March - 24/25

A few months left of the season to play, with a couple of cup ties to work on. The second leg of the Champions League against Juve is soon, as well as a FA Cup 5th Round tie. But first, we have the Carabao Cup Final against Manchester City.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

02/03/25

The first game of the month sees us host high flying Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Final, as we look to win a cup competition that has alluded us since the save has begun.

Ipswich will be without Valentin Antov through suspension, whilst Reiss Nelson is out injured with a hamstring strain, as Ipswich look to best Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Final.

Man City are without Benjamin Mendy for today’s final against Ipswich Town as they look to get their season back on track with a win today.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Solet, Bank, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Quinn, Bradaric, Tue, Osimhen.

MAN CITY: (4-1-2-2-1) Muric, Stones, Ajer, Laporte, Ake, Neves, De Bruyne, Szoboszlai, Silva, Sterling, Cavalheiro. SUBS: Ederson, Alfonso, Sane, Foden, Maddison, Angelino, Silva.

YESSSSSSSSSS!! Another competition checked off. An excellent turn around win against a very good Manchester City side. It didn’t start in the best way for the East Anglian side, as Manchester City took the lead midway through the first half, as Bernardo Silva turned home a Kevin De Bruyne long pass to give the Mancunian side the lead. We were able to level the game up on half time as Yukhym Konoplya’s low cross was smashed home by Alexey Tkachuk at the near post. The turnaround was complete just before the hour mark as Dean Martin’s free kick was headed back into the box by Jonas Bank, and it ricocheted off Kristoffer Ajer into the corner of the net. We held out for the rest of the game, as Oumar Solet lifted the trophy in front of 90,000 people.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s taken 6 years but we have finally moved up from being a ‘favoured personal’ to now being an ‘icon’ at the club. We’ve left players like Martin, Dozzell and Osimhen in the favoured personal section, joining the likes of ex players John Wark, Matt Holland and Terry Butcher, and also conveniently George Burley himself one the list. We are closing in on being a ‘legend of the club’ like Ramsey and Robson, but it will take some time for that.

After the excellent result against Manchester City, we now travel to their trophy hunting rivals Liverpool in another tough game for our season. Coming through these sorts of games could be massive for us.

Ipswich are still without Reiss Nelson through a hamstring strain, whilst both first choice centre backs Valentin Antov and Oumar Solet are both out suspended.

Liverpool’s Romario Baro is unregistered for today’s trip to Ipswich, whilst Raphael Varane has a injured calf strain and is missing for the game.

IPSWICH: (4–4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Woolfenden, Bank, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Quinn, Bradaric, Tue, Osimhen.

LIVERPOOL: (4-1-2-2-1) Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Tah, Abel, Maia, Tonali, Arthur, Salah, Mane, Le Bras. SUBS: Sinclair, Gomez, Anderson, Icardi, Smith, Thijssen, Firmino.

Considering the fact we were missing our two best central defenders for today’s game against Liverpool, I’m very happy with the result. It didn’t start in the best of fashion, as our makeshift defence was thwarted by Pascal Le Bras after a lofted through ball from Arthur. The game was evened up as our youth product Luke Woolfenden showed he does still have Premier League quality, heading home Alexey Tkachuk’s corner on 30 minutes. The game swung back into Liverpool’s favour before half time, as Le Bras doubled his tally for the game with a long range strike from the corner of the box. An even game on paper turned into an even game on the scoresheet, as with 15 minutes to play, Dean Martin equalised for the home side from a Victor Osimhen pass to push us 5 points clear of Chelsea with a game in hand.

08/03/25

Up next we travel to Manchester United off the back of that decent result against Liverpool, as we look to advance to the FA Cup Quarter Final.

Man United are without Edson Alvarez for today’s game against Ipswich in the FA Cup with a torn knee ligament.

Ipswich have Reiss Nelson still on the injury table with a hamstring strain, whilst Oumar Solet is suspended for today’s match.

MAN UNITED: (4-2-3-1) De Gea, Wan Bissaka, Mukiele, Umtiti, Ortega, Mejbri, Pogba, Campanella, Gomes, Rashford, Greenwood. SUBS: Henderson, Diaz, O’Dell, Greening, Fernandes.

IPSWICH: (4–4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Antov, Bank, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Quinn, Tue.

For the second year in a row we are knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United in the 5th round. Honestly, I’m not that fussed by it. The league defeats have been horrible by the FA Cup is a competition is one I’ve already won before, so defeat here is not gonna hurt me because we can now focus on the Champions League and Premier League run in. United started super strongly going 3-0 up early in the first half. Mason Greenwood opened the scoring on 5 minutes after a long ball from Paul Pogba. Marcus Rashford doubled the home sides lead, slotting home from Angel Gomes’ low cross. It was 3-0 not long after that after Mukiele headed Gomes’ corner back across goal into Campanella’s path and he smashed it past Angus Gunn. We looked to be dead and buried after only 30 minutes, but we did get one back before half time through Dean Martin. He headed home Kemal Gul’s cross on 38 minutes to give us some hope. We got the game back to a 1 goal deficit, as Kemal Gul knocked Christian Tue’s cross down to David Quinn who gave us some false hope, but it was all in vain.

11/03/25

Back to league action now as we have our 4th ‘big 6’ game in a row. Essentially we have the same kind of run as we had last year which nearly killed our season. Fortunately, we are much better than we were last year.

Ipswich have Oumar Solet and Valentin Antov back from their league suspensions, but are still without Reiss Nelson who is recovering from his hamstring strain.

Tottenham have a fully fit side to choose from as they look to jump above Man City and Liverpool and into a Champions League spot.

IPSWICH: (4–4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Solet, Antov, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Stevens, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Colic, Quinn, Bradaric, Tue, Osimhen.

TOTTENHAM: (4-2-3-1) Onana, Ferro, Armani, Sanchez, Vinagre, Gravenbach, Van de Beek, Gomez, Reinier, Sessegnon, Kane. SUBS: Butland, Matviender, Harper, Zanni, Bartoletta, Dallison, Acksteiner.

A game we probably should have won considering we had 12 shots on target compared to their 3. We dominated them all game long but we couldn’t put the ball in the back of net. But it does keep us clear of the teams below us, so thats good.

15/03/25

More games coming thick and fast as we travel to merseyside to face Everton in the Premier League, looking to get back to winning ways.

Everton may be without Peter Pokorny for today’s game against Ipswich as they look to drag themselves away from a surprise relegation battle they find themselves in.

Ipswich may be without Reiss Nelson for today’s game against Everton as they look to extend their lead over Chelsea to 9 points.

EVERTON: (7-2-1) Pickford, Lemonnier, Camara, Pokorny, Rodon, Allen, Cardoso, Bard, Powell, Kean, Ramos. SUBS: Mackay-Smith, Mavropanos, Lane, Seguin, Ward-Prowse, Nastasic, Neto.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Solet, Antov, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Quinn, Bank, Tue, Osimhen.

The return of the horrific 7 defender formation still can’t thwart us as we pick up the 1-0 win. No surprise that Everton are where they are in the league with that horrific style of football. Deserve to go down. We needed to win with a penalty, as Kemal Gul was fouled in the box and Dean Martin stepped up to smash the ball past Pickford and secure as the win.

18/03/25

Away from league action now as we host Juventus in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, bringing a 2-1 win back to Ipswich from Turin.

Ipswich may be without Reiss Nelson because of his hamstring injury, whilst Ludwig Englund and Luke Webb are unregistered from the Champions League.

Juventus are definitely without Wojciech Szczesny with torn wrist ligaments, whilst Merih Demiral and Jadon Sancho are doubts with hamstring and groin strains.

IPSWICH: (4–4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Solet, Antov, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Stevens, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Bank, Colic, Quinn, Bradaric, Tue, Osimhen.

JUVENTUS: (4-2-3-1) Semper, Ionascu, De Ligt, Hermoso, Quiroga, Can, Rabiot, Meunier, Ugolini, Stevanovic, Jota. SUBS: Del Favero, Rugani, Roberto, Gouiri, Belmonte, Castagne, Embolo.

An excellent result that puts us into the next round of the Champions League. It didn’t start in the greatest way as Juve did take the lead after 15 minutes, as Diogo Jota headed home a Meunier cross to give the away side the lead. They got their away goal they desperately needed, but we were able to even the game up as Oumar Solet headed home Tkachuk’s corner at the near post to level the game. Just after half time, we extended the gap between us, as provider turned goalscorer as Tkachuk slotted home Konoplya’s through ball to turn the game on its head. It wasn’t all plain sailing however as Juve equalised 3 minutes later. Meunier the instigator again as De Ligt headed home his free kick to put them in a strong position. They huffed and puffed, but to no avail as Solet secured the win for us late in the game from another Tkachuk corner as we advance into the Quarter Final.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER FINAL DRAW

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

It’s not been a stellar month with a few draws in their, but Tkachuk has started to really step up this month. 2 goals and 3 assists, especially his role in the Juve game meant he has had a great month for us.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TABLE

Still sitting top of the tree, with a game in hand over Chelsea as our fixture with Leicester was postponed due to their FA Cup game with Barnsley. We are 5 points clear of Chelsea, and hopefully we can keep our insane season going. 8 points clear of 3rd placed Arsenal, with two games in hand is massive as well.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UP NEXT

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Leckuno - it was a horrible set of games, but I’m glad the defeat was in the FA Cup and not the Carabao Cup, another competition to check off the list.

ScottT - that away game against Juve was huge for our home game against them. Liverpool will be a tough two legged tie, but hopefully we can build a lead in the home leg.
Congrats on another trophy! Still going strong in the league and your tie with Liverpool could be easier as you should know how to play them more than any of the others left in the competition.

April - 24/25

Two months left of the season to play, with some crunch ties to play through. The first leg of the Champions League Quarter Final against Liverpool is soon, but first we have a league game against Aston Villa.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

05/04/25

The first game of the month sees us travel to relegation threatened Aston Villa as we look to extend our lead at the top of the table to 8 points.

Aston Villa are without Jack Grealish for today’s game against Ipswich through suspension, whilst John McGinn is a doubt with a twisted ankle.

Ipswich may be without Luke Webb for today’s game against Aston Villa through a sprained ankle ligament.

ASTON VILLA: (4-1-4-1) Areola, Ibrahim, Konza, Leite, Lewis, Okay, Under, McTominay, Lingard, Kazura, Lucas. SUBS: Bettinelli, Kolasinac, Smith Rowe, Mayoral, Radoja, Bradbrook, Whiteman.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Gunn, Seppanen, Solet, Antov, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Bradaric, Stevens, Osimhen, Bank, Tue, Quinn.

A nothing game which didn’t have many clear cut chances for either side to capitalise on. An ineffective game which keeps us 6 points ahead of Chelsea who are now in third on the same amount games as us.

09/04/25

We move away from the Premier League and into the Champions League with a home tie against Liverpool to wet our appetite.

Ipswich are without Yukhym Konoplya and Dominic Stevens for today’s first leg against Liverpool through suspension, whilst Luke Webb and Ludwig Englund are unregistered.

Liverpool are without Romario Baro and Ian Anderson through injury as they look to take a lead back to Anfield, whilst Rafa, Bruno Guimaraes and Twan Thijssen are unregistered.

IPSWICH: (4–4-2) Gunn, Seppanen, Solet, Antov, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Bradaric, Tue, Quinn, Bank, McCowan, Osimhen.

LIVERPOOL: (4-1-2-2-1) Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Tah, Robertson, Maia, Arthur, Tonali, Salah, Mane, Le Bras. SUBS: Sindelar, Gomez, Smith, Icardi, Varane, Abel, Firmino.

A good win for us to take to Anfield in the second leg. It was a game we dominated by we couldn’t seem to find that allusive second goal. We started the game like a house on fire as Alexey Tkachuk opened the scoring on 21 seconds from a Kemal Gul cross. But for 89 more minutes neither side could put the ball in the back of the net, and we succumbed to only a 1-0 lead to take in to the next leg.

12/04/25

Up next we travel to Manchester City off the back of that very good result against Liverpool, as we look to extend our lead at the top for the table.

Man City have a fully fit side to choose from as they look to jump back up into the Champions League spots after a fairly poor season.

Ipswich will be without Kemal Gul for the next two games through suspension, whilst Luke Webb is a doubt with his sprained ankle ligament.

MAN CITY: (4-1-2-2-1) Ederson, Scholte, Ajer, Laporte, Ake, Neves, De Bruyne, Maddison, Silva, Chiesa, Silva. SUBS: Muric, Alfonso, Sane, Cavalheiro, Foden, Mendy, Hudson-Odoi.

IPSWICH: (4–4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Solet, Antov, Bradaric, McCowan, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Quinn, Bank, Tue, Osimhen.

Oh that is an exceptional win. Yes Manchester City have fallen of their stool recently but they have world class players. An excellent victory. Started in the best way possible when Dean Martin dispatched a 3rd minute penalty after Luke McCowan was fouled in the box. The equaliser did come for City but I was late in the game with 10 to play, as Laporte headed home a James Maddison free kick which looked to have sent the game to a draw. That was not to be however, as Dominic Stevens, fresh of the bench, scored a fluke of a goal from 65 yards, the ball floating over Ederson’s head and into the back of the net. An astonishing way to win the game, but I will take what I can get.

TEAM NEWS

15/04/25

Back to Champions League action now as we have our second leg tie against Liverpool. We hold a 1-0 lead from the first leg, and hopefully we can keep ourselves in front.

Liverpool are without Romario Baro, Joe Gomez and Ian Anderson through injury as they look to overturn the 1-0 defeat from the first leg, whilst Rafa, Bruno Guimaraes and Twan Thijssen are unregistered.

Ipswich are without Reiss Nelson through injury, whilst Luke Webb and Ludwig Englund are unregistered as they look to advance to the semi finals.

LIVERPOOL: (4-2-3-1) Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Tah, Abel, Tonali, Arthur, Salah, Smith, Mane, Le Bras. SUBS: Sindelar, Robertson, Maia, Icardi, Keita, Varane, Firmino.

IPSWICH: (4–4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Solet, Antov, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Quinn, Bank, Tue, Osimhen.

Into the semi finals we go!!!!!!!!! A very even game that we found a way through. Liverpool evened the tie up on 19 minutes, as Mo Salah smashed home Abel’s cross from the left wing to put both sides in a decent position for the rest of the game. Neither side could find the initiative throughout, but eventually in the second minute of added time, Grant Margeman stepped up to smash home a Dean Martin flick on to give us the aggregate win and a route into the Champions League Semi Final.

More games coming thick and fast as we travel to Brighton looking to cement our place in the Champions League for next season.

Brighton have a fully fit side to choose from as they look to stake their claim on the final European spot in the Premier League.

Ipswich have Kemal Gul still suspended after picking up 10 yellows for this season, whilst Reiss Nelson is out with a groin strain. Domagoj Bradaric is a doubt with a bruised ankle.

BRIGHTON: (4-4-2) Maignan, Frimpong, White, Bella-Kotchep, Tymon, Holse, Chiquinho, Duncan, Mac Allister, Connolly, Andone. SUBS: Naumov, Webster, Vargas, Collet, Kamano, Centelles, Boadu.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Solet, Antov, Mendes, McCowan, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Quinn, Bank, Tue, Osimhen.

These can be the hardest games we have to play in the season. Smaller sides who are outperforming bigger teams are so tough to face, and Brighton came into the game 2 points behind 7th place Manchester City. We opened the scoring in the 13th minute after Andre was fouled in the box, and Dean Martin struck the ball home to give us the lead. We were pegged back midway into the second half as Florian Andone headed home Holse’ cross to give the home side an equaliser. We pushed for the rest of the game, and found our breakthrough as Dean Martin got his second of the game after David Quinn squared the ball for him to tap home.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It has been confirmed with 4 games left to play in the league that we have secured ourselves a spot in the Champions League for next season. It’s been an insane run that looks to get even better, as we reach the crunch time in the year.

26/04/25

Up next is a rearranged home tie with Leicester City, where results elsewhere could see us win the Premier League.

Ipswich are without Luke McCowan for today’s game against Leicester with blisters, whilst Kemal Gul and Reiss Nelson are doubts with an ankle problem and groin strain respectively.

Leicester are missing Gerard Deulofeu and Florian Thauvin through injury as they look to solidify their mid table status.

IPSWICH: (4–4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Solet, Antov, Mendes, Colic, Margeman, Englund, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Quinn, Bank, Tue, Osimhen.

LEICESTER: (4-2-3-1) Karius, Justin, Papetti, Brignone, Sehovic, Tielemans, Ndidi, Navarro, Felix, Duncan, Allan. SUBS: Ward, Faustino, Bakayoko, Paulsen, Maitland-Niles, McGowan, Barnes.

We had to do it the hard way but we came from behind to win the game. In fairness we dominated the game but we couldn’t show our true dominance on the pitch in the first half. At the beginning of the second, Leicester opened the scoring as Jamie Duncan ran through the defence and smashed it past Angus Gunn to give the away side the lead. We needed a spark from someone, and it came from super sub David Quinn. He came on after 52 minutes, and two minutes later he equalised. He headed home Nikola Colic’s lofted ball to make the game even. We carried on pushing for the rest of the game, and it was David Quinn that came up clutch for us again. He headed home Ludwig Englund’s cross in the 70th minute to turn the game on its head and secure us the 2-1 win..........................

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AND THAT 2-1 WIN HAS GIVEN US THE PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE!!!!!!!!!!! Chelsea dropped points away to Everton, which means we are the Champions of England! I still can’t fathom the fact that we have won the Premier League in such a short space of time. We had some excellent wins this season, particularly against the bigger sides in the league. This team is just getting better and better.

Up next is a Champions League semi final tie against Barcelona, and the first leg will be played at Portman Road.

Ipswich’s Luke McCowan and Reiss Nelson are doubts for today’s game against Barcelona as they look to take a lead to Spain for the second leg.

Barcelona may be without Marc Cucurella for today’s game through knee tendinitis, whilst Ansu Fati, Kai Havertz and Pedri are definitely out injured.

IPSWICH: (4–4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Solet, Antov, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Quinn, Bank, Tue, Osimhen.

BARCELONA: (4-2-3-1) Ter Stegan, Wague, Skriniar, Lenglet, Cucurella, Centurion, Barella, Janssen, Aouar, Dembele, Lopez. SUBS: Pallares, Todibo, Gil, Griezmann, Sandro, Mbuyamo, Kluivert.

Jesus Christ was a result. How on earth has that been pulled off. Jesus I love this team. It only took us a few minutes to open the scoring, as Nuno Mendes whipped the ball to the back post for Alexey Tkachuk to head home. The domination started early, but we had to wait until the second half to double our lead. It was Tkachuk again, a long range strike this time giving us the 2-0 lead. In the final minute of the game, Kemal Gul took the tie pretty much out of Barcelona’s reach as he flicked home Nuno Mendes’ throw in. What a victory.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Not many players stood out in this month, but Quinn was the player to get the title win for us. He’s been excellent and will only get better.

With the title confirmed, we can’t move anywhere. Still can’t believed we won the league so quickly, so now it will be interesting to see how each of the other teams do.

Incredible, incredible, incredible! Congratulations on winning the Carabao Cup, but most importantly the Premier League and absolutely dismantling Barcelona in that first-leg. Go and win the treble!
A monstrous transformation - the stuff of legends! Congratulations on becoming champions of England, but the European crown awaits.
Wow! Not much more than a massive congratulations on what you have done at Ipswich. March wasn't the best of months but yu still sat in pole position and with some big results in April its finally official. Brilliant stuff.

European glory is still on, and having that win over Barcelona, I think there's a very good chance we will have more to celebrate come the end of the season. Excellent job!

An excellent win with a rotated side. A few back ups chucked in still did the job for us. Star striker Dean Martin opened the scoring near the end of the first half, slotting home a Nuno Mendes cross from the left wing. It was 2 shortly after half time, as Christian Tue’s long range pass was smashed home by David Quinn to double our lead. The game was wrapped up 25 minutes later, as David Quinn capitalised on David Raya’s mistake at the back, rounded the keeper and literally walked the ball into the back of the net. Solid victory.

Man City have a fully fit side to choose from as they look to overcome the English champions and record a second trophy for the season.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Gunn, Konoplya, Antov, Bank, Mendes, Gul, Margeman, Colic, Andre, Quinn, Martin. SUBS: Ospina, Seppanen, Stevens, Tkachuk, Bradaric, Tue, Osimhen, Woolfenden, McCowan, Nelson, Dozzell, Downes.

A real shame to lose this final, but the absence of Oumar Solet really hit us hard in this game. He has been massive this season, and not having him available was a real detriment to our chances in the final. Oh well, guess it gives us something to fight for in next season.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So there we have it, our fourth season in the Premier League has ended, and somehow we have defied all expectations and won ourselves a Premier League crown, and emphatically at that!!! A brilliant season, so many of our kids stepped up and performed admirably. Next season will of course be as tough to retain our crown, but I’m excited to see what we can do. The next update will of course be the annual ‘End of Season Review’

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ScottT - thanks a lot man, much appreciated. I tried my best to win treble but the game screwed me with Gul and Solet.

Justice - champions of England is off the list, shame the Champions League is still their to capture. Gives us a key aim for next season.

TheLFCFan - thanks LFC, it’s been a proper adventure, and there is still more to come. I wished we could get that win over City, but their full first team took us down in the end.
Really tough luck. You'll be back though.
Unfortunate to lose to City but a magnificent achievement to even reach the final itself. A brilliant season overall and I look forward to seeing how you improve on it.

END OF SEASON REVIEW - 24/25

We have reached the end of the league season, and we have secured ourselves a place in the Champions League for the 2025/26 season by winning the god damn Premier League. Now that the 2024/25 season has come to a close, its time to look back across the world to see what’s being going on in our save this year.

So, that’s the round up of all the extra bits that have happened this season. I hope you have enjoyed reading my 2024/25 season with Ipswich Town, and let’s hope 2025/26 can be a belter as well. Our next update will be a look ahead to Pre Season, and any interesting things that happen between now and the 1st of July.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ScottT - back and stronger this time.

TheLFCFan - They were the better side on the day, we just need to be more clinical.

NEW DIGS?

We have just heard news from Marcus Evans himself, yes that is shocking, that plans have been put in place for a new Stadium to be built for Ipswich Town. There had been discussions taking place throughout the season between Marcus, George Burley and Lee O'Neill, about the need for a new stadium, and it looks like those plans have come to fruition. The building of the 'Sir Alf Ramsey Park' stadium will begin in the summer of 2025, and will be finished for the end of the 2027/28 season. The new ground will hold 50,875 people, an increase of 13,125 on their current Portman Road.

The plans have been submitted by Marcus for the new ground, and is a wonderful tribute to one of England's greatest managers. The stadium itself is transitioning from a square to a circle, accommodating the need for more fans. Sir Bobby Robson's name will still be engraved on one of the end's behind the goal, called the 'Sir Bobby Robson End.' Opposing the great man, with Alf Ramsey taking the name of the stadium, and with great honour we are proud to announce will be renamed 'The George Burley End.' A wonderful tribute to their current manager, who has taken them on a journey to the top. Either side of the two legends, replacing the 'Co-Operative Stand' is now going to be the 'The Waterfront Stand' as the stadium is being built closer to the Ipswich Waterfront in 2028. The final side will still be called 'The Cobbold Stand,' a name that has stood the test of time and has never been changed. Good luck to Ipswich with their new stadium, and hopefully in 3 years time they will still be on top of England.

I honestly can't believe it. Not just the fact that we are finally getting a new stadium after having 37,500 home fans at every single game for the last 2 years straight. An incredible run I might add. But to have the stadium be named after a true great of the English game in Alf Ramsey Park is a wonderful thing for Marcus to do. He called me into his office the day before he submitted the plans, to tell me about my own stand. I was in disbelief, that he was willing to name one of the key ends of the group after me. Marcus has always stuck by me in recent years, upgrading everything he can. To be seen on the same level as Bobby and Alf, with a stand named after me is magnificent. We are still only considering an 'icon' in game, but hopefully we can get that up close to being a 'legend' of the team by the time the new stadium is built.
Fantastic news and a very fitting commemoration to all those involved in some capacity.

June - 25/26

We begin our 7th season in the save, and once again we have made progress. Year 1, we won League One. Year 2, we won the Championship Play Offs, Year 3, we overachieved and finished 13th in the Prem. Year 4, we defied expectations and snatched 7th spot. Year 5, we changed the landscape of the game by finishing 3rd. Year 6 we went and won the bloody Premier League, so what could Year 7 have in store for us?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10/06/24

A new deal has been given to Nuno Mendes. He was one of the only players that had a low release clause, with a 26.5million release clause for clubs in the Champions League. Surprisingly no one came in for him, but I’m glad he’s agreed for another 3 years to stay.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13/06/24

I’m not entirely sure what is happening in this summer turn around. Apparently, according the game, we are in the Club World Championship for this summer, despite not winning the Champions League. Also, there hasn’t been a Club World Cup since 2021. Weird.

You may notice a lot of players missing from the list as well. We were only able to register 23 players, with no ability to play players who were under 20 like the Premier League. A few notably players unregistered: David Ospina (retiring), Jonas Bank (unneeded for tournament), Peter Jensen (trying to sell), Christian Tue (undecided on selling), Luke McCowan (trying to sell) and Victor Osimhen (undecided on selling).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16/06/24

They finished second last year, and Chelsea are looking to overthrow us in the Premier League race next season. They have just signed Vinicius Junior for £105mill from Real Madrid. Yowza.

We have also moved up from 69th place in the European Club Rankings, to now being in 33rd. Very weird considering we are the best team in England currently.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

17/06/24

So apparently this competition plays out through June, looks like we are going to have an interesting month of June for the first time. The group stage draw has been made for the competition, with has 8 European sides in the championship. Not sure how it is decided who gets in, but it looks like we are in against São Paulo and Zamalek for the group.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So because of this random competition that has been given to us for this summer, we might as well go through the two ‘new signings’ that were mentioned in the Club World Cup Registration section. I’m so confused right now during this update, because so much random stuff keeps happening for me to deal with. But let’s take a look at the two.

We were given a transfer budget of £150million, but with the new stadium being built, and being able to pay the whole deal without needing a loan, our finances dropped rapidly this season. The biggest signing of the June period, made in October, was a new striker. David Quinn, Alexey Tkachuk and Victor Osimhen all hit double figures for the season, but I still wasn’t fully comfortable with them all. Admittedly, this signing was made very early in the season before any of those 3 really got going. His name is Lautaro Ovando, a 22-year-old striker from São Paulo, signed for £9.25million. An excellent forward who is actually better than Dean Martin. He has current ability and potential ability.

The second signing made during the season is goalkeeper Juan Orofino, from Napoli for £8.75million. He was actually signed on September 4th, but I delayed it all the way until the summer so that Gunn could play all the games. We faced him in the Champions League, and now he is ours. He has current ability and potential ability.

Those are the two signings made that will feature in this Club World Championship. Here are there links:

Lautaro Ovando - ST
Juan Orofino - GK

19/06/25

Our first tie in the Club World Championship is away to São Paulo in Japan. Hopefully we can pick up the win and put ourselves in a great position for the next game.

São Paulo will be without Matheus Rossetto through a hernia injury, whilst Claudio D’Aniello is a doubt with a gashed upper leg.

Ipswich are without Grant Margeman and Craig Burgess through international duty, whilst Lautaro Ovando is a doubt with a broken jaw.

SAO PAULO: (4-4-2) Gustavo, Leonardo, Thaller, Henrique, Guilherme, Simon, Kraneviter, Lerman, Santos, Daniel, Petkovic. SUBS: Ivan, Inacio, Gabriel, Jaderson, D’Aniello, Jadermilson, Fred.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Orofino, Seppanen, Solet, Antov, Bradaric, Englund, Stevens, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Gunn, Mendes, Downes, Quinn, Konoplya, Dozzell, Nelson, Woolfenden, Ovando, Gul.

An excellent win to begin the campaign, a solid 5-0 win against São Paulo. Dean Martin stepped up with a hat trick, whilst Alexey Tkachuk notched two as well. Martin was the one to open the scoring, smashing home from a Ludwig Englund cross. We had to wait until the second half for our second, as Martin headed home from a Seppanen throw in. It was 3 shortly there after as Tkachuk headed home another Seppanen assist. The goal was out of reach in the 77th position as Dean Martin secured his hat trick after a long through ball from Dominic Stevens. The game was out to bed late on by Tkachuk, heading home an Andre Dozzell free kick to give us the 5-0 win.

Our second tie in the Club World Championship is ‘home’ to Zamalek in Japan. Hopefully we can pick up the win and put ourselves in a great position for the knockout rounds.

Ipswich are without Grant Margeman and Craig Burgess through international duty, whilst Lautaro Ovando is a doubt with a broken jaw.

Zamalek have four players away on international duty: Mostafa, Baher El Mohamady, Ahmed El Sayyad and Karin Mohamed.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Orofino, Konoplya, Solet, Woolfenden, Mendes, Dozzell, Downes, Gul, Nelson, Quinn, Martin. SUBS: Gunn, Seppanen, Englund, Tkachuk, Bradaric, Colic, Andre, Antov, Stevens, Ovando.

ZAMALEK: (4-2-1-2-1) El Sayad, Hegab, Farouk, Sawiris, Hamza, Hamed, Alaa, Mohamed, Samir, Ahadad, Bencharki. SUBS: Fahim, Saleh, Karbala, Ashour, Obama, Galal, Abou, Talaat.

Well that’s a lot of goals. Fantastic 11-0 win against the Egyptian champions. We had 57 shots in total in the game, my oh my were we good. It took us only 3 minutes to open the scoring as Flynn Downes connected with a Andre Dozzell corner to give us the lead. 1 minute later, Dean Martin made it 2. Reiss Nelson’s through ball towards the Scotsman put us into a commanding lead already. We had to wait 30 minutes for our third of the game, with Martin returning the favour as he supplied Reiss Nelson who smashed the ball home. Another minute past for Martin to get his second of the game, as he rounded the keeper and tucked home Downes’ through ball.

It was 5-0 just before half time as Reiss Nelson got his second of the game, flicking home Andre Dozzell’s pass to make the game out of reach before the half time whistle blew. With a minute to spare in the first, it was 6. This time is what David Quinn who supplied Dean Martin for his hat trick. With one second to spare, Dean Martin showed he isn’t just a poacher with a 25-yard free kick goal.

Another few minutes last and it was 8-0. Reiss Nelson’s cross field pass found Kemal Gul who headed home at the far post to put his name on the scoresheet. Flynn Downes turned the game into a 9-0 thrashing with 55 minutes on the clock, bending home a lose ball in the edge of the box to show that he can still hang in big games. The crowd chanted ‘we want 10, we want 10’ so we obliged. Another new goal scorer as Nicola Colic curled the ball home from 25 yards to turn this into a rout. We didn’t end there, as we found the time to score one more goal as David Quinn bundled the ball home under pressure.

28/06/25

Our quarter final tie in the Club World Championship is ‘home’ to Real Madrid in Japan. Hopefully we can pick up the win and put ourselves into the Semi Final.

Ipswich are without Grant Margeman and Craig Burgess through international duty, but Lautaro Ovando is back from injury.

Real Madrid have Eden Hazard, Isco and Mohamed Ihattaren unregistered for today’s Quarter Final tie.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Gunn, Seppanen, Woolfenden, Antov, Bradaric, Englund, Stevens, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Orofino, Mendes, Gul, Quinn, Konoplya, Dozzell, Nelson, Solet, Downes, Ovando.

REAL MADRID: (4-1-2-2-1) Courtois, Valery, De Vrij, Militao, Grimaldo, Dier, Milinkovic, Nascimento, Jesus, Lozano, Jovic. SUBS: Moreno, Botana, Roberto, Depay, Ceballos, Torres, Pedrinho, Hernaiz, Sanz, Odriozola.

A solid win for us against a very good Madrid side. Takes us into the Semi final of the Club World Championship. Gonna mess up the friendlies that the Director of Football organised for us. It was Alexey Tkachuk that scored our goal that sent us through, as he headed home Steffan Seppanen’s throw in just before half time.

30/06/24

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So that’s the end of the June update. So much random stuff happened in this month, a lot of unexpected games that were played. In July, we have the semi final and the rest of the friendlies.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ScottT - so happy about the new stadium, also loved making the blueprints as well :) Alf Ramsey deserves his own stadium.
I'm just as confused as you are by the somewhat strange tournament. It comes as no surprise that the European sides dominated though. Best of luck in the semi-finals.

I'm interested to see how this rather different pre-season impacts on early results in the Premier League.

You certainly have a very dangerous attack these days with the signing of Ovando. Even more so than before. Frightening stuff for the opposition!

July - 25/26

We begin the 2025/26 season as the best team in England, and hopefully we can end the season in the exact same way. The games are set out, the Club World Cup is in full flow, so let’s go and get ourselves some players.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TRANSFERS

01/07/24

So that's the transfers for the month of July, and as you can see we have only made 3 real first team signings. We do have another big money move, the biggest of the window in the pipeline for a midfielder, but we will have to see if that is confirmed in August. Here are the new signings.

Kurt Hercher - CB
Gholam Reza Haghdoust - LB
Youssouf Diomande - CM
Julian Roger - RW
Abou Bamba - CB
Martyn Jones - CM

The first game of the month sees us face Manchester City in the Club World Cup Semi Final, a repeat of the Champions League final from last year.

Man City are without Goncalo Ramos, Didier Ruiz, David Gronvald, Yannick Kappenberg and Adam Hlozek for today’s semi final tie with Ipswich.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Orofino, Seppanen, Solet, Antov, Bradaric, Gul, Stevens, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Gunn, Konoplya, Englund, Quinn, Burgess, Downes, Nelson, Woolfenden, Dozzell, Ovando, Mendes.

MAN CITY: (4-1-2-2-1) Ederson, Scholte, Ajer, Stones, Mendy, Neves, De Bruyne, Silva, Sterling, Chiesa, Cavaleiro. SUBS: Muric, Laporte, Szoboszlai, Foden, Sane, Alfonso, Maddison, Silva, Hudson-Odoi, Ashcroft, Trafford.

An excellent result and the perfect way to get revenge over Manchester City. A solid 4-0 win to show that we can be seen as one of the best sides in the world. Dean Martin carried on from where he left off in the group stage as he opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, capitalising on a Kevin De Bruyne mistake to place the ball last Ederson in the net. It was 2-0 a few minutes later, as Martin headed home a Steffan Seppanen cross to double our lead on the stroke off half time. The game was put out of reach in the second half as Dean Martin’s thunderous free kick cannoned off the bar and fell straight to Valentin Antov to pass home into an empty net. The cherry was placed on the cake in the 70th minute as Alexey Tkachuk headed home Andre’s flick on to give us a resounding 4-0 victory.

CLUB WORLD CUP FINAL

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEAM NEWS

06/07/25

The final of the wacky Club World Championship has arrived, as we face Barcelona at home in a repeat of the Champions League Semi Final ties last season.

Ipswich will be without Dominic Stevens through suspension, but Grant Margeman is back from international duty.

Barcelona will be without Nicola Barrella and Jose Manuel Lopez through injury, whilst Pedri is a doubt with a hip problem. Ferran is unregistered as well.

IPSWICH: (4-4-2) Orofino, Konoplya, Solet, Antov, Mendes, Gul, Downes, Colic, Andre, Tkachuk, Martin. SUBS: Gunn, Bradaric, Englund, Quinn, Seppanen, Dozzell, Nelson, Burgess, Woolfenden, Ovando.

BARCELONA: (4-2-3-1) ter Stegan, Gerard, Skriniar, Todibo, Lenglet, Centurion, Aouar, Dembele, Havertz, Fati, Janssen. SUBS: Pallares, Cucurella, Gil, Kluivert, Pedri, Serra, Esteve, Gascons, Perez, Julia, Mbuyamba, Asensio.

ANOTHER COMPETITION WON!!! An excellent win over a very good Barcelona side. The board wanted us to try and win the tournament, and we did just that. Dean Martin opened the scoring in the 30th minute from the penalty spot after Flynn Downes was fouled making a late burst into the box. It was 2-0 just after half time as Andre headed home Yukhym Konoplya’s throw in to give us a decent lead. It was comfortable until the final few minutes when Stan Janssen stabbed the ball home to make it 2-1, but we held on to win the game.

All in all a very productive pre season, especially that victory over a fully first team Barcelona side at the end of the month, plus the victory in the Club World Cup. Lots of goals. Seeing lots of different players impress throughout pre season has been good as well. The first month of the season has arrived, as we tackle Manchester City in the Community Shield and then we have a interesting tie to Bournemouth to start the season.
