Euro 2020 - Second Round

Seven of us remained in this prestigious competition, heading in to the knockout stages. We had representatives of Scotland, France, Holland and Serbia. How would our teams fair in the last sixteen of Europe's elite international competition?

Second Round Results

Holland Defeated Scotland By Means Of A Penalty Shootout

Right, a quick overview of the games none of us were involved in.... Germany defeated Ukraine on penalties after a tense 2-2 draw, while Croatia required extra time to knock Greece out of the running. Norway were victorious on penalties against Scandinavian rivals Denmark, while England usurped Italy after extra time. Reigning champions Portugal also required extra time to progress, defeating Poland in the process.

Two of our players were part of France's squad, and the French were up against Sweden. Hugo Montgomerie was the lone man up front on the day, and scored the opening goal as France marched out 3-0 victors. Alexandre Leblanc was an unused substitute.

Zlatanovic Pogbadinho lead the line for Serbia against a resilient Turkey outfit, who had taken an early lead. Serbia equalised just before half time, and Turkey were then reduced to ten men before the hour mark. Zlatanovic Pogbadinho stepped up to the task and scored the winner with just under fifteen minutes remaining, to ensure progression for Serbia.

The final game involving our participants was an absolute thriller, despite the scoreline. Sybe Gillan-van der Putten was an unused sub for Holland on the day, while Thomas Murray, Wayne Kerr and Ewan Dailly all started for Scotland. It was a game of much attacking flair and some superb defensive performances, notably Thomas Murray, and also a very feisty affair. Ten yellow cards were brandished throughout the initial ninety minutes, and the extra time that followed, and Scottish captain Darren Fletcher was even sent off for a second bookable offence. The game ended with a penalty shootout, and Holland ran out 4-1 victors as Scotland missed two penalties.

Quarter Final Draw

France Would Play Against Holland In The Quarter Finals

Our seven participants had been reduced to just four. Zlatanovic Pogbadinho and Serbia had a tough tie against reigning champions Portugal, but the most interesting tie for us was France, and Hugo Montgomerie & Alexandre Leblanc, against Holland, and Sybe Gillan-van der Putten. No matter what happened, we would lose at least one more participant at this stage, but we were also guaranteed at least one participant competing in the semi finals. Who would progress? Find out soon?
well that's heartbreaking

Euro 2020 - Quarter Finals

Only four of our participants remained in the competition. With just eight nations left in Europe's elite international competition, each game was a hotly anticipated one. Who would progress to the semi finals?

Quarter Final Results

France Defeated Holland In 3-2 Thriller

Two of the fixtures involved none of our participants, so here's a quick roundup of them. Croatia claimed a shock extra time victory over Germany to progress to the semi finals, while England were crushing 6-1 victors over Norway.

The thriller of the quarter finals could be found in France vs Holland. Sybe Gillan-van der Putten started for Holland, while Hugo Montgomerie started up front for France. Alexandre Leblanc was on the bench. France started like a team possessed as Hugo Montgomerie opened the scoring in the opening minutes. Mbappé doubled their lead, and Montgomerie added his second and France's third with twenty minutes to go. Holland looked down and out, but came back in to the game with two late Thomas Buitink goals. They couldn't find an equaliser, but they put France under enormous pressure.

Serbia's Zlatanovic Pogbadinho was up against reigning champions Portugal. The Portuguese took the lead early in the first half through Rúben Semedo, and looked set to win. However, Pogbadinho rescued the game for Serbia with a late equaliser. Extra time was then played with neither team scoring. The penalty shootout lacked quality, however, and Portugal scraped through in the end.

Semi Final Draw

France Would Face Croatia In The Semi Final Of The Euros

Hugo Montgomerie and Alexandre Leblanc of France would face an over-performing Croatia in the semi finals. France were expected to progress to the final. The other semi final would be contested by England and Portugal. Would our two players reach the final, or would Croatia prove too much? Find out soon!

Euro 2020 - Semi Finals

Only two of our participants remained in the Euros. Hugo Montgomerie and Alexandre Leblanc of France would compete in the semi finals for their country. They faced a tough task against Croatia. Let's see how they got on.

Semi Final Results

Croatia Defeated France In The Semi Finals

It was heartbreak for our French duo as Croatia mustered a surprise victory. Nikola Kalinic scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half, as Croatia booked a place in the final at France's expense.

In the other semi final, Portugal progressed to the final courtesy of an extra time victory over England.

The Final & Competition Awards

Portugal Won The Title For A Second Time In A Row

Pizzi scored early on for Portugal in a 1-0 victory over Croatia in the final. Cristiano Ronaldo missed a late penalty, but lifted the trophy in the end.

Robert Lewandowski's five goal haul for Poland was enough for him to be named the Best Player and Golden Boot winner of the competiiton. France's Kylian Mbappé was named as the Best Young Player. None of our participants were named in the Euros Dream Team.

And in 4 years time, Nininho will inspire Portugal to a third successive triumph, you mark my words ;)

51 million pound move.. I'll take that. Shame about the destination though. Rumour has it he went for the money.
14 assists in La Liga is a great return, hopefully the goals tally will pick up soon too! In terms of transfers, torn between wanting Nininho to move to Arsenal/United or staying at Espanyol where he'd most likely continue being a first choice winger and developing

Congratulations to Hugo Montgomerie (Feliks) for claiming the most individual points in the second season! Your player became a key part of Tottenham Hotspur and helped fire them to the Premier League title. 25 goals in all competitions helped truly announce you on the big stage, and you'll be looking to retain the league title next term.

Overall, it was a very positive season. Most players improved upon last season's performance, with only a few exceptions. The 100 points barrier was broken by ten players this season, as there were plenty of very very impressive performances. Who will become the first player to break the 200 points barrier? Will it happen next season?

So, it is now time where the team with the lowest number of points will be eliminated. There's no denying it, a huge slice of luck does come in to place now. You could be lucky and be part of a team which wins everything, or you could be unlucky and be injured for the whole season.

Unfortunately, one team does have to drop out at this stage. Commiserations to Mario Luigi (Hoosier) & Eric Samuelson (ImDonkey) for being that team. Your team, unfortunately, did not secure enough points to progress.
Mario Luigi struggled to make an impact at Málaga, while Eric Samuelson endured a difficult season at Crystal Palace. You will no longer be a part of this competition, but once it is over I will show how each player who played part got on in their entire career. Who knows, maybe your players will one day win the Ballon d'Or!
