In their opening round of the DFB-Pokal, 1860 Munich faced Bundesliga 2 side Chemnitzer FC which was the first competitive match for their four new signings in Svetozar Markovic, Amadou Traore, Diogo Dalot and Kasper Dolberg.
In the opening half, possession was shared between the two teams with Chemnitzer FC impressing at various times but failing to get past 1860 Munich defensive midfielder Marco Kana who made numerous key tackles. The best opportunity of the first half saw Kasper Dolberg place a one on one chance on the wrong side of the post as the game went into the break without a goal scored by either side.
The second half saw Robin Hack opened the scoring for 1860 Munich in the 46th minute when Eduardo Camavinga played the ball through to allow Hack an easy one on one chance. 1860 Munich’s 19-year-old midfield prodigy would increase the lead seven minutes later getting on the end of a cross from Amadou Troare. It was smooth sailing for 1860 Munich for the rest of the match as they secured their progression to the next round.
“It was a good opportunity for our team to gel with the new players at the club in a competitive environment.” said newly appointed 1860 Munich captain Eduardo Camavinga. “The whole club was not happy with how we exited this competition last season and we hope to make up for it this time around.” he added.
The second-round draw of the DFB-Pokal was not kind to 1860 Munich as they are set to face RB Leipzig at home. The timing of the fixture will see them play two consecutive home games against RB Leipzig with the Bundesliga fixture scheduled for three days prior.
