Man City Proved Too Strong For Liverpool
Liverpool finished runner-ups in this season's Community Shield after they lost 2-3 against Manchester City. Liverpool were outmatched by Pep Guardiola's squad, who really showed why they are the best team in England (although that will soon change wink wink). Raheem Sterling put City in front rather early in the match, as he scored in the 8th minute after a rebound came at him and he easily went on to score with a nice finish from inside the box. Liverpool went on and equalised in the 40th minute with a nice Smith-Rowe header, but it was questionably disallowed.
The Reds were quite angry with the referee's decision and reacted strongly. Man City doubled their lead in the 46th minute, after a counter attack found Tom Werner on a one-on-one against Butland, which he put past easily. Liverpool bounced back almost immediately 2 minutes later, where Woodburn scored a powerful header after a TAA cross. Manchester City put the match to sleep in the 67th minute where Sane scored after a Raheem Sterling corner. Liverpool found consolidation in a TAA free kick in the 93rd minute, where TAA scored a free-kick in the top right corner from 25 meters. The match ended shortly after and while City did come out as the winners, Liverpool was the team that "truely won" that day. They really made the match difficult for City, who last season won the treble, which includes the English PL, the Carabao Cup and the Champions League.
Mgriffin2012: Could turn out to be pretty decent, I agree!
Nyambe looks to be a physically astute defender. That will bode well for the rigors ahead. As for losing to Man City, meh. You'll get your chance for revenge soon enough
Unlucky to have lost by that scoreline
A close scoreline, it shows the potential is there and bodes well for the season ahead.
A shame not to bag a title, but the Shield is merely even an award nowadays anyway
Liverpool Find Europa League Opponents
After qualifying for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup last season, Liverpool have today found out who they will face in the Group Stages.
First of all, we have Hertha BSC. The German team had a successful season last year, finishing 5th in the Bundesliga with 50 points, reaching the DFB-Pokal Quarter Final and reaching the last 32 in the Europa League last season. Hertha's key player is Davie Selke, a striker who scored 21 goals in 47 appearances last season. Selke has been in Hertha for the past 4 seasons, joining from Werder Bremen for €8.500.000 in 2017.
After, we have Rapid Vienna. The Austrian team finished 4th in the Austrian Bundesliga last season and therefore qualified for the Europa League 2nd Qualified Round. They beat the likes of Bran, Dundee and then Anorthosi to reach the group stages Stefan Schwab is Rapid Vienna's key player, being there since 2014. The Austrian midfielder has made 156 appearances for Die Grunen and has scored 31 goals.
Lastly, we have Rangers. The Scottish team finished as runner-ups last season, and have proven to be quite the team in Scotland finishing 2nd only 2 points behind Celtic. This is most probably the team Liverpool want to face the most, as they are still managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. Rangers' trip to Anfield will surely have quite the atmosphere, as the Reds will welcome back their beloved ex-player. Rangers' key player is ex-Liverpool player Jon Flanagan, who joined the Scottish team in 2018 on a free transfer after Liverpool's bankruptcy. He has already made 48 appearances for the Gers and is really loved by the fans.
Justice: Agreed. We're coming for them.
Mgriffin2012: Yup, infuriating too.
ScottT: Squad's looking good!
Jack: True that, but a trophy is still a trophy.
Huge match up against Gerrard's Rangers incoming! Relatively, I think you have enough about you to be able to defeat them teams in the group stages.
A decent group for Liverpool and the return of Gerrard to Anfield in particular will be a real highlight.
Well... I don't really know how to say this, but I will not be updating this story from now on.. I will not delete neither my save, nor my story here, but the updates feel like a chore now and frankly, I do not enjoy doing them.. I really hoped you enjoyed the story as much as I did but it's just not fun anymore.. I'm repeating myself but anyways... I may update it again if I find it enjoyable, but yeah that's it for now.. I will be playing FM in my spare time and sometimes may even progress the story save.. See you another time!
Sad to see this but I do understand. Thank you for the story you have shared to date!
