The ideal start to retaining your La Liga crown.

Champions League Group Stage Draw:

Last years beaten finalists Barcelona have been drawn in Group G of this years group stage, alongside Manchester United, AS Monaco, and Standard Liège. Will they be able to go one further this year and win the competition? Only time will tell. First of all, they will have to navigate one of the tougher groups of this years draw. Manchester United and AS Monaco are both top opposition, and will prove a considerable challenge both home, and away. Belgium side Standard Liège; with respect; are the easiest team within the group. However; they are champions of their league, and will look to cause an upset in front of their own fans.

Barcelona 2 - 0 Celta de Vigo

Barça victory despite being far from their best..

Barcelona made it 3 wins from 3 so far this season when they faced Celta de Vigo in-front of their own fans. New signing Frenkie de Jong made his first start for Barcelona; coming into the side for Sergio Busquets. Left back Marc Cucurella made his first senior appearance for the club; starting in place of Jordi Alba. It was a game lacking in quality; Barcelona deservedly won; however both teams were far from their best in this game. Ousmane Dembélé made the breakthrough for Barcelona on the 52 minute mark; getting his head on an Ivan Rakitić cross; to fire home from 6 yards. Spanish wonderkid Abel Ruiz completed the scoring in the 88th minute; bringing Nélson Semedo's cross under control in the 18 yard box, then having all the time he wanted to set himself, and fire past the Celta goalkeeper. Up next for Barcelona is the local derby away to Espanyol, on Friday the 13th.

Goalscorer(s):
Ousmane Dembélé (52), Abel Ruiz (88)

Man of the Match:
Ousmane Dembélé - 7.7 Match Rating
The sign of a trophy-winning team is the ability to win without being at their best, well done!
A nice victory there. I have to say, that Champions League group is far from comfortable. I suspect you'll work your way through, though.
Justice - Early days yet, but I'm confident we can maintain the standards that we set last season.

ScottT - Far from comfortable indeed. Still think we have that bit more quality to top the group; however, it should be a lot closer that it was last season.

Espanyol 0 - 1 Barcelona

Barcelona clinch derby day victory..

Friday the 13th is considered to be an unlucky date by many; for those who had the misfortune to attend tonight's game; that certainly turned out to be the case. Fans were treated to the most lackluster attempt of a derby, witnessed in recent years. No bite, and very little quality to discuss for fans and pundits alike. Barcelona can take some form of comfort coming away with a win, and maintaining their perfect start to the campaign. However; much shall have to be improved if they are to repeat their achievements of last season. The goal itself was a bit of a howler; Espanyol tried to keep possession of the ball and play out from the back, when goalkeeper Diego López got caught on the ball, allowing Barcelona forward Luis Suárez to dispossess him, and fire into the empty net. Next up for Barcelona is their opening fixture of the Champions League group stage, they face Standard Liège away from home.

Goalscorer(s):
Luis Suárez (48)

Man of the Match:
Luis Suárez - 7.1 Match Rating
A slender victory, but a win is a win!

Some good results there to continue a strong season. A lot of opportunities being handed out now to the younger generation.
Unlucky in the CL final, i'm sure you'll get your hands on it sooner, rather than later.
