PARMA CONFIRM TWO NEW SIGNINGS

10 July 2018

________________________________________
- Nicolo Cherubin and Lazaros Christodopoulos arrive from Bologna and Hellas Verona
- Experienced defender, Cherubin signs deal until June 2020
- Greek midfielder Christodopoulos signs 3 year deal until June 2021

Parma have today confirmed their latest acquisitions to their squad as former Bologna defender Nicolo Cherubin and Hellas Verona midfielder Lazaros Christodopoulos arrived at the Ennio Tardini ahead of the upcoming season. Cherubin, a central defender arrives at the club from Parma’s rivals Bologna, and is expected to replace Fabiano Santacroce in the squad whilst Christodopoulos has been signed as the most experienced midfielder in Paolo Vanoli’s squad and it is hoped he will add some calm and leadership to Parma’s midfield in the clubs upcoming Serie A campaign. Manager Paolo Vanoli is believed to be extremely happy at the signing of the two, with the manager addressing a problem area for Parma in last season’s Serie B campaign.

Cherubin joins the squad bringing plenty of Serie A experience with him, having previously played for Bologna, Atalanta and further down the line Reggina. Having replaced Fabiano Santacroce as the most experienced defender in the squad, Cherubin claimed he was hoping for a fresh start at the Ennio Tardini. ”It’s been a difficult few years at Bologna, but for me Paolo Vanoli has shown a lot of faith in me by signing me after I was released, and this is a brand new chance for me to go and prove myself and show the fans what I can do. I want to establish myself here and under Vanoli I think I’ll get that chance and I’ll be able to help the team have a very good campaign.”

Parma assistant manager Alessandro Lucarelli spoke about the defender at his unveiling, claiming ”Nicolo is a very good player, who perhaps hasn’t done too well at Bologna. However we’ve bought him in here too play a part in the teams campaign and if he starts the campaign as first choice then he will have shown me and Paolo that he is good enough to be a starting player for this team in what is going to be a difficult campaign. His experience is great and will serve this team extremely well over the course of the 38 games we’ll play this season.”

Meanwhile, 37 times capped Greek midfielder Lazaros Christodopoulos arrives from Hellas Verona as extra quality to Parma’s midfield. After failed attempts to sign Riccardo Montolivo and Victor Faizulin, manager Paolo Vanoli moved swiftly to sign the midfielder after being impressed by the 31 year old when Parma met his former side Hellas Verona in Serie B last year. ”Lazaros was extremely impressive when we met Verona last year in Serie B and for me he was a standout player, even if the team on the whole had a dreadful campaign. He is happy to be here and to have someone with his level of experience here is brilliant and hopefully he can help move this club forward and to have a successful year in Serie A this year.”

Christodopoulos himself took to social media to express his happiness after completing his transfer to the Ennio Tardini. ”This is a club that has had a brilliant rise over the last couple of years. They’ve gone from Serie D to Serie A in four seasons and to be a part of this great unit is going to be thoroughly enjoyable for me. Hopefully I’ll fit right in and we can go on to progress and have a very good campaign this season.”

29 GOAL FORWARD AND YOUNG DEFENDER COMPLETE ENNIO TARDINI MOVES

26 July 2018

Marcello Trotta scored 29 goals for Frosinone last year whilst Lucas Martinez Quarta impressed in River Plate’s Copa Libertadores campaign.
________________________________________
- Marcello Trotta and Lucas Martinez Quarta complete moves to Ennio Tardini
- Trotta who scored 29 goals for Frosinone last year signs for around £1.5 million
- Lucas Martinez Quarta, the second South American prodigy to make switch to European football with Parma

Marcello Trotta and Lucas Martinez Quarta have today completed their transfers to the Ennio Tardini, from Frosinone Calcio and River Plate respectively. Last season, Trotta scored 29 goals for Frosinone as the side just missed out on promotion to Serie A, losing out to Chievo in the Serie B play off final, whilst Lucas Martinez Quarta is one of the highest rated central defenders to come out of Argentina for a while, with his pace a key attribute. Parma fans are believed to be extremely excited by the signings of both players with many confident that Trotta can make the step up to Serie A this year and continue his fine goalscoring form. They also hope that Martinez Quarta can become a defensive stalwart for the club over the next few years, or potentially earn Parma a huge amount of profit if Parma choose to sell in a few years time.

Trotta was the top goalscorer in Serie B last year and at the time, Paolo Vanoli claimed that he wished he had the forward at Parma. He moved quickly to sign the player amongst interest from the more recently successful Torino, claiming ”Marcello was a target for us, just because of how many goals he can score. We knew of Torino’s interest in him so we had to act fast to make sure he was wearing the yellow and blue of Parma and we pulled it off. He is still only 25 so he has plenty of development still to come and hopefully he can continue his fine form from last year on into our Serie A campaign this year.”

Trotta, who has previously played for Sampdoria, Avellino and Fulham as well as Frosinone claimed he was delighted to be playing his football at the biggest club he has been at. They are the biggest club I’ve ever been at and of course the pressure is on me to replicate my form for Parma that I had last year. However I know I can do it, I have every belief in my ability and once the first goal goes in, hopefully it will be the first of many.”

Lucas Martinez Quarta, who has previously spent time on loan at Braga and Academica in Portugal, is one of the highest rated defenders in Argentina and it is predicted that the defender, who has six caps for Argentina’s under 20 side, has a big future ahead of him at the Ennio Tardini. He is also expected to be Parma’s last summer signing as manager Paolo Vanoli has moved quickly to sign his targets. ”Lucas is a fantastic prospect. He is very highly rated so I felt it was important to make sure that as soon as we registered our interest in him, that we made him a Parma player as quickly as possible. He has got brilliant attributes for a defender of his age and for me is only going to get better and better.”

The defender was also very happy to have signed on the dotted line for Parma. ”This is a great club with a lot of tradition and I am overwhelmed by the reaction to my transfer and I would just like to thank the fans. They’ve been amazing and hopefully I can repay them with some good performances on the pitch. I can’t wait to get started, it’s a club with loads of history and hopefully I can help it to write the next chapter.”

A few fantastic signings for the club, big season ahead!

PARMA RELEASE SQUAD DETAILS

09 August 2018

________________________________________
- Paolo Vanoli releases squad details for upcoming Serie A season
- Parma allowed to register 25 players
- Players under the age of 20 at the beginning of the year don’t need to be registered

Parma manager Paolo Vanoli has today released his squad information ahead of the upcoming 2018/2019 season with Parma registering 18 players. The club is allowed to register a maximum of 25 players, however the clubs manager has taken the decision to only confirm the places of 18 names, with 7 players who are under the age of 21 being left unregistered, leaving place in the squad for any signings the manager will make between now and the end of the season. Taking into account Parma’s squad the media predictions for this seasons Serie A have Parma finishing bottom of the table, with odds of 2000-1 of winning the title, however Parma will be confident of upsetting the odds and securing their place in Serie A for next season.

When asked about his squad, Paolo Vanoli was very forthcoming with his praise. ”I think I’ve got a really good squad here. We had a great bunch of lads on the whole of last year and it was important that we stuck with them so as not to disrupt the team spirit but to also make sure we made the right additions. There’s still time to make more if it is necessary but I think we’ve made the right additions to this team and I am confident of having a good season.”

Vanoli was also very confident ahead of the upcoming season, which starts on the 25th August with a trip to the Juventus Stadium to meet the reigning Champions. ”We’ve got a tough start to the season of course. Juventus are a world class side and they’re going to have another top class season for me and will most likely challenge for the title again. They’ll give us a very tough game but I still believe we have a good chance of getting something. Even if we don’t though we all feel in this squad that we are good enough to survive and avoid relegation. It is a great bunch and if they all play to their strengths then we’re going to have a very good campaign.”

Player of the Month

Niccolo Belloni

The midfielder, who was instrumental in getting Parma back into Serie A, has had a brilliant pre season, scoring twice in the six fixtures he has played and looks set to be a key player for Paolo Vanoli’s side as they kick start their return to the top flight.

Next Month

Just the one fixture in August and it couldn’t be any more difficult. Juventus, the Italian Champions for seven successive seasons, lay in wait for Parma at the Juventus Stadium in what couldn’t be a more difficult return for Parma in Serie A.

Other News

05.08.2018: AS Roma will be confident they have taken a massive step towards ending Juventus’ dominance of Serie A by appointing Jose Mourinho as their new manager.
08.08.2018: Fiorentina will also be confident of having a more successful year this year as they appointed former Germany and USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann as their new man in the hot seat.

Manager’s Thoughts

On the whole we’ve had a good pre season to be honest. Results against Fenerbahce and PSV Eindhoven saw us play pretty well against two Champions League quality teams and we impressed to be honest and played some good football. The other results were very good except the draw with Modena but going into the start of Serie A we can be very positive about our chances of staying up, even if we do start with the toughest fixture possible against Juventus. In the cup we’ve done really well to get to the final qualifying round although perhaps we should have scored more but the important factor is that we’ve qualified and now we can really start to look forward to the impending season.

Pretty sensational month their even if there was only one competitive game! Wins against PSV and Fenerbahce truly shows the class of your side!

SERIE A TIM PREVIEW: JUVENTUS VS. PARMA

Date: 25 August 2018
Kick Off: 18:00

Juventus
Based In: Turin
Last Season: 1st ( Serie A )
Manager: Massimilliano Allegri
Captain: Giorgio Chiellini
Key Player: Paul Pogba
Injuries & Suspensions: Cristian Bunino Stephan Liechsteiner
Last Match: 2-0 Vs. ACF Fiorentina
Form:

Fans Prediction: ”It’s nice to have them back, even if we are rivals. They had a tragic demise and a great rise so it will be great to see how they fare this season. We’ve had a good pre season and to beat Fiorentina in the Supercoppa title last time out was a good way to prepare us for this game so we’re raring to go. Hopefully we’ll get the victory and begin our campaign to win the title for the eighth successive season.”

Parma
Based In: Parma
Position: 2nd ( Serie B )
Manager: Paolo Vanoli
Captain: Raffaele Di Gennaro
Key Player: Niccolo Belloni
Injuries & Suspensions: N/A
Last Match: 2-0 Vs. Pavia
Form:

Fans Prediction: ”We sort of stumbled over the line a little bit last year before pulling ourselves together for the last few games and it sent us up. We’re delighted to be back in the top flight and playing the big boys and although a little apprehensive about playing Juventus in our first game, it’s also really exciting to play a team of their calibre in your first game. It’s not going to set a benchmark for how we fare this season but if we could pull out a shock that would be beyond our wildest dreams. We had a good pre season and picked up a nice win over Pavia last weekend so we’re ready for this. We’ll give it our best shot but you wouldn’t really back us to upset the apple cart but we shall see.”

I'm predicting a 7-0 win for Parma :P

Player of the Month

Denis Baumgartner

The forward who is still very young has had a very fruitful start to the competitive season, scoring twice against Pavia to fire Parma into the final qualifying round of the Coppa Italia, whilst putting in a good performance against Juventus where his relentless work rate would have no doubt impressed the reigning Champions.

September is where the Serie A TIM season really begins to kick off. For Parma there tricky start continues as ACF Fiorentina visit the Ennio Tardini in the club’s first home game for three years. After the International break Parma travel to Udine to face Udinese who finished 11th last season. The final three fixtures will be the games that Parma have their eyes on as Atalanta are the second visitors to Ennio Tardini this season before Parma finish September with two fixtures against Cesena and Carpi, two sides Paolo Vanoli will hope his team can get three points from.

Manager’s Thoughts

We shouldn’t be too concerned about our start to the campaign. Juventus was always going to be a tricky start to the season. They were almost European Champions as well as Italian Champions last season so it was never going to be easy. As it happened we didn’t disgrace ourselves and put in a solid defensive performance in the second half. It would have been nicer if we could have scored but against teams that aren’t Juventus we will have chances and I do believe we’ll have a positive season. Lucas Martinez Quarta, Marcello Trotta and Cesar all made their debuts and seemed to do well and hopefully they can continue to settle and will soon start playing their best football. Next month seems to be a bit more promising and hopefully by the time I’m talking to you next month we’ll have had a much better month.

Unlucky you were never expected to beat Juventus and if you manage to get points off the 'Big teams' they are only bonus points and won't decide your fate.

It would have been nice to show a little more but you're right they would only be bonus points if we get anything at all!

SERIE A TIM PREVIEW: PARMA VS. ATALANTA BERGAMO

Date: 23 September 2018
Kick Off: 15:00

Parma
Based In: Parma
Position: 18th
Manager: Paolo Vanoli
Captain: Raffaele Di Gennaro
Key Player: Niccolo Belloni
Injuries & Suspensions: Mattia Minesso
Last Match: 3-2 Vs. Udinese Calcio
Form:

Fans Prediction: ”We’ve not made a bad start to the season and the fans including myself are really happy with how we’ve started. At least the performances have been good, especially the last two games against Fiorentina and Udinese. We were unfortunate to lose against Udinese and after Gyomber’s own goal our heads just dropped which is why they scored the winner. But if we play like we did for 85 minutes against Atalanta we have a very good chance of winning this tie, so I’m going for a Parma win today.”

Atalanta Bergamo
Based In: Bergamo
Position: 10th
Manager: Walter Mazzarri
Captain: Marco Sportiello
Key Player: Carlos Carmona
Injuries & Suspensions: N/A
Last Match: 3-0 Vs. Novara
Form:

Fans Prediction: ”We’ve made a relatively good start, and to sit tenth is not bad. Walter Mazzarri has us playing some good football and we’ve got a very high profile manager in charge at the moment so maybe we can go on to have a very good season. Parma’s performance levels have been very high and they’ve played some good stuff so they’re going to be dangerous, especially at the Ennio Tardini but I think they’re heads will be down a bit after that defeat last weekend so I think we’re going to go grab the win.”
