An old face in a familiar place

Sorry for the lack of updates, everyone. I've been busy with some other things lately! The World Golden Ball voting has begun and I have quite an enviable dilemma on my hands. I have 5 players on that list and only 3 votes. Tied for second with 3 players listed are Barca, Juventus, Liverpool, and Man United. Here's a quick snapshot of my candidates.

We received our grouping today for the World Cup and I feel so-so about things. Our competitors (world ranking) will be Greece (30), Chile (10), and Egypt (33). I think that Chile will be our biggest competition for the top spot. That said, we can't afford to slip up against Greece or Egypt either.

Oh boy. What if we get a crappy chairman that wants to pinch pennies? I've had the luxury of having the majority of my winnings made available to me via transfer funds, facility upgrades, and player/staff salary. Then again, maybe we'll get a money bags chairman.

The first knockout round for the Champions Cup has been drawn and we get a familiar foe in Inter. We last saw Inter in the preseason when they joined us for the J3K Invitational. Prior to that, we played them in the semifinals of the 2022 Champions Cup and demolished them on aggregate 7-3.

The next domino has fallen in what looks to be a buyout of our longstanding chairman.

Glad to see your career is still going strong I can still remember the night a few months back when i ordered a dominoes pizza and sat down to watch a film only to end up reading this entire story all night, i even posted telling you haha!!! but on another note, i decided to finally start a new fresh career with the latest update. Started as unemployed with the English, Spanish and Italian countries playable. Applied for all available clubs with out managers and after a few days of waiting my replies came, only team that wanted an unknown manager with no previous experience or reputation.... NEWPORT COUNTY i happily accepted the job and told the board that promotion was on its way, i only hope i have even half the success you have had and i will be happy. Wish me luck

End of Year Awards - 2025

In a bit of a surprise, it was Marcel Hasselbaink that took home the World Golden Ball ahead of strike partner Caca. I didn't pick favorites in the media, but my money would have been on Caca to win. This marks two years in a row that Hasselbaink has won the award and he matches Caca with three of the awards overall.

Not to be outdone, Caca took home the World Player of the Year award, ahead of strike partner Hasselbaink. Caca has absolutely owned this award and this marks the fifth time he's won it in the past six seasons.

Once again our dynamic duo headline the World Team of the Year as the two starting strikers. They have done so for a staggering seven consecutive seasons, a streak that began in 2019.

Caca reclaims the European Striker of the Year award after Hasselbaink won it last season. This is the fourth time he has bagged the award.

James Jones pulls a bit of an upset in bringing home the European Midfielder of the Year award. This marks the first time that the award has been won by a Newport County player.

Looking through the January window - 2026

When you look at the awards list above you'd think that we were running away with the Premier League. In actuality, we aren't even the first place team right now!



Liverpool sits at the top of the table by 1 point and has been our equal in terms of goal differential. And while we have not lost any games so far, we have had some draws against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday (20th) and other mid table teams that isn't doing is any favors.

We don't currently have any big ticket transfers on the horizon but we will continue to monitor things. Injuries have robbed us of two starting players in Kenny Gage and Joe Broadhurst.





We have depth to handle things in the short term but I can't lie and say that we aren't looking for defensive reinforcements right now. When you're looking to play games until late May, however, you can never overstate the need for quality depth.

This can't be happening. Would the new ownership really show me the door? After everything I've helped accomplish at Newport? And would my assistant manager really be the one named my successor? The same assistant manager that I recruited 14 years ago to be my right hand man? Somebody pinch me. This must be some sort of nightmare.
