gaal proud of his team
Having secured the premiership title with games to spare this season Van Gaal today revealed how proud he is of his players and their effort this season:
"It is very easy for players to lose faith after a difficult couple of seasons but my mission here was very clear; get Manchester United back into Champions League football again. Given time to do it I had plans to challenge next season but as this one progressed it became clear that the players had other ideas... and who am I to put the brakes on such emthusiasm."
Having strengthened the squad in key areas during the summer, a couple of key signings in January seemed to have made the difference and pushed United over the line to victory. Boateng proved to be a rock at the back while Cavani provided competition for strikers which seemed to push them onto greater things. One things for sure, Manchester United can only get stronger with the increased revenue the Champions League will provide:
"Now we have taken the title back from our neighbours it is my intention to stop this leap frogging of handing the trophy over each year, many disheartened fans have been lifted by the performances this season and it is my aim to keep that good run going. Bring on Europe...
