TEAM NEWS

22/01/23

25/01/23

The penultimate game of the month sees us travel to Liverpool as we look to cause an upset like we did earlier in the season against the Reds.

No words..... Shook. Utterly shook. We scratched and clawed our way to that win. 4 goals. 7 yellows. McCowan sent off. Tue injured in the first half. Liverpool had won 9 straight games until the mighty Ipswich came to town. Outstanding performance.

TEAM NEWS

28/01/23

The final game of the month sees us host West Brom as we look to build on our exceptional 4-3 win against Liverpool in the last game.

Wasn’t comfortable but it was always expected to be like that with so many players out injured or suspended for this game.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Only five games played for Gouiri this month after his three game suspension. But he’s been immaculate when he’s been on the pitch, getting 5 goals and 2 assists in January. Lots of excellent players this month, but Gouiri just scrapes it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TABLE

Brilliant month of football in January. Only lost one game, through to the FA Cup 5th Round and we are into a European position as well. New territory for us.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UP NEXT

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TheLFCFan - that was the plan for the winter break. Make sure they don’t all put their feet up for two months and keep their fitness up. And it looks to have paid off. :)

Jack - Europe would be insane, just gotta keep plugging away. Higuain was released by Juve after 2 goals in 19 games, and I guess Stale Solbakken (Brighton Boss) must see something of interest. 3 goals so far this season.

ScottT - December was always going to be short, building up for this long ass update in January :))
A fantastic set of results! Obviously the stand-out performance comes against Liverpool, but following that up with victory against West Brom is equally as excellent, in my view. It's always difficult to follow up such a win with another in quick succession.
Gouiri has been brilliant this month as well as Martin continuing to score. Lovely to see both the strikers making a massive impact. Another huge win against Liverpool, who you have inflicted two of three losses on which is a great little achievement. Those European spots are looking closer and closer ;)

FEVRIER, FEBRUAR, FEBBRAIO - 22/23

7 more league games for us to tackle on our way to the end of the season, and we are currently sat in the ‘best of the rest’ spot in the league. However, February looks like an incredible tough month with United and Arsenal in the final 3 games.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

01/02/23

The first game of the month sees us host 8th place Wolves in the ideal opportunity to stretch the gap between us and them.

Ipswich will be without Nuno Mendes for another game after his 10 yellows this season, whilst Christian Tue is still unavailable for the next few games.

Wolves have a slight injury problem currently, and will be without Jonny, Morgan Gibbs-White and Matias Vecino for today’s game.

IPSWICH: (4-2-3-1) Naumov, Seppanen, Fernandes, Woolfenden, Williamson, Downes, Dozzell, McCowan, Colic, Kent, Gouiri. SUBS: Dibusz, Vincent-Young, Stevens, Antiste, Dinga, Wirtz, Martin.

WOLVES: (4-1-2-2-1) Patricio, Esgaio, Boly, Coady, Vinagre, Herrera, Campuzano, Ntcham, Brooks, Iwobi, Downes. SUBS: Stankovic, Toloi, Redmond, Petagna, Fischer, Doherty, Antonio.

We decimate teams away from home, and then get decimated at home. Think we have one of the worst home records in the Prem. Not going to get anywhere near Europe if we keep playing home games.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

04/02/23

Up next its the local derby as we travel to Norwich looking for our 4th straight win over them. We need to keep winning away to have any chance of getting top half with our embarrassing home form.

Norwich have a few players our for today’s game, as they are without Isaac Becerra, Jude Bellingham, Jared Bowen and Layvin Kurzawa.

Ipswich are still without Christian Tue for the next few games, but do have Nuno Mendes back for this game from suspension.

NORWICH: (4-4-2) Steffen, Aguilar, Godfrey, Zimmerman, Lewis, Choudhury, Delaney, Ward-Prowse, Claesson, Cantwell, Terrier. SUBS: Pereira, Milivojevic, Marin, Moran, Santamaria, Bentley, Dembele.

IPSWICH: (4-2-2-1-1) Dibusz, Seppanen, Dinga, Woolfenden, Mendes, McCowan, Downes, Dozzell, Kent, Gouiri, Martin. SUBS: Naumov, Williamson, Wirtz, Antiste, Vincent-Young, Kohort, Stevens.

As i said, to good away but shocking at home. In the form table, we are 2nd away from home. We are 14th at home. That’s the issue. However, the Ipswich born Defender scoring against Norwich is always pleasant. 4/4 against them now.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

07/02/23

The third game of the months sees us host Watford in the league. This is the 4th time we are playing them in just over a month, and so far we haven’t lost to them. Can we keep that run going today?

Ipswich are still without Christian Tue, but he has returned to training so may be back for the Man United game later in the month.

Watford have Thierry Correia suspended, whilst Ismailia Sarr, William Troost-Ekong, Ben Wilmot, Kayne Ramsey and Lee O’Connor are all injured.

IPSWICH: (4-3-2-1) Dibusz, Seppanen, Fernandes, Woolfenden, Mendes, Stevens, Dozzell, Kohort, McCowan, Kent, Gouiri. SUBS: Naumov, Williamson, Colic, Martin, Vincent-Young, Wirtz, Antiste.

WATFORD: (4-1-3-1-1) Farinez, Buzinel, Carneiro, Dawson, Mawson, Comesana, Bakayoko, Selnaes, Mandrogan, Quina, Pedro. SUBS: Dahlberg, Burrows, Tabata, Philipp, Traore, Langston, Hernandez.

A comfortable home win? Are you sure game! That’s the rarest thing I’ve seen all season, but when Gouiri is on the pitch anything can happen! We rejected a £42mill bid from Liverpool in January, with 19 teams registering an interest in Gouiri, but fortunately he is still here.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

11/02/23

The games are coming quick, and now we face relegation threatened Everton in a must win home game for us, before we embark on a horror trifecta to end the month.

Ipswich‘s Christian Tue is one game away from being back to fitness, and other that him everyone else is fit.

Everton will be without goalkeeper Loris Karius for today’s game as he has a hamstring strain, but also have a fully fit squad besides him to work with.

IPSWICH: (4-3-2-1) Dibusz, Seppanen, Dinga, Woolfenden, Mendes, Stevens, Dozzell, Kohout, McCowan, Kent, Gouiri. SUBS: Naumov, Williamson, Colic, Martin, Vincent-Young, Wirtz, Antiste.

EVERTON: (3-4-2-1) Pickford, Holgate, Camara, Allen, Paterson, Baningme, Lopes, Bard, Lopez, Bernard, Kean, SUBS: Bazunu, Rebocho, Fraser, Solanke, Daramy, Gibson, Sanabria.

A decent result that gives us a massive three points in this unlikely Europe push. But, we do have three horrible games to try and tackle to keep up with the rest of the pack.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

18/02/23

The first of the big 3 games of the month sees us travel to Manchester United. They haven’t lost at home this season, so it will be an incredibly tough game.

Man United will be looking to go back to the top of the league with a win today, but will have to do so without Aaron Wan-Bissaka who has a fractured toe.

Ipswich have a fully fit side as Christian Tue has recovered from injury but may only be on the bench for today.

MAN UNITED: (4-2-3-1) De Gea, Dalot, Alvarez, Umtiti, Emerson, Zielinski, Pogba, Correa, Fernandes, Gomes, Cutrone. SUBS: Audero, Maguire, Lopes, Greenwood, Cristante, Ortega, Rashford.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Dibusz, Seppanen, Dinga, Woolfenden, Mendes, McCowan, Stevens, Dozzell, Tue, Gouiri, Martin. SUBS: Naumov, Williamson, Colic, Anitise, Vincent-Young, Wirtz, Krizmanic.

A close game settled by a single goal by United, so I’ll take pride in the fact we didn’t get battered by a side that haven’t lost at home this year.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

21/02/23

The penultimate game of the month sees us host Arsenal in the first of two back to back games against the London side, both in the league.

Ipswich have a fully fit side as they look to bounce back from defeat to Man United in the last game.

Arsenal have Bernd Leno taking a late fitness test for a sprained wrist, but other than that they have a full team to choose from.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Dibusz, Seppanen, Dinga, Woolfenden, Mendes, McCowan, Stevens, Dozzell, Tue, Gouiri, Martin. SUBS: Naumov, Williamson, Colic, Antiste, Fernandes, Kent, Downes.

ARSENAL: (4-2-3-1) Rajkovic, Bellerin, Manolas, Lindelof, Tierney, Torreira, Guendouzi, N’Da, Kang-In, Lacazette, Correa. SUBS: Leno, Mendy, Bentacur, Nketieh, Pepe, Chambers, Nelson.

Shame to lose this one as we matched them all game long. Going forward we are fine it’s just defensively we need to massively work on in the summer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

25/02/23

The final game of the month sees us travel to Arsenal looking for revenge after the game against them a few days back.

Arsenal have a fully fit side with Bernd Leno back to full fitness and available for the game.

Ipswich have a fully fit side as well as they try and take revenge on Arsenal and secure themselves a surprise win.

ARSENAL: (4-4-2) Leno, Bellerin, Manolas, Lindelof, Tierney, N’Da, Torreira, Guendouzi, Carrasco, Nketieh, Lacazette. SUBS: Rajkovic, Mendy, Bentacur, Pepe, Willock, Chambers, Correa.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Dibusz, Seppanen, Fernandes, Woolfenden, Mendes, McCowan, Stevens, Dozzell, Tue, Gouiri, Martin. SUBS: Naumov, Vincent-Young, Colic, Antiste, Dinga, Wirtz, Krizmanic.

Did I mention the fact that we play better away from home? How on earth did we do that? Exact same team from the last game, and we slapped them about!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

He’s won it 3 months in a row now. Gouiri is an exceptional talent that is insanely effective for only £825k. So glad to have him, and he gets better and better every game.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TABLE

7 games played and we are still sat in 7th place. Last year we finished in 13th place, and right now we are 16 points above that. Massive improvement on last year and we are still on course for European Football if fortunate.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UP NEXT

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ScottT - that West Brom game was just as hard as the Liverpool game for me, especially with all those injuries.

TheLFCFan - for the first time in this save I’ve seen a strike partnership blossoming before me. Will Keane, Jan Mlakar and Amine Gouiri were spearheading the last few seasons on their own, but with Dean Martin in play they are both performing above expectation.

MARS, MARZ, MARZO - 22/23

Only 4 games scheduled for this month, but the first is the FA Cup 5th Round tie with Chelsea, so if we can somehow overcome them we could have a Quarter Final tie this month depending on when they want the game to be played.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

04/03/23

The first game of the month sees us travel to Chelsea in the FA Cup 5th Round. We haven’t reached this stage in the save so far, nor did we reach this point in real life for about 15 years at this point......

Chelsea will be without Josip Brekalo with a broken leg as they look to push Ipswich aside on the hunt for cup glory.

Ipswich will be without Luke Woolfenden for the next few games after he suffered a twisted ankle in training.

The third game of the months sees us travel to Tottenham as we battle a key side for a place in European football next season.

It may not look like much but that for me is one of the biggest wins of the season for us, beating a side that have a few games in hand and are only a few points behind is massive in our push for European football.

TEAM NEWS

28/03/23

The final game of the month sees us host Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-final as we look to make the next round. We have also had the draw for the semi-final and we will be playing at home to Everton if we can get past Southampton. The other tie is Manchester City vs Liverpool, so we have been given an easier tie to attempt to reach Wembley.

Ipswich will be without Christian Tue, Denes Dibusz, Dominik Dinga and Lewis Thorne for today’s cup game against Southampton. However, Luke Woolfenden and Baba Fernandes are back today.

Southampton will be without Frederik Andre Bjorkan who is away on international duty, as they look to cause an upset and reach the FA Cup semi-final.

IPSWICH: (4-3-2-1) Naumov, Seppanen, Fernandes, Woolfenden, Mendes, Stevens, Dozzell, Kohout, McCowan, Gouiri, Martin. SUBS: Vincent-Young, Downes, Colic, Anitise, Steiring.

It wasn’t a comfortable win but I will take anything that puts us into a semi-final. Next in the FA Cup is Everton as we look to get to the FA Cup final, which will be huge for the club.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Unprecedented that the same player wins POTM for 4 straight months in a row. It’s been a brilliant few months for the whole team, but Gouiri has been head and shoulders above most players in the league.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TABLE

Only 3 games played in the league this month, with 2 wins and 1 defeat that keeps us in 7th place. We are still close to Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal above us, but West Ham and Brighton are reeling us in so we need them to start slipping up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YOUTH INTAKE

1 stand out player in this new batch of players. Scott Barrett looks like a decent CAM and will be retrained to be a central midfielder so he can get a chance in the first team.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UP NEXT

A good couple of months there and an FA Cup semi-final appearance to show for it, alongside a continued push for the top six. Keep up the pressure. Gouiri and Co are doing the business!

AVRIL, APRIL, APRILE - 22/23

We move into the final two months of the season, and we have eight games left to navigate to see where we might finish in the league. We also have an FA Cup semi-final match against Everton which is the ideal opportunity for Ipswich town to visit the Wembley.

Wolves will be without Jonny and Victor Fisher as they look to solidify their place in the top 10 of the Premier League.

Ipswich have a fully fit side to choose from for this cup tie with Everton.

Everton will be without Aly Camara with a broken wrist for today’s game, but other than that they have a full team.

IPSWICH: (4–3-2-1) Naumov, Seppanen, Fernandes, Woolfenden, Mendes, Stevens, Dozzell, Kohout, McCowan, Tue, Gouiri. SUBS: Dibusz, Williamson, Colic, Martin, Vincent-Young.

EVERTON: (3-4-2-1) Pickford, Dendoncker, Allen, Holgate, Weiser, Baningime, Lopes, Bard, Neto, Fraser, Kean. SUBS: Karius, Rebocho, Bernard, Sanabria, Lopez.

We did it the hard way, but in the end our two key players came through and took us to Wembley. Needed extra time but finally we’ve made it to the FA Cup final. One game away from crossing it off our goals. The side we face? The team we have beaten home and away this season in Liverpool. Should be a good tie.

Up next is Bournemouth at home as we look to keep the pace with the sides above us.

Ipswich have a fully fit side as they look to keep their place above Brighton and West Ham who are hot on their tails.

Bournemouth will be without Florent Da Silva, Timothy Weah and Cristiano Biraghi for today’s game, and are still near the relegation zone.

IPSWICH: (4-3-2-1) Naumov, Vincent-Young, Fernandes, Woolfenden, Mendes, Stevens, Dozzell, Colic, McCowan, Tue, Gouiri. SUBS: Dibusz, Williamson, Kohout, Martin, Dinga, Wirtz, Antiste.

Not comfortable but a win is massive at this time of the season. Gotta keep plugging away and hope Brighton and West Ham slip up along the way.

This is a huge game in the race for European Football, with Chelsea the closest side to us in our hunt for guaranteed Europa League games next season.

Ipswich have Nuno Mendes suspended for the next few games after picking up numerous bookings this season.

Chelsea will be without Josip Brekalo who is still recovering from his broken lower leg.

IPSWICH: (4-3-2-1) Naumov, Seppanen, Fernandes, Woolfenden, Williamson, Stevens, Dozzell, Colic, McCowan, Tue, Gouiri. SUBS: Dibusz, Vincent-Young, Kohout, Martin, Dinga, Krizmanic, Antiste.

CHELSEA: (4-2-3-1) Kepa, James, Ampadu, Christensen, Spence, Jorginho, Taylor, Pulisic, Barkley, Sancho, Abraham. SUBS: Coste, Tomori, Stockbridge, Webster, Correia, Felipe, Martinez.

If we are to get European Football this season then it will have to be in the European Conference League. I just hope we have enough about us to keep ourselves in 7th place.

The final game of the month sees us host Leeds in a game that could be huge if we can get the win today.

Ipswich will be without Nuno Mendes and Florian Wirtz for today’s game, but other than that they have a full team to choose from.

Leeds have Danny Ings, Liam Cooper and Enzo Millot all our injured for today’s game. They are embroiled in a relegations crap as well.

IPSWICH: (4-3-2-1) Naumov, Seppanen, Fernandes, Woolfenden, Williamson, Stevens, Colic, Kohout, McCowan, Tue, Gouiri. SUBS: Dibusz, Vincent-Young, Dozzell, Martin, Dinga, Krizmanic, Antiste.

LEEDS: (4-2-3-1) Omlin, Shackleton, Holding, Kenneh, Taylor, Bogusz, Phillips, Amaechi, Weeks, Sallai, Roberts. SUBS: Casilla, Seigers, Fjellskaalad, Edmondson, Morgan, Tymon, Gray.

A game we needed to win, and we did just that. Shock horror it was Gouiri that set us on our way. Excelllent win.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Does this guy not take a breath! How is he so good all of the time. Gonna be fielding massive bids for him in the summer if we don’t get Europe.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TABLE

5 games played this month, and as you can see we are still in 7th place, and are so close to securing the role of ‘best of the rest’. If West Ham, Wolves and Brighton can’t capitalise on their games in hand, then Europa Conference League could be ours, if the game allows us to.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UP NEXT

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ScottT - Gouiri is like a man possessed right now, there is no stopping him.
It looks like seventh-place is yours, which is still within itself a fantastic finish. Gouiri continues to score goals when needed the most; there has got to be plenty of interest in him during the summer. Well done on battling through against Everton, an opportunity to win silverware at Wembley awaits!

MAI, KANN, MAGGIO - 22/23

The final month of the season has arrived, and with European football possibly on the horizon, we need to keep our focus going into the final few games. Plus, we have an FA Cup final match to deal with.

The first game of the month sees us travel to mid table Leicester with a win being massive for our chances for Europe.

Leicester will be without Dennis Praet, Terence Kongolo and Wilfried Ndidi for today’s game against Ipswich, as they look set for a mid table finish.

Ipswich are still without Nuno Mendes for today’s game as he serves the final game of his three match suspension.

LEICESTER: (4-1-2-2-1) Ward, Pereira, Papetti, Benkovic, Justin, Ndidi, Tielemans, Hughes, Deulofeu, Perisic, Malen. SUBS: Schmeichel, Maitland-Niles, Brito, Iheanacho, Corona, Thomas, Mariano.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Naumov, Seppanen, Fernandes, Woolfenden, Mendes, McCowan, Stevens, Dozzell, Tue, Gouiri, Martin. SUBS: Dibusz, Vincent-Young, Kohout, Antiste, Dinga, Wirtz, Krizmanic.

Pretty boring game but results elsewhere means we have secured at least 7th spot! I don’t know if that means European Football we will have to find out at the end of the season.

13/05/22

The next game is against Man City, but as we have secured 7th spot and can’t go any higher it could be time for some rotation to take a look at some players that might be on the move in the summer.

Man City have a fully fit side to face Ipswich as they look to secure themselves 3rd position ahead of Arsenal.

For Ipswich, they also have a full side as they look to show their potential for next season with a good showing vs City.

MAN CITY: (4-1-2-2-1) Ederson, Walker, Hernandez, Laporte, Mendy, Rodri, Verschaeren, Maddison, Hlozek, Chiesa, Silva. SUBS: Muric, Ajer, Saka, Ramos, Sane, Ake, Foden.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Naumov, Vincent-Young, Fernandes, Dinga, Mendes, Kent, Kohout, Colic, Tue, Antiste, Martin. SUBS: Dibusz, Seppanen, Wirtz, Gouiri, Woolfenden, Stevens, Krizmanic.

An expected result with no meaning whatsoever for ourselves, just good to get some back ups playing football for now.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EUROPEAN FOOTBALL IS BACK IN SUFFOLK. It’s been 22 years but finally European Football will be played at Portman Road. We had secured 7th in the last game, but I didn’t know if we had secured Europe. Now the message has come through, and this team has been incredible this season, and I’m so happy to finally call them a European Calibre side. Hopefully now we can keep some of the ones that have ‘outgrown’ us so far.

The final game of the season sees us host already relegated Sheffield United in a chance to let more kids shine.

Ipswich will be without Andre Dozzell and Dominic Stevens for todays game, but may look at giving some kids game time today.

Sheff Utd have a fair few players missing today with: Stevan Jovetic, George Baldock, Callum Robinson, Mathias Jensen and Warner Hahn all missing today.

IPSWICH: (4-3-2-1) Naumov, Vincent-Young, Chambers, Burgess, Mendes, Krizmanic, Kohout, Colic, McCowan, Kent, Webb. SUBS: Dibusz, Denham, Wirtz, Martin, Baggott, Barrett, Antiste.

SHEFF UTD: (4-2-3-1) Randolph, Olosunde, Keane, O’Connell, Dummett, Norwood, Piotrowski, Townsend, Verre, Freeman, McBurnie, SUBS: Bruzzese, Antonio, Ghezzal, Mir, Abe, Bates, Lundstrum.

Lots of rotation for the final game of the season. Chambers is retiring at the end of the season so I was always going to give him the game. Luke Webb is listed as our ‘hot prospect’ for the future so wanted him to make his first team debut as well.

The end of season review is in full swing currently as a hell of a lot of detail that goes into that has happened before our FA Cup game against Liverpool. One of those things in the cup competitions. In the Europa League, the final was between Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen, and without realising the game had been played, we got this email through after it had been finished......

I’ve never been a Tottenham fan more than this very second. They only went a bloody won the Europa League, so they now compete in the Champions League, which means we get bumped from the Conference League into the Europa League!!!!! Let’s gooooooooooo! Proper European football for us to taste next season.

It’s taken it’s time but the final game of the month has arrived and sees us play Liverpool in the FA Cup final. Wembley awaits for two teams who have had differing seasons so far. Liverpool went all the way with United for the title, and played them on the last day to see who would win the league. More on that in the end of season review. Ipswich have been fighting above expectation all season long, and now find themselves back at Wembley for the FA Cup final.

Ipswich, in what will be George Burley’s 200th game in charge of the side, will be without Nuno Mendes and Dominic Stevens for today’s game.

Liverpool have Joe Gomez out with a hernia, whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mane and Romario Baro are doubts.

IPSWICH: (4-3-2-1) Naumov, Seppanen, Dinga, Woolfenden, Williamson, Downes, Dozzell, Colic, McCowan, Tue, Gouiri. SUBS: Dibusz, Vincent-Young, Wirtz, Antiste, Martin.

LIVERPOOL: (4-2-3-1) Allison, Hoever, van Dijk, Tah, Robertson, Arthur, Keita, Salah, Wijnaldum, Rafa, Icardi, SUBS: Grabara, Varane, Fabinho, Le Bras, Firmino.

VICTORY IS OURS!! It was a nervy finish, but we came through on penalties 3-1, securing our first FA Cup win for 45 years. 1978 was a great time to be an Ipswich fan, and George Burley has followed in Sir Bobby Robson’s footsteps. We can cross another goal off the checklist, and thank god we’ve got our first piece of major silverware.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So there we have it, our second season in the Premier League has ended, and somehow we have defied all expectation and secured a Europa League spot, and emphatically at that!!! A brilliant season, so many of our kids stepped up and performed admirably. Next season will of course be as tough to retain our place as ‘best of the rest’, but I’m excited to see what we can do. The next update will of course be the annual ‘End of Season Review’

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ScottT - he's had a fantastic season, and I've had reports through that Watford? Everton? Norwich? Arsenal! Chelsea! Man United! Man City! and most recently Barcelona!!! are all after his signature. The 'Gouiri' story will be the biggest transfer saga the summer imo.

END OF SEASON REVIEW - 22/23

We have reached the end of the league season, and we have secured ourselves a place in the Europa League for the 2023/24 season. Now that the 2022/23 season has come to a close, its time to look back across the world to see what’s being going on in our save this year.

LEAGUE TABLES

TROPHIES AND AWARDS

IPSWICH POSITIONS

CLUB STATS

So, that’s the round up of all the extra bits that have happened this season. I hope you have enjoyed reading my 2022/23 season with Ipswich Town, and let’s hope 2023/24 can be a belter as well. Our next update will be a look ahead to Pre Season, and any interesting things that happen between now and the 1st of July.
Absolutely incredible! I am delighted to see you've not only qualified for the Europa League now, but also gone on to beat Liverpool in the FA Cup final. A truly fantastic season for the club and hopefully the beginning of something magical in the next few years? We will see!
What a season! Europa League football secured and an FA Cup victory, just brilliant. Gouiri was brilliant as was his strike partner Martin also proving to be a brilliant signing. Next year is going to be massive as I can imagine a number of 'Big' clubs coming in for some of the key players but hopefully you manage to keep hold of them all and are able to build upon this excellent season.

What’s on in June in Ipswich? - 23/24

Ipswich is a........ beautiful town in the south east of England, and there are numerous things on offer this June to check out. There is a Latin Jazz Workshop where you can ‘enjoy and learn about Latin jazz.’ A Fleetwood MAC tribute act is returning to the Ipswich Regent, that sounds like fun for your parents to indulge themselves in some old school classics. Ah Ipswich, you wonderful pit.

Ipswich Town have secured a magnificent European Spot for next season, and with that high ceiling comes the need to sign higher quality players. That process started back in March, as we heard reports that Ipswich had broken their transfer record to sign a young winger who would arrive in June.

However, we have just heard news that the young lad in question has just been ruled out for the next 5 months with a broken foot. With him being out of action until November, what will this do for George Burley with the new guy arriving in only 5 days?

In the final game of his league season, our new winger only goes a breaks his foot in the Derby. Why does this sort of thing always happen to me. When you see him in the Transfer Window update you’ll see why I’m so high on this kid, but now he’s out till November puts a lot of pressure on McCowan to perform again next season.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

08/06/23

Ipswich have done a full 360 and have brought club legend Bryan Klug back to the club as their Head of Youth Development. The Englishman had been with Ipswich from 1988-2010 as a U18 coach, U18 Manager, First Team Coach and First Team Assistant Manager, before moving to Tottenham where he spent 2 years as their head of youth development. When Big Mick joined Ipswich he immediately snapped Klug up from Spurs and was with the club till 2021 when he was poached by Huddersfield. Now, two years later, he is back with his home town club that he spent his academy years with.

I was devastated when Klug left to join Huddersfield two years ago, but thank god he is back where he belongs. During his time in Yorkshire he brought through a handful of talented kids, so hopefully he can repeat that with even better resources at his disposal.

Oh, and Manchester United have just spent £47mill on Sergio Gomez from Villarreal. 1 goal in 103 games for the attacking midfielder, so I guess that’s the minimum to be a United signing now.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15/06/23

Liverpool have signed Sandro Tonali for £85mi, and he looks like an absolute monster in the game. After Liverpool bottled the FA Cup, Champions League and the Premier League all in the space of 15 days, they will be desperate for more quality.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16/06/23

Not to be out done by Liverpool, recent strugglers Man City have stumped up an extra million to bring in Dominik Szoboszlai from Dortmund for £86mill. Stupid money being thrown about this window.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

17/06/23

Exclusive news coming out of Ipswich Town is that Dean Martin has rejected the contract offer from Leicester for a £32million move, in favour of renewing with Ipswich for the next five years. Martin had a £32mill release clause in his deal when he first joined the club as a free agent in the summer, and with Burley not expecting the instant impact from the young Scotsman, who has 11 goals in 11 international games, the £32mill clause didn’t seem to be a problem.

However, as the season ended Martin’s valued soared to £31mill, so Burley had to act quick to keep his man. Martin was juggling two contract offers at the same time, but opted to extend his stay in the south east, citing his relationship with George Burley to be the key factor in his decision. With one striker tied down for 5 years, can Burley keep Gouiri alongside him.

Also coming out of Ipswich is that young full back Sam Williamson has signed a new 4 year deal after his current contract was scheduled to run out next summer.

The Dean Martin saga started on the 7th of June, lasted 10 days and was the most stressful moment of the save. I didn’t even realise he had a release clause until a random journalist question popped in my newsfeed saying so. Fortunately he has signed a new deal, one that doesn’t include a release clause.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So that’s the end of the June update. Not as much happened here compared to the previous seasons, but that’s because Marcus has been working on the youth and training facilities in the last season, which are scheduled to be completed in January. Next update will be the July run through.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ScottT - I was in shock that we were able to beat Liverpool 3 times last season, especially with the final one coming in the FA Cup final. Two ‘goals’ from the save checked off last season, now on to the rest.

TheLFCFan - Gouiri and Martin are terrifying. Hopefully they can stay together for at least another season.... Gouiri himself at one point was wanted by 34 clubs, so should be a fun window.
Phew. Keeping hold of Martin is a huge positive going forward. He's already proven he is not only one for the future, but also the here and now.

Congratulations on winning Story of the Month also. You deserve it!
ScottT - The Martin saga was so stressful because I was completely unaware of his release clause, fortunately I saw it a day before Leicester made the bid, if I hadn't I don't know if he would have stayed with me.

Thanks man for voting for me, means a lot that someone with your status in the community found mine the most engaging. Makes me want to improve this story further.
